Almost 12 years later... how very sad.

How ridiculous. The family had no motive at all. It's sad the mother died before she could see this. It was a disgrace to suspect them to the extent they did.

I can understand the OP's position, because I'm having to listen to my niece-in-law say almost the exact same thing. Except that they bought a million-dollar house in CA at the top of the market, and are now having to relocate due to his job, to the East Coast - specifically Boston, where RE is almost as expensive as it is here. I think a lot of Millennials have grown up with the expectation they can have everything and win all the time. My NIL was told by several RE agents that they could break-even on their house - they both make good salaries and have paid the mortgage down substantially, so altho underwater on the original purchase price, they are break-even on current market price. But that's not good enough for her. She wants to quit and be a stay-at-home mom for their two boys, and buy a equally big traditional SFH in Boston. The numbers don't really work, but she won't acknowledge that. Is it reckless, immature, and selfish? Maybe. Is it risky in today's economy for her to quit (she's got better job prospects than he does, but not if she sits out for 20 yrs)? Yes, probably. Is it my business? Thankfully, no. When you're young, people telling you you're wrong just 'puts your back up' and you'll stop listening. We've all made mistakes, and maybe this will be one of the OP's. Money is the #1 issue that breaks up marriages, and always has been. Not necessarily the lack thereof, either - more the handling of it, than anything else. Money's a very personal issue, related closely to how we see ourselves. We've been underwater on our home, saw it jump in value, then saw it fall again in the recent slump. But ours is paid off, so it really doesn't matter. It's just a place to live....but only time taught us that.

I watched the CBS shows and I've watched the Dateline and some of the Dr. Phil. I don't know what to think, other than believing an intruder is the least-likely scenario. Not impossible, but very unlikely, due to the way the note was written, the way the body was discovered, and Burke's interviews shortly after the crime and 18 months after the crime. Burke said he heard his mother come into his room and then go out of it looking for JonBenet, and then he heard her in hysterics (as he said in the interview afterward "going psycho") and just stayed in bed pretending to sleep or trying to sleep, rather than go try to find out what had happened. Picture your own kids. You burst into your 9 year old's room and then just as suddenly depart. You are frantically crying and screaming, alerting your spouse and then placing a 911 call. Your 9 year old doesn't freeze with fear. They don't hide. They also don't come ask you what's wrong. They don't go find dad and ask what's wrong. They just stay in bed and wait. The only reason I can think of for him to do this is either that he was used to the sound of adults "going psycho" in other parts of the house and did not find that unusual/alarming--or he knew what the problem was and was waiting to find out how his parents were going to handle it.

Why would the family do all that horrible stuff to the little girl just to "cover up for Burke"? OK say the kid hit her in the head, wouldn't it be a lot more logical to make up some sort of an accident like she fell down some stairs instead of coming up with a kidnapping and a sexual assault and tying her all up into some contraption that the rope was embedded into the child's neck. I mean, they'd have to be crazy to do all that. And if they were crazy people, wouldn't someone have ever come forward and said that those people were crazy nuts? I don't recall anyone saying the family was a bunch of bat sh*t crazy loonies! Another thing, if Burke did kill her, he was NINE YEARS OLD, it's not like he would have gone to prison!

I never thought they were involved either. Very tragic to lose a daughter and then have to live with the false accusations for so long.

It's very sad that the mother died still being accused.
I wonder what DNA evidence just cleared them. Why on earth would it take this long? Do you think there is new evidence?

NO, this is not new evidence...as I understand it they have known for years that Jon B had DNA of someone who was now in her family or friends (they tested some of the men who were in the circle of friends) in her underwear.

I always thought the Ramseys did not fit the profile of parents who kill. Not saying I was onboard with the child beauty pageant lifestyle...but just b/c they chose differently for their daughter than we did for ours does not make them guilty.

What infuriates me is the fact that while they were trying to nail the parents for this, the real perp got off scott free.

Jon B had DNA of someone who was NOT in her family or their friends.

I am glad to hear that part of the case is cleared up.

They say her mother died believing the culprit had been found, that wacko in Thailand who claimed he was guilty. I understand the new DNA findings rule him out too.

Wonder if they will ever figure out who the murderer was.

The new tests are actually a new type of DNA test. They can now test items for "touch DNA", the cells left behind when you touch something. This technology did not exist when the murder happened.

It didn't help that they lawyer'd up right away and wouldn't cooperate with police..I think that's what threw so many peeps into a tizzy and kept accusing them of having something to hide...It's an all around tragedy and while I'm so very sad that Patsy lost her battle with cancer...she's no longer in agony of missing Jon Benet...i fully believe they are together once again. I hope they catch the killer someday...at least for the Father and families peace of mind.

I agree with Liz, Jon Benet and her mother are together. I never thought the family had anything to do with it.

This DNA thing will have alot of people... changing their minds about who they suspected did the horrible deed.

I've heard people say either the mother or brother could of killed JonBenet out of jealousy...
I never really had an opinion of which/who the killer was...But I always felt like someone in that family knew SOMETHING...
OK, I'm the doubtful kind...My first thought at reading this post was... Is it a cover-up?...The cops just want the case finally closed so the public will stop accusing. (?)

It is so sad to lose a child in such a horrible and bizarre fashion, and then to be blamed for it. I cannot imagine anything worse.
