thrift store bargain of today

I haven't tried the key board yet, but it was only $1.98, and for the whole loot, I paid $7.60.

Got two glass baking dishes, one with glass lid (that almost fits correct) and the other with a plastic storage lid, a small trash can for my bathroom, and a bread loaf pan. I feel like I got a bargain.

Gracias, ajsmama :). Now it all makes sense. At least till I forget what I just learned; occupational middle-age hazard these days! Re. the ebay/thrift store relationship--do you think that the now ubiquitous online markets (EBay, Craigslist etc) have hurt, harmed or not affected bricks n mortar thrifting? Years ago (I was working PT, had more time to do fun stuff like this) my MIL and I enjoyed going to local bazaars,yard sales and church rummage sales. There were fairly often some nice things dumped in there. Now I suspect many more people are doing what flyleft encountered, shopping in order to then resell. I think there is a whole new 'entrepreneur' niche, at least I've read about people who make their living or at least some income from selling online. Dunno, just wondering what folks who are more in the know think about this? Ann

I was a thrift store junkie for years, and have to restrain myself now to only what I need, not what I just want. We have this AWESOME Goodwill Bargain Barn here where you dig through bins of stuff and tables of clothes. Most of the clothes are last season's stuff from the regular GW, so good clothes. I've found some wonderful bargains...clothes are $1.69 a lb., so well worth the digging. Linens are $1.29 a lb., and I got a beautiful designer bed comforter and shams for less than $10. I bought a matching bed skirt at another thrift store for $5. I looked up the name brand, and most of their stuff goes for around $100 a set, so what a buy! I haven't shopped at a "real" store for so long, I wouldn't know what to do if I had to.

Sorry, no big deals here to chortle over. I can't believe this obsession with name brand clothing, etc. Seems to me that if the maker wants to put his name on a shirt, shoes, etc. that I'll wear (hopefully for years), s/he should sell it to me for half price. I advertise his product every time that I wear it. When s/he tells me that, due to the wonderful cachet of their brand name, exclusivity and all (but they willingly sell it to all comers) I must pay double the price of run-of-the-mill products for it .... I say that's *smart marketing*!! Seems to me that we should just laugh at them and tell them to get lost!! Momma Bird in good old Ohio - we're waiting for you to show us a picture of you modelling your lovely new suit. Kathy - sounds like a good idea to pick up a few of those wonderful desks ... and publicize them on eBay. Good wishes for stretching your dollars ... (I was tempted to add, something like, " ... but not your stories, please" but forebore - I have had no reason to believe that I've seen stories stretched around here. Accusing someone of lying is not exactly a laughing matter, in my book. Though I do enjoy a good laugh, as several of you know - usually of the rather dry kind of humour. Do you think maybe it actually was a julienne peeler? There's one currently on the market which is kind of similar in idea, but not exactly mouse shaped, and with a ring on the back for greater control. Oh! I should ask you what "bottom" means. I assumed at one narrow end toward the outside edge, but you might have meant in the center at the deepest point of the hollow. If the latter, could it be something like a ginger grater?

If you like thrift stores check out the Goodwill Industries online auction site...its an online auction sort of like ebay but the proceeds go directly to Goodwill Industries, which I feel is a very worthy cause and you cannot begin to imagine some of the bargains I have found there.

I am into photography and I have bought cameras, lenses and other items for pennies on the dollar.

They have all kind of categories...hobbies & crafts..kitchenwares, collectibles, cameras & camcorders, clothes, jewelry, antiques, tools and much more

I will caution you though, when shopping through their listings check out the photos real well. I find that in most instances the ppl who write the descriptions know very little about what they are describing.

To give you an example of what I have found there, about a year ago I bought an old 35mm film camera that came with three lenses and a carrying case. The camera works fine, but we all know that film is almost a thing of the past. What I was really interested in was the lenses because they all three work with my new Digital SLR. I bought that whole set for $26 + $8 S+H..just one of those lenses in that set is selling on Ebay right now for $199.
