I saw an article in the paper a while ago that said the fabric dept. and the craft dept. both would be reinstated. Guess they lost customers.

Now they are doing a mini remodel just to fit the fabric dept back in. The floors look horrible where they have to move all the shelving. It's about time they wised up!

Just left the local Walmart. I was wondering what all the shuffling of counters and merchandise was about. Maybe the "cloth store" is returning.

A friend laughs at me when I refer to material as "cloth."

They had a few spools of thread, but no white. Imagine that.

Yeah!!! I'm lucky in that one of the local Wm's never closed their fabric dept (there are probably 10 different WM's within about a half hour of my front door). I live at their fabric dept. and often get great little prints there for a dollar a yard. After Christmas last year, I bought yards and yards of clearance holiday fab. for under a dollar. Only problem is, the store opens at 7AM, but they don't seem to think people shop for fabric at that hour of the day--never anyone to cut the stuff for me. And I have to go at 7, because later in the day, the store gets a little dangerous--when all the people from the most dangerous city in the country head there to shop (there are no real stores in the entire city of Camden, NJ because they cannot stay in business due to shrinkage and violence)

The Walmart near my house hasn't brought back fabrics yet. Last week, I was in a Walmart 20 miles from home, and they had brought back the fabrics department. I was disappointed because most of the cottons were $5 a yard and up. I can get the same fabrics as cheap, if not cheaper, at Joann's, either on sale or with coupons. And Joann's has a better selection. I had hoped that Walmart would reinstate fabrics with prices comparable to what they had before. If they can't beat Joann's prices, I'll just go to Joann's where I can get the best selection of fabric and all other supplies.

About a year ago my 83yr old mother was working on a project and needed some supplies so off to wally world she went. Two and a half hours later she returned home (walmart is only 3/4 mile away) and she was livid. In fact, I don't recall the last time she was that mad about anything.

I asked her, "Whats the problem Mom, can I help?"

With that she flew off into a tyrade about the trained monkeys, misfits and absolute idiots they have working in the stores today.

Finally about an hour later Mother calmed down enough that we could hold a conversation and I asked what had set her off?

She says,,,I went to that damned wallyworld to get some yarn & some fabric for my project. After walking about 2 miles in circles around that store I finally stopped at the courtesy desk and asked, "Were is your YARD GOODS department?"

She says, "I then set off again, following the instructions to the letter and when I arrived at the what they call the Yard Goods Department, what did I find? Lawn mowers, rakes, shovels, weed wackers and ferilizer, although I think the best fertilizer they have is the BS they pass out at the courtesy desk!!!"

I said, "Well Mom, it could have been worse, you could have asked them where the "notions department is", I'll bet they would still be looking for that one.."

Yard goods. I love it!

For those who may not be old enough to know, Fabric is sold by the yard, so years ago the fabric department was known as the "Yardgoods Dept".

They wouldn't be bringing those back unless they thought they could turn a buck. They may have spotted a "hole" in the market in your area, maybe noting that local frabric stores were not serving that market well, or were expensive enough to permit a competitor to undercut them.

Want to take a guess where the cloth will come from - China, Veitnam, Bandladash?
