We love the older shows.....NCIS (both of them), Criminal Minds, Castle, the Mentalist. I must admit, I haven't been watching Revenge this year. We'll catch up online. I saw a couple and it's gotten even more complicated, I have to pay attention! :(

We love, love Scandal and Nashville. We are also really into Mistresses. I wasn't too sure, with the pilot, but is it ever good now.

Oh I forgot all about the Client List with Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Estellecm, If I have my math right, your DH was probably 20-21 years old when his oldest son was born. I am assuming that his deceased wife was that boy's mother, along with the younger two boys. One could assume that he met his first wife when he was maybe 18 or 19 years old --- not much older than his oldest son is now. His wife died VERY suddenly, during an event that should have been full of nothing but joy, the birth of his third child. He was unexpectedly left a widower with three children...a newborn and another child, not yet a toddler. His oldest son could not have been much older than the middle son is now. This is a lot for one person to handle. I suspect your DH was so busy trying to care for his boys, he may not have had the time or opportunity to grieve for the loss of his wife. He is telling you as much when he says "You don't know what I went through." What time of year did she die? When is the youngest son's birthday? I cannot imagine what that must be like for him...on the one hand, you would want to celebrate the birth of your baby; on the other hand, it would also mark the anniversary of the death of your wife. This cannot be easy for him. He may feel some responsibility for her death, irrational as that may be...if he hadn't gotten her pregnant, she wouldn't have gone through labor, she wouldn't have hemorrhaged, and she'd still be alive. Posttraumatic Stress is called "post" for a reason; someone can be symptom free for a very long time before something in the environment triggers recall of the trauma; you wrote you will try to talk to him like civilized adults and then "the tears appear." The first criteria in considering a diagnosis of PTSD is "the person experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others." Another symptom of PTSD is "irritability or outbursts of anger." Another symptom of PTSD is a "sense of a foreshortened future." Why discipline your kids if life is short? What is the harm in letting your kids watch movies rated for 16 year olds? None of us is going to live forever, afterall. His wife bled to death during childbirth. I do not know if your husband ever sought out professional help (or even a support group) following his wife's death. He was probably in shock, functioning just enough to provide minimal care for himself and his children; he may have been too busy just trying to survive. Now may be the time for him to explore what the impact of the death of his wife has been. At some level, he has to re-live the trauma of her death every year at his baby boy's birthday. For the sake of his children, his marriage and his own, I hope he will put his big boy panties on and go get help in learning more healthy ways to regulate his emotions. I hope you can help him in this healing process.

Dear Sarah C. & Phyllis- Thanks for telling me I can rent "Doc Martin" on Netflix ! Here (New York City) the series only began last month -- PBS TV. So it's a whole NEW THING. I just love the setting! . . . Someday I want to buy a house (a *small* one -- ha-ha ! ) by the ocean (Canada or New England). . . . So besides this show being fun to watch for the story; it's fun to see the scenery and exterior/ interior of all those charming houses ! ! ! As for "afterglow" books -- Here are a few that did it for me : "The English Patient" - M. Oondatje "Emma" - J. Austen "I Capture the Castle" - D. Smith "Death Comes for the Archbishop" - Willa Cather "The Stories of Eva Luna" - I. Allende BTW: Last week when I sold some books at the Strand, what did I find on the shelf ? --- Both Connie Willis's books "Blackout" and the follow-up in hard cover. Both looked as if they'd never been read -- though they were used. (Price - $13 less the $10 they paid me = $3 !) Since I've never read one of her books, and I don't care for sci-fi, I only bought the first book. Because of the raves and story-line descriptions by so many here I've wanted to try this one. And they were the ONLY TWO BY HER on the shelf -- How about that for serendipity ?

I just re-watched TiMER, which is set in a future in which you can get an implant that will count down until the moment when you meet the one person you are meant to be with. But it only works if your "one" also has a timer. Oona is about to turn 30 and is getting increasingly desperate because her timer hasn't started counting down yet. Her sister is floundering because her timer did go off--but she won't meet her "one" for another 13 years. The technology is more fantasy than science, but it makes for an interesting backdrop to look at people's reactions to knowing/not knowing/wanting to know/not wanting to know.

The REAL Crime shows, such as those on HLN. Although I've had it now with Jane Velez Mitchell and Dr. Drew because they don't/won't control their guests and they all talk at the same time.
Sometimes tune in to Storage Wars and Pawn Stars. Pawn Stars has so much profanity now, don't go there often.

We just finished up all the Fringe that was available on Netflix. That is, through season 4. I wonder why season 5 isn't on? It was an odd show, with lots of dropped points, but I LOVE Walter and Astrid. If they made a spin off with just those two, I'd watch it.
Anyway, we're gonna have to find a new series to watch, since the newest seasons of Walking Dead and Dr Who aren't on yet either.

I'll be looking here for suggestions

We love Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge and the old Brit com Keeping Up Appearances. We watch 0nce Upon aTime and Modern Family. We both love Cincinnati Reds baseball and I love Glee. That's about it. We drop cable when baseball is over.

Rarely watch any network evening shows(they are so vapid), except for Phillies Baseball broadcasts and the evening local news.

Watch the Today show in the morning, then switch between CNN and CNBC during the day.

Do watch Downtown Abbey(on netflix) and some other PBS shows.

I would love to come watch TV with some of you. My DH pretty much watches news and sports. He could care less about most of my shows and the crime ones aren't appropiate to watch with my kids, so I DVR them and watch by myself at night.

We started watching Food Network & HGTV because regular TV allows so much foul language, sex, violence etc. I have noticed that Rizzoli and Isles seems to be slipping in 2-3 curse words each episode now. Seems out of place for the show-doing it for shock value or to draw in more male viewers?

Sue-Va: "The Michael J. Fox Show" will start Sept. 26 on NBC. I thought the teaser ad was funny (about his Parkinson's shake, but trust me, it wasn't in a mean way). I guess he just adds the humor to make himself and others feel more relaxed with his illness. YouTube might have it.

I'm a sucker for the SyFy channel, haha.

I like and watch a lot of the shows others have listed, but don't watch faithfully. I watch very few shows on the regular channels, ABC, NBC, CBS. What I like about Blue Bloods and Duck Dynasty is they make family the most important thing. And I'm a big fan of dinner together as a family and saying grace.

Oh, and the one that cracks me up almost the entire time watching it is Wipeout. Those people take a beating.

Pammyfay, Yes, the promo was a good one. The text on the screen was fuzzy to me and I didn't want to miss the show. I have it on my calendar now. He has a lot of courage, and is an inspiration to others dealing with similar situations.

I have never heard of Rizzoli and Isles. I love mystery novels.....James Patterson, the late Robert S. Parker, the late Sidney Sheldon, are my favourite authors. I also love Stuart Woods, David Baldacci, and some others who escaping me. Who's the woman who writes the Scarpetta books?

A few of you mentioned it, and Kittymom explained it. And also suggested King and Maxwell. I'm going to look into them.

jasdip, Patricia Cornwell writes the Scarpetta books. Her books were great at first, but they have gone downhill, IMO. You listed some of my very favorite authors--if you like them, you might also try Michael Palmer, Jeffrey Archer and Robin Cook.

In all the years I've seen Jeffrey Archer and Robin Cook's books, I have never read them. You've encouraged me to do so!

For humour in detective series, I love the number series by Janet Evanovich!

Just a quick update.

Last nite we started watching Suits. Wow, if you like The Good Wife, you'll like Suits as well.

So another great show, on our list, thanks to the KT!!
Because of you, we're hooked on Scandal, and Rizzoli and Isles.

OH we LOVE Suits! they are so good looking too. Interesting factoid, Donna and Specter are long time friends(20+ years) both are married to other people and have children but during the filming they lived together in the same house. You can tell they are close the way the interact.
Harvey=Gabriel's wife was on the Real World London.

It is a great show. Last episode was a real "killer"!! Harvey kicked some a$$.

Rizzoli and Isles is also a fav and it is very hard to watch it now that Frost has committed suicide and will no longer be on he was such a pivotal character.
King and Maxwell for a brand new show was terrific.

Graceland has held our attention but not as strongly.
Longmire we do like a lot as one of the new shows.

I heard big bang theory has been taken by another network so will be changing. I love it hope it keeps on being great.

The new episodes of Big Bang Theory will continue as usual on CBS. The new season will begin on September 26. The show got a LONG renewal contract a year or so ago. Re-runs in syndication in my area are actually on two different (additional) networks.

I've been watching a couple of the network Fall Previews of their new shows and, sorry to say...not seeing anything I am looking forward to yet. It seems like we watch mostly CBS and their preview will be on in a couple weeks. I'd LOVE to see a new show or two that I like.

Maybe it's me, though. I used to love Little Couple and didn't care for it very much the last few weeks. Maybe I just don't like shows with kids.

I don't need a TV. I'll just watch over sheilajoyce's shoulder. LOL

Tonight we'll be recording Season 3 of "Luther" -- runs on BBC-America for four consecutive nights. Can't wait to see the character Alice again! The star is Idris Alba -- first known to us as the character Stringer Bell in "The Wire" (an all-time favorite series set in Baltimore).

We're in and out of "Intelligence", a Canadian TV series set in Vancouver. We watch a lot of older programs on DVD's from our library. This one was made around the same time as "The Sopranos" and is equally riveting.

"New Tricks" is another British series we enjoying -- must be in its' ninth season. (Retired detectives investigate cold cases.)

We catch "Hawaii Five-O" for the scenery. (Known to us as the tropical cartoon.)

Next up -- for this afternoon's Teatime Matinee -- is "Silks".

The only network programs we watch are news and commentary -- mostly CNN and MSNBC -- and ABC for "Jeopardy" at 6 p.m. Saturdays.

DH watches Da Bears (depending -- LOL).
