Definitely a scammer!! Ignore them.

They'll then send you a money order for more $$ and want you to reimburse them. Oldest scam in the book.

I "second" pudgeder. It is a scam. Give a price when you list (or re-list/modify your listing) and say "cash only."

Please report it to Craigslist administration right away!

Money Order = Scam

I agree is sounds suspicious, but why would money order = scam?

Every time I have dealt with Craigslist weirdos come out. I don't trust them.

It's a common scam. The seller thinks he will make extra money, but when the money order is found to be a fraud (usually weeks after it is cashed), the item for sale has already been picked up and the seller is now out his item plus whatever amount the money order was for.

Or they bring too much in the check or money order, get the overage back from you in cash or your check, and then later you find their MO or check was not good and they have your AC.

I know I'm naive but how do people THINK of these things??? If they would put this much effort and intelligence into a legal business, I wonder how far they would go. Guess its easier (and more fun) to be crooked.

I no longer go anywhere near Craigs list. Nothing but scammers. Do not answer them.

There are lots of phoney money orders out there. One of the known "scams" is someone will (for example) buy an item from you for $20 but pay with a $100 money order. So they get your item and get YOU to give them the balance in cash- $80. I only use CL to give stuff away. If I were you, I'd re-list the item as cash only, pick up only. The first person who brings the money gets it.

I am probably going to list an item on CL soon for probably $500 or so. I will list it as "cash only".

So... I have a question.... Are there such scams using fake money that is a pretty good counterfeit? How does one know that the $100, $50, or even $20 bills are not fake?? Does anyone have any tips for accepting cash & avoiding counterfeit bills?

Go to a business supply store and buy a counterfit pen. Also, look for the security strip in the bills by holding them up to the light.

You can always meet the buyer at your bank and ask the teller to check the bills, while you and the buyer are right there.

Chances are if you had done a google search on a phrase or sentence from the email, several search results would have shown that it was a craigslist scammer.

Whenever anyone sends me an email that makes some outrageous claim, (you know the ones), I just google a phrase or sentence and the results brings up Snopes and Urban Legends, among others. Google knows....
