Althea, too bad you can't remember. As we look at the U.S. from Canada, the clout of celebrity and the entertainment industry seems amazing. I don't put it beyond the realm of possibility that a popular actor can accomplish something good if he makes it into political office. But I do wonder whether a lot of people will look at his administration uncritically because they are charmed by him personally. It's said that your Ronald Reagan constantly relied on his advisors because he was not personally politically astute - he just had to be a good public persona. And so people had to live with what his advisors came up with in terms of policy. I'm in no position to bash Arnold, but I'd like to think that some Californians and others are focussed on what decisions and policies he's making and what direction he's taking. But probably people get their information from many different sources (radio, TV, papers, Web sites) and do not discuss it on any one site. J.

i strongly agree with virgil about the real work done on these shoes i have to say, i really hope they change hgtv shows. i know theres a thread somewhere on here all about hgtv but im sick and done with the fake happy couples who happen to mysteriously have ginormous amounts of money to flip and renovate homes into ugly houses for the fools who are on the show its the same s*it all over and over day after day, just different couples doing the same decorating and "designing" when we know all the TRUE work is done by engineers, architects, contractors, plumbers, electricians, handymen, house stagers and interior designers who work with them. you know....the little people

It was taken from memoir by the same name. Of a family in chaos throughout the children's lives. Smart, educated parents but father was an alcoholic. The family lived in the poorest of conditions but also had some freedoms and intellectual pursuits that were rays of sunshine. Woody Harrelson played the alcoholic father. I may have seen him in one too many violent roles because he was hard to watch. Otoh, most families have some experience with alcoholism and can relate to this family in some way. As a story, it has merit. Hard to watch though imo.

I will attempt again, this time in two sections Part 1 Thanks for bringing this up, Rusty. Turpin children I saw the episode and it was astonishing. It left me with many questions. And I hope Diane sawyer of others follow up because these 13 children ranging in ages we horrifically abused. Although public contributions for these kids (from private citizens) amounted to over $600,000, the money did not reach those children to assist them and educate them as was intended. It was funneled away into a labyrinth of legal, public and private agencies with no transparency or accountability, with the excuse of confidentiality. Some of them were living in horrific foster care situations, sometimes ejected from foster housing immediately after they reach the age (18 or 16). Some of them have not been able to learn how to even use public transportation, find housing or food, count change, or receive the minimum socialization in catch-up education. Some have been on the street, naive, with no money or protection. Apparently one is going to college and studying engineering but is very private and does not want much exposure to his circumstances broadcast. Understandable. These children have been severely failed by agencies that were charged with looking after them and providing that money donated for them. And under the guise of “confidentiality,” there has been no oversight or transparency.
