What's On Your Bedside Table & Walls?
Comments (44)Yes the south is known for their mopheads! I responded to your other thread re: hydrangeas. I'm zone 6B and I have a few micro climates that are probably about zone 7 so I can get away w/ growing some types of roses that typically don't do too well in our climate. My back hedge of Nikko blue hydrangea was in a lightly shaded area until my giant Blue Atlas Cedar came down this past Fall. Now my Nikkos's are in blazing sunlight. I have a heavy clay soil and I only water them occasionally when I see that they are getting very, very droopy typically in a heatwave. Then I'll get out the soaker hose and put it on for a few hrs. a day a few days in a row. I don't feed them but I do heavily amend the soil w/ iron to get a bluer shade. Our soil is very, very rich as I understand the original owner was a die-hard gardener. Since the cedar came down there isn't a bed of needles around the base of the hydrangea anymore & that used to help me get a better shade of blue. This yr. though one suffered an iron deficiency that was pretty easy for me to correct. Other than that I'm pretty much hands off w/ my hydrangea. This yr. some of them really took off size wise all of a sudden and I thought that it wasn't going to be a good yr. for them but my Nikko's are still flowering better than my 2 different versions of everblooming hydrangeas that are in my side beds. The Nikko blue row is at least 7yrs old but I plant at least 2 new hydrangea somewhere every yr. My in-laws just gave me an oak leaf hydrangea for my birthday last night for my white garden. I've never planted an oak leaf before so I'm looking forward to that. I'll have a bank of those surrounding the bistro area of our patio....See MoreBedside lamp(s) when you only have one nightstand?
Comments (6)amieekim, I would love an overhead light. However, it would be very costly and a lot of work to put in since they would have to drill through joists to run wiring (not to mention all the holes in then ceiling!). I already checked for the living room (wanted a ceiling fan/light). That's why I was thinking of the upward light that worked off the remote. I could either keep the remote on the nightstand or mount it on the wall by the light switch and not have to walk over to turn it on/off. I might be putting a chair by it and get one that also had a reading light attached....See MoreWhat are the right nightstands this bed?
Comments (10)awesome bed, really beautiful i'd go with non matching ones. but not tufted ottomans since less practical. even if tray and everything-I'd always prefer some flexibility to store things inside etc I'd go for something bigger like a chest or even a small desk in the left corner(the windowless one) And for something small, round, very pretty, less practical but still able to hold couple things next to the window. As not to obscure that corner too much. Unlike many people I don't think lamps should match unless in very specific situations, and to me, bedroom nightstands is not one of them. Purely question of preference though. Also if you decide in the end to go for different height pieces-will be hard to get same exact lights. I think this bed is too wonderful and that corner with windows is too sweet, to make it into very matchy bedroom. I'd use that assymetry and play with it even more....See MoreNightstands - Approach to take when not matching bed/headboard
Comments (3)My advice is to not have two stained pieces of furniture together that are different colors. As a woodworker, I've learned over the years that natural (unstained) woods of two different colors can sit beside each other, but stained ones cannot. When the eye sees natural wood, it picks up on all the variations of color. Because of the variety of colors, the eye is forgiving with having two different prices next to each other. With stained furniture, it's one colour providing a consistent tone and the eye sees one color. When you have two stained pieces next to each other, it is very obvious that they don't belong together and can look like leftover furniture put into a room. I suggest looking for painted nightstands. I hope that helps....See Morejlt37869
