I meant die, not dye. Dye is used a lot in the medical field, especially since I specialize in diagnostics. Please excuse my typo :O) I suppose if I got a cutting for very little, I wouldn't mind giving it a whirl. I did root (my only rooting experience) a Kentiana, but I was forced into it and lets face it, there is no really rooting of a Kentiana. I did like Maid, just stuck in the soil like everyone here said to do. Another thing that bothers me is having the responsibility of killing it. Free or bought, I would feel bad for someone taking a cutting from their nice plant just for me to end up killing it. I suppose I need to get over this, huh... ~Tish~

Greg- I hear what you're saying. I had a golf outing Saturday afternoon and it was sunny and 77. Totally comfortable. That's the weather you guys get in the winter. A lot of northerners who only go to Florida in the winter have no conception of how hot it gets down there in the summer. Of course my palms all grow in the high 70s but when we get a stretch for even just 3 or 4 days when it hits the 90s they just explode. I try to imagine how fast they would grow down there. JL Florida- Any palms you would try to grow up here will need varying degrees of winter protection. Sabal Minor, Needls, Trachys. I would suggest ordering the book "Palms won't Grow here and other myths". It's very detailed and will help. It may be a little late in the summer to try. Half of our Michigan growing season is over.

About a year ago my 83yr old mother was working on a project and needed some supplies so off to wally world she went. Two and a half hours later she returned home (walmart is only 3/4 mile away) and she was livid. In fact, I don't recall the last time she was that mad about anything. I asked her, "Whats the problem Mom, can I help?" With that she flew off into a tyrade about the trained monkeys, misfits and absolute idiots they have working in the stores today. Finally about an hour later Mother calmed down enough that we could hold a conversation and I asked what had set her off? She says,,,I went to that damned wallyworld to get some yarn & some fabric for my project. After walking about 2 miles in circles around that store I finally stopped at the courtesy desk and asked, "Were is your YARD GOODS department?" She says, "I then set off again, following the instructions to the letter and when I arrived at the what they call the Yard Goods Department, what did I find? Lawn mowers, rakes, shovels, weed wackers and ferilizer, although I think the best fertilizer they have is the BS they pass out at the courtesy desk!!!" I said, "Well Mom, it could have been worse, you could have asked them where the "notions department is", I'll bet they would still be looking for that one.."
