We love the older shows.....NCIS (both of them), Criminal Minds, Castle, the Mentalist. I must admit, I haven't been watching Revenge this year. We'll catch up online. I saw a couple and it's gotten even more complicated, I have to pay attention! :(

We love, love Scandal and Nashville. We are also really into Mistresses. I wasn't too sure, with the pilot, but is it ever good now.

Oh I forgot all about the Client List with Jennifer Love Hewitt.

"Honestly, it makes me feel like he doesnt care about my feelings at all." Stepmom40, I think you're doing that to yourself... not to mention putting him in a really unfair position. It's going to ---if it hasn't already-- create needless conflict. There are so many excellent, simple, practical solutions that have been offered to you on this thread, and to not at least try them out suggests that on some level you WANT the conflict to continue. My guess is because one way or another you want to find out/establish firmly "who's the most important". Well, it doesn't work like that. Your relationship to DH, his relationship to his daughter, your relationship to your daughter, both of your relationships to your mothers, etc. can't all be put on a ranked list of importance. Or necessarily scheduled perfectly (although you can try to maybe establish a little more of a routine that works as well as possible for everyone). It's like JNM says: "Life isn't interrupted". If you married this guy and had babies with him, you'd be interrupted constantly. Or if he got in a car wreck and got paralyzed, it would certainly mess with the honeymoon period. Or if you both were dirt poor and had to work two jobs each. Or your mother got Alzheimer's and had to move in with you. You get the jist... You simply aren't going to be able ---even if you had the right--- to demand that others in the world limit their relationships with you & DH and adjust their schedules, needs and personalities to accomodate your need to have the perfect little set-up where all family and friends appear exactly when you want them to and disappear when you don't. You can't control the way the rest of the world works, but you do have options as to what YOU do. (For example, picking up the phone or not... or finding something to do with yourself for an hour.) It's evident that you and DH have different experiences of what "family" is, or even conversational styles and needs. He and his daughter obviously feel more attached to frequent contact (my hunch is if SD stopped calling, he'd start calling her a lot more... and vice-versa). Maybe you grew up in a family that used words (and the phone) sparingly, that didn't call all the time or didn't like to chit-chat over "nothing". In that case, I feel sorry for you! There's nothing more embracing and enjoyable than being able to just "hang out" (in person or on the phone) with a loved one (friend, family, or partner) without it always having to be "about something", or even "special time". I think this might be the core of your issue. You apparently aren't used to the idea that "down time" or regular everyday "nothing" is the glue that really matters in connections with people. I suspect it's why you're so anxious about SD calling and taking away too much of your "honeymoon" time together--- because you're afraid of what happens when the shiny, new "honeymoon" phase wears off ---which you fear is any day now--- and can't envision that you can have "special time" indefinitely... or with anyone else around. Going to the grocery store together can be "special time", raking the leaves or driving back from MIL's and laughing about what she said or simply sitting in the same room doing a crossword puzzle while DH has his hour-a-day of being a parent to his daughter, too, can be "special time". "Special time" is what you make it and bring to it, not what others supposedly take away from it. It isn't so much a matter of quantity but of attitude.

Hello Deb. The names bush or shrub relates to the way a rose develops during a growing season. They are usually pruned in the coldest time of the year by removing old and unproductive wood. The plant responds by regenerating itself the next growing season, including the production of 4 flushes of bloom, rarely but sometimes less, AND they can beccome huge plants. Genuine species roses that are shrubs, produce single blooms, and are once-flowering only. Old European shrub roses from depths of time also will bloom only once. In the Australian climate, there can be seen a "repeat" bloom on many so-called once-bloomers. All genuine climbers are once-flowering only. And this includes the group known as ramblers. These are the true climbers. Most of the others are sports of Moderns that have mutated to a climbing FORM, i.e. they behave as a rambler. One confusing group refuses to behave according to either of these two growth habits. They are the Noisettes, a diverse group of roses from various origins. The growth habits of climbers/ramblers is fundamentally the production of new canes AFTER flowering (early December here). These canes do not have blooming parts to the ends of the canes, but just grow and grow. This factor is the fundamental departure point for shrubs and climbers. Typically these canes are best constrained from blowing wildly about while they grow, are then pulled down from April on and positioned horizontally on a fence-like support to encourage production of flowering laterals the following Spring. There may be some residual blooming in Autumn. These plants are the typical climbing sports, and names are usually prefixed "Climbing" or Cl.", e.g. 'Cl.Papa Meilland'. The lax-limbed ramblers behave exactly the same way, blooming in Spring-early Summer, and then going into a frenzy of regeneration for example, (various hybrids of Banksias, Multifloras, Moschatas, Wichurianas, and Filipes). These are the plants we ought prune after blooming, if we can get close enough(!), to provide space for regrowth. Left to themselves, the plants will coppice, growing up and over themselves each season. These ramblers are not the plants to put on a fence, arch or pole, but better planted in the open to fend for themselves. The Spring display of course is stunnibg, but it is important to consider the foliage, to maintain beauty thereafter. If you want to use the small arches commonly available from the chains, you really ought consider the appropriateness of the roses you intend to grow there. Some of the Hybrid Musks that throw 6' to 8' canes can be considered, but these become heavy unless cleaned out regularly, else as I have described elsewhere, the rose will be wearing the arch for adornment. There is one rose undeniably suited for these smaller arches, and that is 'Renae'. Pliant, repeat flowering, and fragrant, but still must be cleaned out of old wood. Any repeat flowering rose ought be pruned in Winter, otherwise, after blooming...

Dear Sarah C. & Phyllis- Thanks for telling me I can rent "Doc Martin" on Netflix ! Here (New York City) the series only began last month -- PBS TV. So it's a whole NEW THING. I just love the setting! . . . Someday I want to buy a house (a *small* one -- ha-ha ! ) by the ocean (Canada or New England). . . . So besides this show being fun to watch for the story; it's fun to see the scenery and exterior/ interior of all those charming houses ! ! ! As for "afterglow" books -- Here are a few that did it for me : "The English Patient" - M. Oondatje "Emma" - J. Austen "I Capture the Castle" - D. Smith "Death Comes for the Archbishop" - Willa Cather "The Stories of Eva Luna" - I. Allende BTW: Last week when I sold some books at the Strand, what did I find on the shelf ? --- Both Connie Willis's books "Blackout" and the follow-up in hard cover. Both looked as if they'd never been read -- though they were used. (Price - $13 less the $10 they paid me = $3 !) Since I've never read one of her books, and I don't care for sci-fi, I only bought the first book. Because of the raves and story-line descriptions by so many here I've wanted to try this one. And they were the ONLY TWO BY HER on the shelf -- How about that for serendipity ?

I bought Ediths Darling & Violets Pride about 6 weeks ago, So far VP is a blooming machine with great fragrance. ED not as quick to repeat, only slightly fragrant. Both are in big pots and no diseases so far. Other roses in our yard are suffering black spot and mildew because of the drizzle. Bought Pretty Lady 2 days ago so not much to report except healthy looks.

Sometimes tune in to Storage Wars and Pawn Stars. Pawn Stars has so much profanity now, don't go there often.

We just finished up all the Fringe that was available on Netflix. That is, through season 4. I wonder why season 5 isn't on? It was an odd show, with lots of dropped points, but I LOVE Walter and Astrid. If they made a spin off with just those two, I'd watch it.
Anyway, we're gonna have to find a new series to watch, since the newest seasons of Walking Dead and Dr Who aren't on yet either.

I'll be looking here for suggestions

We love Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge and the old Brit com Keeping Up Appearances. We watch 0nce Upon aTime and Modern Family. We both love Cincinnati Reds baseball and I love Glee. That's about it. We drop cable when baseball is over.

Rarely watch any network evening shows(they are so vapid), except for Phillies Baseball broadcasts and the evening local news.

Watch the Today show in the morning, then switch between CNN and CNBC during the day.

Do watch Downtown Abbey(on netflix) and some other PBS shows.

I would love to come watch TV with some of you. My DH pretty much watches news and sports. He could care less about most of my shows and the crime ones aren't appropiate to watch with my kids, so I DVR them and watch by myself at night.

We started watching Food Network & HGTV because regular TV allows so much foul language, sex, violence etc. I have noticed that Rizzoli and Isles seems to be slipping in 2-3 curse words each episode now. Seems out of place for the show-doing it for shock value or to draw in more male viewers?

Sue-Va: "The Michael J. Fox Show" will start Sept. 26 on NBC. I thought the teaser ad was funny (about his Parkinson's shake, but trust me, it wasn't in a mean way). I guess he just adds the humor to make himself and others feel more relaxed with his illness. YouTube might have it.

I'm a sucker for the SyFy channel, haha.

I like and watch a lot of the shows others have listed, but don't watch faithfully. I watch very few shows on the regular channels, ABC, NBC, CBS. What I like about Blue Bloods and Duck Dynasty is they make family the most important thing. And I'm a big fan of dinner together as a family and saying grace.

Oh, and the one that cracks me up almost the entire time watching it is Wipeout. Those people take a beating.

Pammyfay, Yes, the promo was a good one. The text on the screen was fuzzy to me and I didn't want to miss the show. I have it on my calendar now. He has a lot of courage, and is an inspiration to others dealing with similar situations.

I have never heard of Rizzoli and Isles. I love mystery novels.....James Patterson, the late Robert S. Parker, the late Sidney Sheldon, are my favourite authors. I also love Stuart Woods, David Baldacci, and some others who escaping me. Who's the woman who writes the Scarpetta books?

A few of you mentioned it, and Kittymom explained it. And also suggested King and Maxwell. I'm going to look into them.

jasdip, Patricia Cornwell writes the Scarpetta books. Her books were great at first, but they have gone downhill, IMO. You listed some of my very favorite authors--if you like them, you might also try Michael Palmer, Jeffrey Archer and Robin Cook.

In all the years I've seen Jeffrey Archer and Robin Cook's books, I have never read them. You've encouraged me to do so!

For humour in detective series, I love the number series by Janet Evanovich!

Wow, do we ever like Rizzoli and Isles!!! We started watching it this weekend......started with the Pilot. So we're 4 years behind you all, but thanks so much for the recommendation!!!!

Just a quick update.

Last nite we started watching Suits. Wow, if you like The Good Wife, you'll like Suits as well.

So another great show, on our list, thanks to the KT!!
Because of you, we're hooked on Scandal, and Rizzoli and Isles.

OH we LOVE Suits! they are so good looking too. Interesting factoid, Donna and Specter are long time friends(20+ years) both are married to other people and have children but during the filming they lived together in the same house. You can tell they are close the way the interact.
Harvey=Gabriel's wife was on the Real World London.

It is a great show. Last episode was a real "killer"!! Harvey kicked some a$$.

Rizzoli and Isles is also a fav and it is very hard to watch it now that Frost has committed suicide and will no longer be on he was such a pivotal character.
King and Maxwell for a brand new show was terrific.

Graceland has held our attention but not as strongly.
Longmire we do like a lot as one of the new shows.

I heard big bang theory has been taken by another network so will be changing. I love it hope it keeps on being great.

The new episodes of Big Bang Theory will continue as usual on CBS. The new season will begin on September 26. The show got a LONG renewal contract a year or so ago. Re-runs in syndication in my area are actually on two different (additional) networks.

I've been watching a couple of the network Fall Previews of their new shows and, sorry to say...not seeing anything I am looking forward to yet. It seems like we watch mostly CBS and their preview will be on in a couple weeks. I'd LOVE to see a new show or two that I like.

Maybe it's me, though. I used to love Little Couple and didn't care for it very much the last few weeks. Maybe I just don't like shows with kids.

I don't need a TV. I'll just watch over sheilajoyce's shoulder. LOL

Tonight we'll be recording Season 3 of "Luther" -- runs on BBC-America for four consecutive nights. Can't wait to see the character Alice again! The star is Idris Alba -- first known to us as the character Stringer Bell in "The Wire" (an all-time favorite series set in Baltimore).

We're in and out of "Intelligence", a Canadian TV series set in Vancouver. We watch a lot of older programs on DVD's from our library. This one was made around the same time as "The Sopranos" and is equally riveting.

"New Tricks" is another British series we enjoying -- must be in its' ninth season. (Retired detectives investigate cold cases.)

We catch "Hawaii Five-O" for the scenery. (Known to us as the tropical cartoon.)

Next up -- for this afternoon's Teatime Matinee -- is "Silks".

The only network programs we watch are news and commentary -- mostly CNN and MSNBC -- and ABC for "Jeopardy" at 6 p.m. Saturdays.

DH watches Da Bears (depending -- LOL).
