Opinions please!! - Too much board & batten??
Comments (22)Here are some interior changes we are considering that will affect the exterior of the house...the goal is to reduce square footage: Completely remove the jack n jill bath and add a half bath near the garage entrance...the kids will have to share a bath that's equally accessible. Create room on the left side of the porch for the porch swing that's in the first inspiration picture. Move Tool & Storage area with Carport further back (maybe in line with the kitchen). I feel it competes with the front porch. The master bath & closet seems overly large to me...maybe there's a way to cut back there? We do homeschool and will be using the dining room for school but at 17' I wonder if it's too large. The Kitchens forum was very helpful in removing the corner pantry in the kitchen and making a walk-in pantry accessible from the laundry room and kitchen. The pantry will take up the space between the Tools & Storage and the kitchen (if that makes any sense.)...See MoreHas anyone bought eyeglasses online?
Comments (24)Another fan of Warby Parker here (actually, three altogether, including DD and DS). DD, who wears contacts, needed a backup pair for travelling. Via their Home Try-On program, she easily found a pair she liked -- cannot beat the $95 price. DS also wears contacts and wanted a backup pair: loves his WPs so much that he wears glasses more frequently than contacts. I've usually been able to keep my frames, just purchase lenses (as my vision Rx changes), then have the optician swap out the lenses during one visit. A couple of years ago, I was told that 'new laws' prohibited this. I would need to leave my glasses with them so they could send them to the shop for the swap -- two weeks without my glasses...no can do. I purchased a pair of WP progressives last summer, and they've been perfect....See MoreTitanium Eyeglass Frames “soldered” or brazed Repair? Silhouette frame
Comments (37)Thanks, mdln. and, Elmer, I suspected that could very well be the case. Or, the charge may be steep. Some of these optical shops are guarded and pricy. Most of them have a good thing going and are protective of their turf, contacts, sources and so on. That’s business and there is likely a good amount of competition. However, I bet I could find someone to do it — for a price. What if someone from one coast moves across country and wants to keep their pricy frames while updating the lenses? I already sent mine for repair and I am not crazy with the lenses in such a short frame — too much dithering to find the sweet spot. If they can’t be mended, I’ll Just use a hot glue gun after abrading the mend area (facetious). I’m resourceful (often). I once repaired an SUV rear windshield washer nozzle for $0.45 instead of paying for a whole new dealer installed washer unit. I just needed a teensy weensy patent tube. I was confident I’d stumble across something some day. Voila! A basketball inflating needle worked fine after I cut it to size, uncrimped it, and epoxied it into place. clt3 — I’m happy to hear you love your frames. For me, it was (before they broke) the short lenses and (apparently) the “narrow channel” archetecture of the lenses. Okay for static driving, but they were awful for me if I needed to keep swapping fields (say when shopping). I guess I’m a tactile intolerant sort — I’m easily irritated by things around my face — hair, bangs, glasses, smudged eyeglasses, eyelashes in my eyes (or goop), hats that have a wide brim, long sleeves when working, tight shoes or waistbands, people too close; intrusive sounds like fans or keyboard clicks. I like near monastic silence, but with cool, clean fresh air, sky, vegetation and wildlife. To me, this is normal. I have no idea how anyone can think or create in a stifling environment in dress clothing (tight shoes or heels, a suit or dress with constricting waistline or jacket. If I cannot row a boat in it, I don’t want it on me. (And no, I don’t want to smell your charcoal grill or suffer your leaf blower racket.) Comments (38)What is your budget for the backsplash? Who is installing the backsplash? Where are you currently looking for tile (online or tile showrooms)? My personal taste is a backsplash that has some character. I am a fan of Fireclay Tile. I don't think I've seen anything from their inspiration gallery that I hated. They make handmade tiles in many colors and shapes and can lend to a lot of different styles. I can see this working for your kitchen: https://www.fireclaytile.com/tile/colors/detail/mist/tile-specialty-field-wave. It kinda has that wave pattern you like, they have many colors like white and muted gray/blue, and I think it may play nice with the counters and floor in your kitchen. It may be helpful to make a new post asking specifically for backsplash suggestions as I know there are many pros on here who are more likely to see that and can help with selection if you are feeling really lost....See MoreFunkyart
