What is on YOUR bucket list?

Do you have a bucket list? You know, what you've always wanted to do/try? You all know one of mine was to skate the Rideau Canal in Ottawa.

So what is on yours, and do you have a timetable?

I'll go first:

Next on the list is to kayak around Manhattan. Almost did it last year, but my co-paddler got sick. Next fall for sure.

    Good thread!

Just off the top of my head would be to meet in person, as many forum friends as possible. I've got about a dozen under my belt so far and about a dozen more I've talked to on the phone but there are about a hundred more left to go!!

Next would be to do the city to shore bike run. They are in September and there are 3 courses to sign up for. I am sure I could do the shortest run right now but I would really like to do the longest run!! Almost 100 miles!!

    Cheers!

Gosh I dont have a bucket list at all!

Does that mean I'm not adventurous? I always admire others who do something so grand but I have no desire to swim, run, climb, jump or anything like that.

I just want to wake up every day and be happy. I dont have the need to do something big.

    Gosh I'm a bore!

What is on your 'true' Bucket List?

Thanks Gayle. I hope so too. I heard of people saying that although the place they grew up has not changed, things look different or smaller. I'm curious. Yes, growing up in different countries is interesting, especially when it comes to learn the languages. My toungue is trained at young age and that helped for me to learn English quickly. I was told that I speak English well and have little accent. During the 5 yrs that I lived in Italy, I completely forgot my native language. When I went back to Vietnam, I had to learn it all over again. 5 yrs. after, we all had to run to the US for refuge. Then, once again, I had to learn another language. I still speak Vietnamese in the family but completely forgotten Italian. Love traveling but due to the physical health deteororation from my disability, I no longer able to do it so easily. Can't complain much about it though, I am still moving around pretty good. That's such a blessing still =o)

Where do I start??? Every time you guys post a picture of a quilt, I want to do it as well! There are so many to choose from and such little time. I already have a carpenter's wheel quilt done from my dh. I just need to learn how to do stencils and feathers, so that one may sit for a while, LOL!! I have the muslin for a cathedral window quilt. I also have the fabric for a quilt that looks like a chess board, but need to work on my machine applique skills before I do the quilt. I'd love to do a log cabin quilt. The pattern I have uses a jelly roll, but haven't found the "right" fabric for it. I have so many patterns of ones I also want to do, but where is the time??? I'm determined to get my UFO's done before I start any more. My current project list is 5 quilts, so I think I have enough started for now. Robbi

Well, I just checked 3 things off my list: see Stonehenge and visit St. Andrews, Scotland - the Old Course - the birthplace of golf. And a month ago we paid off our mortgage. So I gotta come up with some more stuff!!! Let's see: how about RETIRE. Stay at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Have a hole-in-one. Visit Vancouver, Washington.

The question I think you asked is what is next on HER list? I would say making up for what she did. And your other question what is on YOUR bucket list? Getting things in order for when I leave this world, and plans for who gets what.

A bucket list doesn't have to include Mt Everest. Also on my bucket list is to compile a cookbook for my kids.

I thought I posted but it's not showing up.

I'd love to take a cross-country trip by car with DH. I love the feeling of the open road, a full tank of gas, great music and snacks! That's freedom!

Hmmmm....I used to have a lot of things I wanted to do, guess I'm getting old. Most of mine have to do with seeing places and travel.

Take a ride in a hot air balloon.

Stand in the sand in front of the pyramids in Egypt.

Dance briefly in a Broadway muscial.

Visit my favorite chianti winery in Italy.

    Take a cruise in Alaska.

Visit both Australia and New Zealand.

Vacation on Prince Edward Island, Canada

    Raise chickens for eggs.

I've been working on my bucket list for about 10 years, LOL!

Last fall I was able to cross several things off my list. One trip was to Conn. the week that is determined to be the changing of the leaves. You see, we don't have 4 seasons in South LA. I had been before but never in the fall for the leaf change. I couldn't beleive how beautiful it was. Pictures just don't do it. Ya gotta see it in real life.

I have many many other things on my bucket list so I need to get busy if I want to do half of them. The next thing I have planned is to go to Canada, British Columbia and Alaska.

    Fun thread!

    My bucket list:

    1.) Finish my second book, "Thunder on the Steppe";
    2.) Cross-country driving trip with DH including BC;
    3.) Pilot our boat on the Great American Circle Route;
    4.) Live in at least one more state (I was born under a wandering star.);
    5.) Travel to my ancestral village near Saratov, Russia. I'd walk around with Grandpa's hand-drawn map & my precious pictures to see if the old homestead is still standing, visit the Church & cemetery to pay respects to family that gave their lives under Lenin/Stalin so that grandpa & Dad could have a better life in America;
6.) If I was allowed, I'd love to take the Trans-Siberian Railroad to search out my second cousins somewhere around Vladivostok.

after that I'll climb *right* in the handbasket and wait for the beverage service.

    Great thread!

    Some of mine are:

Learn to play the violin. (yikes)
    Learn to play the harmonica.
Go for a long vacation and take the northwest and/or northeast route on Amtrak.
Grow a big enough garden that we can do without grocery store produce.
Learn how to can and preserve food.
Quit smoking forever!!! At which time my reward will be a kayak.
    Learn how to kayak.
Meals on Wheels - we don't have one here but if we ever do I intend to volunteer.

I used to say "write a book." Now it is just "write something and get it published."

See the redwoods and the Pacific Coast. Also the Grand Canyon and a whole bunch of other natural places I want to see, but the top one is the redwoods.

Learn Spanish. Travel somewhere they speak Spanish, like Costa Rica or Spain.

I am such a homebody...I love nothing more than having a day without outside obligations when I can stay in the comfort of my own surroundings and do whatever I please - try a new dinner recipe, read a good book.

We built a house we hope to retire to (someday..) on a lake last year. There, I can walk my dogs, hike a mountain and pick blueberries, kayak, fish, read on the dock and make a meal to eat in the sunroom while watching the sun set over the lake while having all my favorite and familiar things at my disposal. Finding the land and building it was a dream 32 years in the making, so it takes a lot to pry me away from that place. It essentially contains most of my list in one "bucket."

DS will be getting married soon in Copenhagen, so I want to travel there and see his new home.

I'd like to someday sit outside a Paris bistro and enjoy a light meal and a glass of wine. It would be an extra plus if I did so having achieved that comfortable sense of style that French women seem to have been born with, but that's probably stretching the dream out of the realm of reality...

Although they've come close - down to the last playoff game - my beloved UNH Wildcats have yet to win a national NCAA hockey championship. I'd love to be in the stands when (not "if") that happens!

If all goes according to plan, I will be holding my first grandchild in my arms in fewer than 3 weeks. God willing, my mother will be here to see her namesake born. I would like to have a really nice picture taken of of her, myself, my daughter, and her daughter.

I don't have a bucket list. I have traveled fairly extensively and seen most of the world I am interested in. I would still love to see Machu Pichu and Australia, although I would hate sitting on an airplane that long so I doubt it will happen. When I worked in travel and could go First Class for free it would have been do-able. Now I would never consider that type of travel in coach.

I'm with you Duane. Even 5 hours to Miami Int'l has me gritting my teeth and feeling claustrophobic. I just MUST win the lotto so I can fly first class or better yet charter a jet, LOL!

I don't have a list either. Things I want right now are to get to a level at ping pong where I can win more games and get another dog or two.

I have never compiled a bucket list, but now you have me thinking....(dangerous, I know).

I have traveled a lot and seen much more than I ever dreamed I would be fortunate enough to see. But I haven't seen it all and there's a lot of the world left.

I'd like to visit Scandinavia and Italy
I'd like to rent a private sailboat and tour the Greek Isles.

I want to become conversational (if not fluent) in French. I know enough to make me dangerous! LOL

I'd like to live somewhere besides Minnesota. As much as I adore my home state, it would be fun to live somewhere else for a while.

I'd like to meet Jimmy Buffet. The guy lives a dream life. And he seems so down to earth and ...well....cool.

I want to own a piece of waterfront property. I have actually been looking at some parcels in Wisconsin. They have the most beautiful rivers and lakes there. We do, too, but in MN our waterfront prices are off the charts.

I am sure ther are others, but this is a start.

    Linda

Hey Linda, maybe we should work on that Jimmy Buffet idea.. or there's Kid Rock, he has a summer home near me. Kid is like the younger generation Jimmy.... "wink"

Bucket List? Dunno, Jamaica sounds pretty good about now.

My main goal is to do some major remodeling.

    Fun thread!

    In no particular order:

    Go Foxchasing in Ireland
Go to a casino in Monaco
    Make Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Buy an island off the New England coast
    Finish Atlas Shrugged
    Learn Silversmithing
    Dive the Great Barrier Reef
    Sailing in Australia/NZ

There's probably a lot more... but that is what came to mind in my insomniac state.

I don't know. Many of mine are simple.

Travel, of course. Anywhere, but I can't do the looong airplane trip either.

Finish decorating, organizing and repairing my house.

Get my underarms firm (okay -- that ain't goin' to happen)

Know that my kids are happy secure and healthy for the future -- I'd die happy knowing that!

Lots of stuff but I can't think of them all now.

As far as actually accomplishing something, I would like to volunteer at the animal shelter. I know that sounds like "well then, just do it." I cry at every time I see Sarah McLaughlin's SPCA ad-heck, I'm crying now just typing this. My fear is that I would be depressed and/or become the old lady with 72 pets and/or hate people!

I have traveled quite a bit but only to Europe (13 countries), Mexico, and the US (47 states), been on the Queen Mary. I would trade a lot of those adventures for a walk on the Great Wall of China, visit the Pyramids, and Mt. Vesuvius.

I certainly wasn't thinking about a bucket list when I water skied (with the Ski Club) from Palm Beach to NY while in college. I wasn't afraid of skiing as I was a very good skier and I always wore a ski belt. The ski club assumed I could swim.

I can't swim because I am afraid of the water so I met that challenge and went to a 6-week class for Scuba diving. I took it a week at a time and promising that I would quite if I got too afraid. I earned certification after diving on a sunken ship in the Keys. Followed by diving into an extinct underwater volcano in the Pacific.

I have experienced an earthquake, been in a submerged submarine, para-sailed, and hot air ballooned.

Long plane rides - we traveled to Australia two years ago. I was SOOOO excited about the trip but absolutely dreading the plane ride.

You know what? It wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. I think because you get on and you simply KNOW it's going to be a long, long time, you're okay. I watched movies, I read books, I played Sudoku, I talked to my husband, I slept (a little, I'm not good at sleeping on planes). I wore a sweat suit so I was comfortable and I brought my own blanket, pillow, and neck support. It's bearable. Not fun, but bearable.

And because of that, I did get to go to Australia, I did get to dive on the Great Barrier Reef, I did see kangaroos in the wild, etc. It is so worth it!

Go for it, don't let the plane rides keep you from doing something you really want to do!

I had a list when I was 14, and at the top was to marry a Danish girl and move to Denmark. My father found the list and tried to convince me not to marry a foreigner. I guess he might be a bit xenophobic, but that wouldn't have stopped me. Eventually I decided that I could never survive the winters in Denmark. I chose Denmark because I thought the Scandinavian countries were the most civilized at the time, and I liked their governmental policies.

I think the next thing on my list is to visit the Costa Rican rain forest. I was hoping to do that either this year or next. I have several unfinished writings I want to complete, and the one I am currently working on is a comic book version of Maria Morevna and the Evil Sorcerer. It's been translated before, but I translated it from German and Russian versions which are more detailed than currently available English versions. Some of those were translated from French, and the French and English versions leave out the gory details of the German and Russian versions. Kevin is supposed to do the artwork for the book, and I am currently doing the storyboard for the comic book version. If we get it finished, we could propose that it be made into a movie. I expect the comic book to be about 50 pages, and so it's going to take a while.

I just realized that next week I am going to start one of my bucket list items...see a seldom produced, at least in LA, four part opera, Wagner's 'The Ring' cycle, second row center. We'll see the first two parts now, the next two in 2010, budgets willing. Unfortunately its being done by an artistic wacko (someone on OperaChic having fun with a production photo of the goddess Freia. Those are supposed to be apples. Yeah right).
