I think this movie about Julia Childs would be hilarious. Meryl Streep is a perfect fit! Even hubs thinks it would be a good one. We'll put it on our list of DVD's when it comes out to rent for sure.

OMG--DH and I have never been to a movie together (married over 27 years). I would just love to see that movie. Meryl Streep has Julia's voice down pat! (I love Julia Child.)

I agree; I rarely am intrigued by movie ads, but this does seem like one I would love.

Hi mzstitch--Thank you for your nice compliment about Julia. I have two of them, and I think I got them in 2006-7 whichever was the year they came out. They are grafted roses, and seem to just grow rounded and need little pruning, so they are about as wide as tanks! One Julia is about a foot shorter than the other, though. I think JC is a wonderful rose which always looks good. You can't believe the windstorms that we had, day after day, a few weeks ago (luckily the photos were taken about two days before the first one). After each storm, I would run outside and shove those big girls' canes up, and they would pop up with no breakage, looking good as ever. What a rose. I ordered the first two seasons of the French Chef DVDs when I saw this thread, but I ordered them from a private seller in California for $29 (including shipping) for both sets of (3) DVDs and received them in two days. We have Amazon Prime, but it was much cheaper to order from an individual seller, and they did not charge extra for tax. The inside cover shows a picture of men crouching behind Julia to catch what she throws off the counter, which looks like it would otherwise go onto the floor. The first pancake that she made broke in half and landed mostly on the stove, but she scraped it up and put it back into the pan. Kevin thinks the shows are very humorous, possibly because they are so dated by now. Interesting to be reminded how primitive things were back in the 1960s. I love the way she speaks French - which sounds completely authentic to me, unlike many American chefs who cannot even pronounce "vinaigrette". Lars

Well, Marlorena, I hope you enjoy your Julia, aka Ab Fab (a terrible name, I agree), and share a few photos with us in the future. I love that rose and don't care if everyone in the world owns one (or two). Rarity doesn't necessarily mean something is excellent. Currently I'm in love with Roberto (Roberto Capucci), which makes it sound like I'm having an affair with a sexy young Italian (at my age, no less). I don't have Roberto yet, but I'm going to acquire him this spring, I hope. Heheh. SoFlo, your many Dames sound like my Princess Alexandra of Kent, a rose of many faces and colors. Just like Dames, she can be salmon pink, or a cooler pink, and even a bright coral when it's hottest. Sometimes blooms are large, but when it's hot they are smaller with fewer leaves, and stamens that often show. Currently she is reverting to her spring beauty because the heat is moderating. But at different times in the growing season, one might think she's an entirely different rose than at another point in the season. Diane

I really want to see this movie too. And I am not normally a Meryl Streep fan. But from the previews, she does have Julia's voice down pat.

That looks like a great show! (It is Julie & Julia, btw)

DH & I go to the movies together quite often - but we have a $2 theater in our little town. I bet Julie & Julia will come to our theatre - that is just the kind of movies that they show.
