Wonderful neighbor knocked on my door, yesterday, and said he had something for me.

Lookie!

He had two and gave me one.

It's a 3 stage Chef's Choice knife sharpener.

Hi! You poor thing, want to grow roses, eh? ;-)) You only want to cut off the blooms once it doesn't look good (what "doesn't look good" is up to you). Clip or snap off just below the bloom. Your new plants need all of the leaves they can get now, so no "hard pruning" for the rest of the season. No cutting off "old wood", no pruning down to the soil level (you'll never do this at all, unless the canes are totally black and dead). After blooming, you can fertilize. Fish emulsion would be good. You can try Espoma Rose-tone, but some of it won't break down in containers (I still use it anyway). Miracle Gro is OK too, but some people like to stay away from synthetic fertilizers (roses don't know the difference). Good luck!

Chalk it up to a learning experience. Some people say if the ground is not frozen, you can still plant outside. And, if it was dry in the store and dry when you got it home, it was already a goner. They need to be kept watered, and they need a lot of light. You can try to save it, but they are not an indoor plant. Always check on the overall condition of the plant before you leave the store. If you want to try again, then next spring (early May), go find one that is fresh and has been watered. Bring it home. Follow the directions in the "How to save" thread, and plant it outside. You'll have a nice plant.

kimbo 2008, It's not you! If you house is less than 15 yrs, I suspect that the house was sprayed. When spraying the walls, one normally will reroll the wall with a roller to even out the paint on the walls. (or) if the walls were rolled, the same problem can exist if the painter loaded up the roller, and didn't spread the paint evenly across the wall. In both cases, this can result in an uneaven or pock marked surface, or even runs in the paint. If this is the case, the wall needs to be lightly sanded, and the defective area will need to be "floated" with drywall compound, and then sanded! then prime area, and repaint! Good Luck!

You must be a good neighbor too for your neighbor to treat you this way. I know because my neighbors and I are the same way. We help and give each others quite often and freely. It's really nice because in time of crisis, such as in hurricanes, we all need each others :o)

Did they have their trip to Charleston, yet? You said something about a romantic carriage ride around that lovely city, and all I could think of was that a horse drawn carriage ride around Charleston in July is anything BUT romantic. ;-) Depending on the temperatures, they don't even allow the animals to be put on the streets much of the time.

Anyhoo, I know that you will miss him. I always had very good luck when I lived in apartments and remember some of my neighbors with great fondness.
