I don't need a TV. I'll just watch over sheilajoyce's shoulder. LOL Tonight we'll be recording Season 3 of "Luther" -- runs on BBC-America for four consecutive nights. Can't wait to see the character Alice again! The star is Idris Alba -- first known to us as the character Stringer Bell in "The Wire" (an all-time favorite series set in Baltimore). We're in and out of "Intelligence", a Canadian TV series set in Vancouver. We watch a lot of older programs on DVD's from our library. This one was made around the same time as "The Sopranos" and is equally riveting. "New Tricks" is another British series we enjoying -- must be in its' ninth season. (Retired detectives investigate cold cases.) We catch "Hawaii Five-O" for the scenery. (Known to us as the tropical cartoon.) Next up -- for this afternoon's Teatime Matinee -- is "Silks". The only network programs we watch are news and commentary -- mostly CNN and MSNBC -- and ABC for "Jeopardy" at 6 p.m. Saturdays. DH watches Da Bears (depending -- LOL).

I did read that Kyra was not going to be on The Closer anymore that the other lady Captain is going to be taking over her roll. That will really change things up, I like Kyra so much. Alan Bradley's Flavia De Luce mystery series are definitely engaging. Set in the English countryside after WWII, Flavia lives in a crumbling manor with her father and sisters. She has a keen interest in chemistry and her knowledge helps her solve crime cases. These books are more like charming gentle reads but also witty and sharp--Flavia is a girl, maybe 12 or so at the start of the series, which initially turned me off but once I read one, I was hooked. Rita Mae Brown sets hers in small town Virginia horse country; Mary "Harry" Haristeen is both farmer and postal employee and tackles the mysteries with the help of her dog and cat. These are not as "sweet" as they sound, and very character driven, but not graphic, either. Tess Monaghan, private detective, is written by Baltimore's own Laura Lippman and include lots of local flavor. Moving away from gentle, Becky Masterman's books, set in the Arizona desert, feature retired FBI agent Brigid Quinn, and Taylor Stevens' protagonist is Michael Munroe who is a female language savant mercenary/problem solver with a particular interest in human trafficking crimes. Definitely more intense--these women take no quarter.

Fun question! I didn't have an answer ready, so I had to turn to google: I've never seen this show, but this one appeals to me: I like the soft green on the cabinets, and I like the color in the curtains. The wooden counters also look homey and welcoming. I don't like the kitchen clutter. Can you ID this one? It's the Waltons' kitchen. Homey, welcoming simple, and love that big table (lovely wood tone on that table). The giant sink looks super-functional. The stove, not so much. I really like that last cabinet by the kitchen window: Two drawers, topped by a decorative spot. The Big Bang kitchen. It's small, but I like the light wood cabinets and the backsplash. And the winner for WORST TV kitchen has to be Paula Deen. It's so big that it's garish. She looks tiny next to that island. All those pans on the wall are clutter, and she has too many things going on: the big island, the copper on the hood, the brick fireplace -- too many stars. It's clearly expensive, but it looks cold and oversized to my eye. Comment on an above post: I also like Snow's kitchen from Once Upon A Time, but it would never work without the whole cottage-thing in the rest of her apartment. Drop that same kitchen into a different house, and it'd never work.
