Don't forget the Alpine Strawberries. So easy to start from seed and produce fruit the first year. Even very small children can tell the difference between ripe and not ripe berries. Last year we had an April Neighborhood Kid Snow Day seed starting party (a tradition resurrected after a 12 year gap of few neighborhood kids) and each kid went home with a six pack of one cell each Alpine Strawberry, Genovese Basil, Lemon Basil, Bronze Fennel, Summer Savory and Echinacea. The requisite for seed inclusion was Absolute Ease. I also made sure that they all had a south facing window where their plants could grow. While some plants made it and others didn't, the kids got the basis of why some seeds need to be stratified, some like light and some dark to germinate, some sprout sooner than others, etc. By the end of the summer of the 36 plants started, 27 were still alive and each kid had a small herb garden. Since all but the basils should come back in some form this year, they are already talking about it. Anything that keeps 6 7-11 year olds happy for almost an entire year certainly is "magic." Martie

That is funny.,,,,there are probably some troll reviews by people who don't realize it is fictitious. DH and I were really looking forward to The Grand Budapest Hotel as we generally like Wes Anderson, but neither of us could stay awake for this one. It was tediously unfunny and the storyline just had no hook for us (or anyone I could imagine watching). I loved Moonrise Kingdom because all that imagination was in the service of a passable plot in a setting full of American archetypes and memes. Excessive style for its own sake is never successful------in any cultural art, not just movies.

That's pretty amazing stuff, Kat. I was tempted to try some of the gravity ones, but thought better of it. I'm going to send this to my grandkids.

DS#1 ate anything but potatoes. I was cool with that. The rest of my relatives weren’t, they wanted to make rice, or couscous, or anything, specially for him, when they had us over for dinner. I said, he can go one meal without a carb. DS#2, where did he come from, was so picky. But, we still never made something different for him. We took advantage of his love of numbers: eat as many bites as you are old. He turned that into many ways of counting, and calculating, while he ate. By the time he was 5, and ever since, he is as adventurous a diner as his brother. But, I’m not grandma! It’s the parents’ place to raise their child. Grandma gets to indulge. When we visited one grandma, she had white bread. oooh! The kids were in heaven. But, that was the treat at that grandma’s. And that’s okay.
