Remember My New Car?

DH got off work early and was going to do the grocery shopping. He went out to the car andÂ.it wouldnÂt start! NothingÂ.just click-click-click. I called the dealership and they came and towed the car. They also gave DH a ride home so he could come back to pick me up at 5:00. ItÂs not even a month old! I hope this isnÂt the start of other problems or perhaps itÂs just Monday.

Sounds like a dead battery or the starter. Everytime my car has made the click click sound it's been the battery. Hope that's it, otherwise I'd be nervous too!

Yep- I get the same sound when our battery died. Keeping fingers crossed that it was just a Monday thing.

You have inspired me. This is now my next project (after the bathroom is finished). I have always thought this piece was ratty looking but it served a purpose in our bedroom. The cat sleeps on top and the TV is there also. I also use it to keep my office papers. Thanks to you it will soon have a new look. I just checked it out a bit and noticed that the drawers are dovetailed but could not find a manufacture's name. Do you know who made yours?

Doesn't a valet key also work in the drivers side door, so they can get into the car. I thought they just didn't work in the inside compartments and the trunk. I've never had one. I hope you really like your new car. Just the fact that new cars get that much more milage should be a help to our economy. Would you buy a 2 year old car with 10 less mpg rather then spending more for that great milage? I would (if I had it LOL.)

eld, a few reactions to your comment. First, if you don't drive much in traffic or with stop and go conditions, it won't do much for you. Many people do drive in situations like that, especially those who commute to work in urban locations. Cars burn gas when idling so whatever is saved is more than nothing. It's low hanging fruit, the feature is cheap and will help and can't hurt. Second, it was developed in Europe, where auto engineers have been focused for years on wringing more performance and more efficiency out of engines. I have a few year old, not small German car with an engine that's maybe half the size of what was put in the same model a dozen years ago. It gets amazing mileage, in the high 20s in town and mid to high 30s on flat highways (at highway speeds). With a turbocharger, it's very fast and responsive at lower speeds. When I lived in Europe a few decades ago, I remember that when stopped for other than a short interval - a draw bridge, a level train crossing, a long signal- drivers turned off their engines. The start stop feature does that automatically for those who, like you and me, appreciate not having to think about it. It's not a big deal but I think it's a thoughtful one.

That happened to me also SamKaren. Just was a bunk battery. Not a problem since, and that was 4 years ago.

Haven't heard anything yet but if it is the battery then I want a new one. And I want to know why it died on me. Will keep you all posted.

Could be defective wiring/cable from the factory.
Wasn't tested enough by the original manufacturer or the car plant.

Not that it means much but I put over 177K miles on my Nissan Sentra and never had a big problem - nothing more expensive than a new starter which happened many, many miles into ownership of course. Once I had a warning light that they had trouble getting to stay off but there was never a performance issue attached to it and eventually they got it off (or the light burned out!)

Dealership just called and said the battery was completely drained. I told them that the only thing I noticed was a security light that kept blinking. They said the car is designed to do that so it is a mystery of what happened. At least it wasn't anything major and I am not being charged for the tow.

Problem with the alternator? What does their computer diagnosis tell them?

Watch out...you know it will happen again. Alternator or wiring is the best bet.

This happened to DH's minivan. Turned out he had left an interior light on and never even noticed. It came on when he fully adjusted the dial that makes the speedometer, etc. easier to see at night. I finally figured it out after the second time. Good thing we have AAA :-)
