Update on baby Rowdy's surgery

They did the surgery this morning at 7:30.He came through with flying colors and is doing well.They had to do a double colostomy but will remove it and re sect the bowel before he goes home.The doctor did say they are testing him for Cystic Fibrosis because the type of blockage is common with CF,although his was not "typical",whatever that means.Anyway she didn't seem to be worried,just cautious.She said he will be in the hospital about a month because she wants to "grow" him a little bit.They will start feeding him in about a week.

Jillian is doing great.She has gained 3 oz. over her birth weight and is now breast feeding for every feeding.They say she will be there until her original due date (Aug 17),but mom says it's going to be much sooner because they need to get out of there and up to Lubbock with Rowdy!LOL

Please continue to pray for them.It is really appreciated.

Well I'm glad he's doing so well after the surgery. Poor little guy has had his share of problems already. Prayers he continues to improve. That's great little Jillian is doing so well.

Good news about the surgery, and while it's terrible to have to have surgery at such a young age, I'm sorry the family is seperated from each other. We have twins, so I know how special that is. Time will make a huge difference and all will be well, in time. Prayers for everybody involved. God bless.

Kristi, When I first read your description of the maggots, I thought it sounded like the maggots of what I call house flies. You see, I grew up as the daughter of shrimper/fishermen, and obviously, we cleaned and dealt with a lot of fish and shrimp. House flies are attracted to anything that smells strongly, and Amaryllis bulbs that are rotting have a very similar horrible smell. That will attract those flies. They will feed on the rotted material and deposit their 'eggs', thus resulting in maggots that you describe. Speaking of bulb rot, I purchased some of the 3 for the price of one bulbs last year. One of those, Mambo, had a rotten spot on it. I am the world's worst, I know, about being curious and wanted to try something different. I decided not to complain about the bulb. I cut away the rot and noted some bulbils growing inside. I let the bulb air dry rather than using Captan. In fact, I sort of lost track of the bulb for awhile and just recently found it again. The bulb was still in fine shape, so I put the bulb in a little clear cup with an inch or two of soil mix in it and watered it to see what happend. Sure enough, there is a new bulb forming beside the mother bulb. I want to plant the whole bulb but I am simply too curious about the little growths inside the bulb. It's too hard to explain without a picture, so as soon as my camera battery is charged, I will take some and upload them for you to see. In short, after over 6 months of not being planted and hidden away (lost), the mother bulb looks fantastic and I await to see what happens to all those little things that look like bulbils that are forming inside. I thought about cutting the bulb, but I decided not to do so because I wanted to see what was happening inside the damaged bulb. Pictures later...

Absolutely miraculous!!! What a change.....and he has a smile!! I studied speech therapy in college ( before getting my Mrs.!) And one of the things we learned was how to teach children who had cleft palates to speak. The surgery that AJ had was not perfected. I knew 2 men who had un corrected clefts, they were limited to professions where their inability to speak clearly and to eat in public was not an issue. AJ is a miracle baby!! By the time he is a teen, this will be just a memory, remembered by a faint scar on his lip!

Thanks for all the prayers.They are working!They flew him to Lubbock this afternoon.He does have an obstruction but it isn't as bad as the thought it might be.It is only a partial one and they will do Laparoscopic surgery tomorrow afternoon and fix it.Mom has known the doctor that is doing it for a long time and has complete trust in her so she is feeling better about everything.I'll keep everyone updated.

YIPPEEE- So good to hear that he will soon be reconnected. The surgery should go really smoothly.....he will sleep through it, it is all his relatives that will be stressed. Give him a great big hug for me.

That's good news for Rowdy. Are they in different hospitals? If so I hope they can move Rowdy back to be with his sister and both can be breastfed and get the attention they need! It has to be so hard on the parents!

My grand twins were a little over 2 lbs each, but thankfully had no health problems. They were born Dec 23rd and left the hospital Mar 13th which was around their due date. My DS and DIL moved to the city so they could spend every minute possible with both of them and DIL breastfed them both. I feel like it gave them such a great start in life. Now, 3Â½ years later they are completely caught up with other kids their age. I'm hoping the same for your twins.

Glad to hear that he is doing well. A colostomy in a little baby is pretty easy to look after but it sounds like he won't need it for that long anyway.

Thanks everyone.Just talked to DDIL and she said he is still out and intubated but they want to keep him low key for a while.They did give him a transfusion today to give him a little boost in healing.So far so good but keep the prayers going.
Maryann-Gosh,it doesn't seem possible that your twins are already 31/2! Time flies doesn't it? LOL
They moved Rowdy to Lubbock yesterday for the surgery and Jillian is in Odessa.He will be staying there until he is ready to go home in about a month.They said today that Jillian will be in Odessa for at least another week.Lubbock is about 100 miles from where we live and from Odessa.Odessa is 60 miles from here.DDIL is going to ask tomorrow if they can transfer Jillian to Lubbock but I really doubt they will.
