Yearly for us. I am 71 and there has been no change in my eyes in several years. I am still wearing the same glasses I purchased when I had my cataracts removed.

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes, so I am scheduled for a full eye exam every November for the rest of my life and sooner if I notice any significant change in my eyesight. I have to go to an M.D/Opthamologist for my visits.

Once a year even if my eyes are good, I want to be checked for glaucoma.

Probably been 25 years since I had mine checked. A good friend's husband is an optometrist and even he said people get their eyes checked way more than needed. But some are addicted to going to the doctor for whatever reason.

Being careful is not being addictive. Glaucoma is serious and should be caught early on if possible.

I went once every five years, and then at age 50, I had three emergency eye exams in 90 days, due to some sudden problems. Yeesh. I'll probably go once a year from here on out.

rosemary, so am I and also have cataracts. I am not having them removed until I have trouble passing the eye test for my driver's license renewal. I am a high risk for the surgery.

After having cataracts removed, had annual checkups for 8 years,and now the Dr. says every two years unless I notice a problem. DH has to go about every 8 months unless he's having unusual problems. He's blind in one eye and very limited in the other eye due to arthritis.

Annually for many years up until now that I am a glaucoma suspect so now i go much more often. I also have a macular problem they are watching.

The optomotrist I am now seeing are really good. And I am blessed not to have very many issues with my eyes.. They detected a teeny tiny cataract in one eye and when checked a year later, they said there was no noticeable growth at all. I was able to keep these glasses for another year. They were quite pricey, but oh so worth the money. They are guaranteed 100% replacement for a period of 24 months from the day I got them It doesn't matter if I sit on them, or they get scratched, the will replace them at no charge whatsoever. And the best of all is that I can see extremely clearly... it is so cool to see all the wonderful details that were just fuzz before even with new glasses from other less costly venues. I really feel that I will be needing a new RX this year. It has gotten so that I can see a tad better to drive without the glasses than with them. Not a huge difference, but ever so slight. Same thing for reading the Power point screens at church. If I am working the sound booth, the screens are quite a distance away and if I am to stay in sync with the choir, I really need to be able to see those screens clearly.

I think perhaps I will opt for transition lenses this time around. I am tired of switching them when I go out into the bright sun.

I go once a year, and get new contacts and back-up glasses every year (although I didn't get new glasses this year because my prescription hadn't changed that much).

Hubs goes every four to six months because he has glaucoma; which, so far, is under control.

Country_sunshine, go for the transitions. They're great! (It did take me nearly two weeks of splitting headaches to get used to them, though.)

I go every year, my mother has glaucoma and I want to catch it early should I develop it. I had a little problem with flashing blue lights in my left eye this year and I went and found out I had a bit of a vitreous detachment. My doctor, who is so nice, told me next time that happens, don't wait for 3 or 4 weeks like I did, to call him anytime day or night, so he can check and make sure it's not corneal detachment. THAT would have been a big deal. Around here, most doctors phone numbers are in the phone book. :)

Glaucoma pressure check every 4 months. Also, arthritis med requires close supervision for eye damage. But usually, if he has samples, he will give me a bottle of my glaucoma drops which saves me more than my co-pay.

Being Diabetic, and now, after having cataract surgery on both eyes, I need to go yearly. Just for a check up, I don't need glasses anymore except reading (drugstore) glasses for small print.

I have severe dry eye and glaucoma, so I go in at least every six months.

As a glaucoma suspect since my 20's, I went every 3-4 months for over 30 years. Glaucoma has no noticeable signs to the patient until it's advanced. As several others have said it has to be caught and treated early or you will permanently lose eyesight. Glaucoma has NOTHING to do with wearing glasses, and even children can have it. I believe STRONGLY that everyone should see an opthalmologist (NOT an optometrist--they are NOT medical drs at all) annually to check the health of their eyes, whether or not htey need glasses)

Then, one day, a tech asked me if she could practice a new test she'd just learned to do on me while I was having my annual, day-long battery of tests at Wills Eye (nation's best eye hospital). Of course. Well, out of the blue, I was no longer in as much danger as had been suspected by several specialists. My corneas are thick--so thick they're about off the chart. And thicker than average corneas mean that the glaucoma test results are thrown off. Even though I test well above normal in the glaucoma test, my eyes are fine. Of course, I still have to go to the opthal. frequently because now we know that, we also know that it will be very difficult to diagnose me if I ever do develop glaucoma.

For anyone who said above they're a glaucoma suspect-- if you haven't had the corneal thickness test done, request it. It takes a second and is painless. But it's not routinely done with glaucoma suspects.

Sadly, there are people who have THIN corneas--who can get normal glaucoma readings even though they HAVE the disease and are losing eyesight. That's much worse than my situation. I would like to see EVERY opthalmologist do a corneal thickness test on EVERY patient on their first visit. Because you need that info to accurately interpret the glaucoma numbers.

I get glasses every year or 2, depending upon whether or not I can thread a needle--LOL. And I always go to the optician dept. at the community college where I get them at cost. Few months ago, DH and I got new ones--1 pair for him, 2 for me--regular and sunglasses. All 3 had Varilux progressives (best brand), I got 2 pairs of designer frames, and avance non-glare coating (again, top of the line) on my everyday pair. Total cost for all 3? only $450. One comparable pair would have cost twice that at most optical shops. For anyone wanting good quality frames and lenses, sold and fitted by a pro, at a good price, I'd highly recommend going to the local college of opticianry.

Provincial Heath coverage is every two years except for diabetics who are covered for annual check ups.

Unless she had an eye problem, I am kind of surprised an optomotrist told the OP every 6 months... Maybe due to her age or eye health history...

Everyone's eye health is different... I tend to go to an Optometrist generally when I want new glasses LOL - but I see an ophthalmologist separately.

I've never had regular eye exams; in fact, until this year, I hadn't seen an eye doctor and had new glasses since the mid 90's!

Amazingly, I didn't need much lense correction, but I did discover I had recently experienced what Flamey has described and was told the same thing. Now that kinda scared me as I bet it did you also, Flamey.

Thanks to my generous son, who was here on vacation from Arizona, he paid for these new glasses which are my first pair of no line trifocals! Just LUV them! :)

I'm supposed to go once a year...but I didn't make it last year.

I used to go every 2 years but I put it off and now it's been about 5 years. I've worn glasses since I was 16 and was very near sighted. But about 2 years ago I noticed I could see better without my glasses than with. And also read road signs better than Harry without them. So when I had to get my license renewed, I asked if I could try to take it without my glasses and I passed big time.

I posted about it here and found out I'm not as unique as I thought LOL!!!
