Lost most of my pc info :^ (

My son had to crash my pc since I had a big problem. I lost most of the KT sites (recipes, photos, maps etc..)

Does anyone still have them?

I also need that site where you can make any picture a desktop with a calendar.

Any other good sites you care to share?

I just hate having to re-do my computer!

I'm not sure I can help, but I hope you will soon treat yourself to an external hard drive -- they are not expensive and you can use it to back up your files from now on.

And I'm very sorry this happened to your computer -- what a headache!

Not sure what you mean that he had to crash your PC. "Crash" means a variety of things. Usually that something happened to it, from a lockup, unexpected shutdown to a hard drive total failure. Are you sure you can't recover your data? With someone good, it can be relatively easy to recover.

If he formatted the drive and reloaded it, then it's not as easy although a good tech should have backed up the data before wiping the drive. Maybe you haven't lost everything? Hope not. Otherwise, what all you need? Look on the bright side: If everything is gone, there's a whole new world for you to explore, again! :)

I do agree that backups are important and so easy to do. I use a simple USB drive (sometimes called flash, jump or thumb drive) and copy important stuff onto it weekly (or immediately if it's VERY important) to monthly. And about monthly I transfer this to my backup computer so I have the stuff available if I have trouble with my main machine and it'll be relatively current. About twice a year I back up the entire drive onto a large external drive.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Computers can be so frustrating.

LOL, "wicked strength" stock is just a stronger/more concentrated stock, rather than a "brothy" stock. I'm a "full flavor" kinda gal. ;-) In this case I had made a two-carcass batch of stock with a couple onions (with the skins), a handful of garlic cloves, some carrot/celery trimmings I'd popped in the freezer just for stock, a few bay leaves and about 1/2 tsp. whole peppercorns, strained and then refrigerated it. Well, the next morning I tackled a 10lb. bag of chicken breasts, boned and skinned them, and threw the bones and skins into the de-fatted stock from the day before, and let 'er rip again. After several hours of low simmering, I strained and filtered the stock, then cooled in and popped it in the fridge. The next morning (yesterday) I lifted off the fat, then heated the stock, salted to taste and canned it up. It ended up very chicken-y, with a quite concentrated flavor. I like strong stock anyway - if I want it weaker I can always add water. I usually do stock in pints. Alternately, you can simply simmer stock until it is more concentrated.

There are lots of ways for Windows to become "corrupted" that have absolutely nothing to do with a virus or other malware. That's not to say that you didn't a some kind of infection and it's important to use software to protect your system. You also need to realize that tech support's solution to almost everything is to reinstall the operating system. Level 1 techs don't have the time or possibly the skill to diagnose every problem. So the pat answer is a fresh install. That's why it is so important to make regular backups of critical data. Invest in an external hard drive or use one of the online services like Mozy or Carbonite. If you are going to use an external device don't forget about multiple backups and offsite storage. All the backups in the world won't do you a bit of good if they are sitting next to the computer when the house burns down or a tornado strikes.

Hello again nice people, I have a question. Since Zep has led me through so many steps and has helped me clean up some of the junk on my computer my question is this. What will the results be if I can find no way to get Java downloaded? Is it absolutely necessary that Java be on the computer for things to work right. I see no results from NOT having it, other than not being to play some games, I play most any game I want without any trouble, most of them very graphic. I still need to delete the Firefox Beta version and keep the right version, but I've got to straightened out the shortcut Icons on my desktop, they're both intertwined. Other than that I don't seem to be having any problems. I don't know if there is something else on the Hijack list that needs to be addressed, Zep didn't say so I assume that there is not. I did get the problem with Incredimail straightened out. That also was a register error. After today I am headed for hopefully a wonderful trip to Yellowstone National Park. I will check on this thread as soon as I get back to see what you think about leaving well enough alone. Thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge.

I will second Elmer's comments in regard to uninstalling IE...DON'T. In fact, I will take it a step further...don't uninstall or try to delete ANYTHING that came with Windows or was put there by an update of Windows. If you do you are not just asking for trouble...you are begging for it. If there is something you don't like about the OS, you are free to ignore it and not use it. It won't do any harm to you except take up a little space on your hard drive. OTOH, if you are running out of hard drive space because you have too much crud on the disc then feel free to disregard this post. You have chosen your own fate and you deserve it. I will try to stay out of it. Have a nice day!

BTW is this the recipe site you were looking for?

Did a search and found some options for making the wallpaper with calendar. Here's one. Haven't tried it so I don't know if it's any good or not.

Good. Now just be sure to BACK UP!! :) I'm proud of myself... did a full system backup night before last. And I do incrementals about weekly. Been keeping up on it pretty good lately. Now everyone go back up your important schtuff!
