Thanks guys! ttodd - the bed did not come with the bird - I bought it at the North Penn craft show a few years ago - it is a concrete lamp finial. I never found a lamp that suited it, so I stuck it on the bedpost. Last year, it was bugging me that I only had 1 bird, so I tracked down the artist (he no longer exhibits at North Penn) and bought 3 more to match. So now I have birds on all 4 posts. Some days I like them, some days I think they look stupid, but I'm too lazy to move them so there they stay, LOL! movinginVA - our house is actually pretty big (3K sq ft) but our bedroom is pretty small - it's 11 x 14. I actually prefer it as it means our other bedrooms are a decent size -- so many of the homes we looked at had enormous master bedrooms and then teeny tiny kids' bedrooms - it was kind of crazy! Anyhow, we do a walk-in closet but it is kind of small as well at maybe 6x8 feet (though, coming from a 200 year old house where the only closet was about 1ft x 2ft, our "small" walkin is like paradise, LOL!) But we definitely can't fit all our clothes in the closet, so we use both dressers by the bed, as well as another big dresser and the chest at the end of the bed. I recently bought an armoire for the other corner of the room and while I'm a little concerned that the room now looks kind of heavy with 5 big "case pieces" in there, I decided I'd rather have the storage than, say, a chair or something in the corner instead. But I've been needing to change the curtains (they're now being crowded by the armoire) so I've been wanting to post pics of my room and ask advice for a couple months now. Your question is the kick in the pants I needed - I'll try to take some tomorrow. But in the meantime, here's a description - our bed is queen size, the dressers on either side of the bed are about 30" wide and that makes up the 11ft wall. The chest at the end of the bed is a huge blanket chest - basically as wide as the bed and probably close to 3 feet deep. I love it. The wall to the left if you are laying in the bed is basically all windows and the wall to the right is a doorway to the hall where the closet and bathroom are, so there is pretty much nothing on those walls. Then the wall opposite the bed has a window in the center (with a dog crate under it - ugh!), a large empire-style antique dresser (about 4.5 feet high) to the left of the window and the new antique armoire to the right. So again, two big hulking case pieces that combined provide a ton of storage (but probably do crowd the room a bit.) I will try to take pics tomorrow and post them, since I did want to get some advice from the folks here on window treatments. But thanks for asking!

I hate to be such a pain in the butt, but :) I am becoming more and more indecisive as I get older. Here is another mock up. This one is 29 1/2" and 34" long. The top is a little off balance as I did the length with books, game boards and table leaves. The picture frame on the end represents a mock up of a table top perfume cabinet we're currently making (the tables are the next project) The perfume cabinet is going to be approximately 10" wide x 15" high x 7 1/2 deep. I was originally going to make it 9 x 13 x 7", but the mock-up showed me that I could go bigger. Now here's my question, why does this table look so big. It is actually almost the same size as Mona's tables, a little smaller actually, but to me they look so big. I tried taking a photo from looking down on the table, more like Mona's photo and it still looks big. When we make the tables, we'll make the tops more level than the mock up :))) I hope.... A further away shot. 34" long, why does it look so long? Is it because I am use to looking at our 20 x 20 by only 22"high end tables? Thanks for all your help.

Yes the south is known for their mopheads! I responded to your other thread re: hydrangeas. I'm zone 6B and I have a few micro climates that are probably about zone 7 so I can get away w/ growing some types of roses that typically don't do too well in our climate. My back hedge of Nikko blue hydrangea was in a lightly shaded area until my giant Blue Atlas Cedar came down this past Fall. Now my Nikkos's are in blazing sunlight. I have a heavy clay soil and I only water them occasionally when I see that they are getting very, very droopy typically in a heatwave. Then I'll get out the soaker hose and put it on for a few hrs. a day a few days in a row. I don't feed them but I do heavily amend the soil w/ iron to get a bluer shade. Our soil is very, very rich as I understand the original owner was a die-hard gardener. Since the cedar came down there isn't a bed of needles around the base of the hydrangea anymore & that used to help me get a better shade of blue. This yr. though one suffered an iron deficiency that was pretty easy for me to correct. Other than that I'm pretty much hands off w/ my hydrangea. This yr. some of them really took off size wise all of a sudden and I thought that it wasn't going to be a good yr. for them but my Nikko's are still flowering better than my 2 different versions of everblooming hydrangeas that are in my side beds. The Nikko blue row is at least 7yrs old but I plant at least 2 new hydrangea somewhere every yr. My in-laws just gave me an oak leaf hydrangea for my birthday last night for my white garden. I've never planted an oak leaf before so I'm looking forward to that. I'll have a bank of those surrounding the bistro area of our patio.

oceanna, Two words: reciprocating saw. :-) Move as much as you can into another room, cover everything else with dropcloths and/or old sheets, and have at it. We've had to take furniture out in pieces a few times. About 10 years ago we had an enormously-heavy sleeper loveseat from the 60s that DH and his two brothers somehow bent the space-time continuum to get up into our third-floor apartment (top floor of a mid-1800s three-flat), but there was NO way it was getting back down. We disassembled it with a crowbar and hammer and hucked the pieces out the window, which really confused the downstairs neighbors. :-) It was a pity that we had to render it unusable for someone else when I would rather have put it out on the curb as we lived in a very poor neighborhood and it would have been snatched up in a matter of minutes even in its worn-out state, but it had become pretty much unusable for us too and the apartment was far too small to blow that much space on something that couldn't be used - the living room was just barely big enough for one full-size futon couch (moved in and out disassembled), one chair, and a tv stand! That was it! Anyway, if you detach the plywood-box section from the headboard (and footboard if there is one), it is more likely that the headboard(/footboard) could be removed intact and reusable - if you post them on Craigslist, just specify that they are extremely heavy so people should be prepared to bring along help. Cut the plywood into smaller sections that can be moved, although a circular saw would probably be easier for that part. If you/your son aren't up to doing this yourself, hiring a handyman (through Craigslist? heehee) to do the cutting-up and lugging shouldn't be too awfully expensive especially if you don't go through one of those dreadful overpriced franchises. You'll have some cleaning to do in the bedroom but it's better than being stuck with furniture items you no longer like and cannot get rid of. I do know what you mean, BTW. Two houses ago we had a very large master bedroom (or at least very large to me, small compared to some folks'!) and purchased secondhand a 6 piece bedroom set, all pretty large pieces, which fit the room quite nicely. I got quite bored with the matchy-matchy thing and when we moved it did not fit at all into the new house's smaller bedrooms and couldn't really be divided up between rooms. A Craigslister got a nice bargain, since we just needed to get rid of these things that were crowding us out.
