Are you enjoying another really hot day like we are here in central Indiana? 92 right now according to my computer. I am glad Amber and I got an early start for our grocery shopping. Not too many bargains at the grocery. I did get some really tasty nectarines for $.77 a pound. Cabbage was $.39 a pound, sweet cherries at $2.99 a pound. They must have been out of the green beans I had wanted for $.88 a pound as I looked all over for them. I am sure getting hungry for some fresh cooked ones. We had a nice lunch from Wendy's. We each had the new salad with blueberries and strawberries topped with almonds and raspberry vinaigrette. I had a big unsweetened iced tea and it was really good. Amber tried out the new berry frosty and she said it was good. I for one am glad I am back home and things put up. Amber carried in all of my groceries and I do appreciate that. Things are very dusty. I talked to my soon and he worked 5 hours out in this heat. He said he took out a stump and he had a big dust cloud all around him and he had mud dripping down all over himself. I sure feel for all those that have to work in weather like we are having. Anyone care to share what they are doing today?

Took the car to the shop to get the radiator replaced. Went to the grocery store, picked up sandwiches from Honey Baked Ham for lunch.

I feel very sorry for those workers who work outside in the heat--construction, roofers especially. It's brutal.

Much cooler today. Temp 90, but cool wind from the north and dry. very high humitity yesterday.
Also very windy
Lots of people getting ready to go camping and/or to the lakes.

I was sitting in my library doing a crossword puzzle when I heard a loud bang outside. I immediately thought there must have been an accident down on the state route, or someone may have hit my mailbox. Got up and walked to the big picture window and a red van is in the left lane of my road, speeding up, as it left, I saw an Amish buggy upset in the ditch in front of my house! The van continued on, barely stopping at the stop sign and turned right onto the state route. I hurried and got my phone and dialed 911 as the Amish man and lady were crawling out of the buggy. She climbed up the embankment, he went to the horse. The horse was on it's side motionless at first, then began squirming but couldn't get up. The 911 operator asked me the usual questions and also if I saw which direction the van went. Meanwhile a good Samaritan in a pickup had stopped to help. So I go outside to comfort the lady, who was not hurt. Neither was her husband. In fact I was more shook up than she was! Their groceries had spilled out of the buggy, the left rear wheel was bent. The man worked to get the harness off the horse, which to me looked to be in distress. oh my gosh. I was worried I was going to have to witness a horse being put down. The pickup driver and the Amishman finally got the harness and bridle off the horse and the horse struggled to its feet - unharmed. He tied it to one of my trees in the yard. Squad came, asked their questions, I told them what I knew, altho I confessed to not seeing the actual impact. BUT - there was red paint on the wheel! All three of us heard the EMT say, "We got the van, it was stopped". Well, when the State Patrol got there, he told us they did NOT have the van responsible. In fact because we couldn't give a license plate number, "There is very little we can do". Oh man. Well I've seen this van plenty of times going up and down my road, he said look for damage and try to get a plate number. I doubt the driver will be using that van for a long while! In the end I was able to phone a neighbor who hauls Amish and she made arrangements with another hauler who had a long enough horse trailer to load the horse and the buggy and take the Amish couple home. I invited the couple to wait in my house because it was so cold. About 45min later they were safely on their way back home. whew. I don't think I'd be very good in an emergency, I was nearly in tears while talking to 911! lol

I was not feeling well for most of last week- a virus that turned into bronchitis which is very hard on me because I have asthma. All is well enough now, so I am back to gabbing away at the KT. I missed everyone :-) Rob, I had a terrible itching reaction to a sulfa drug many moons ago- it's awful. I hope you feel better soon. Kath, Four hours at the dentist?? My mouth aches for you. Yuk. Mama pinky, Aren't great parent teacher conferences the best things ever? There is nothing better than seeing your child meet his potential. I am going to offer a bit of unsolicited advice, because I learned this lesson a bit late in my parenting journey- I hope you don't mind. Carol Dweck from Stanford suggests we only reward effort and perseverance- never outcomes. A lot of bright children hardly need to study to do well in the young grades and are used to being praised for their results. Once they reach a stage where they need to study, they have not developed very good study skills and their self image is tied up in being a good student, so they are a bit stuck and often give up. Dweck popularized this theory when it was too late for me to learn from it. You should have seen the auditorium full of parents of late elementary/ middle schoolers when she spoke about this. We were all devastated at not having done a very good job. If I were you I might consider a special dinner or dessert with a "toast" to how well the boys stayed on top of their work and turned in their assignments and add anything meaningful you know about- like when Chip or Tim helped some one else learn, or struggled and learned something, etc. Motivation is a tricky thing.

My mil is visiting and my husband took the day off work. Us three and my two daughters went out for lunch at Jason's Deli and then to see Murder on the Orient Express. The movie was just so-so. Came home, made supper, played lots of different card games. Prepped all my veggies, boiled eggs and made my mashed potatoes ahead of time to bake tomorrow. I also made my list of times and temperatures to bake stuff tomorrow. My mil gives my kids personal items when they turn 21. My son got a Harvard rocking chair last year when we were at her house and today she gave my daughter a beautiful diamond necklace. She has some papers she wanted me and dh to look at, so now I know what my youngest dd will be getting from her when she turns 21. She has almost exactly 2 years to go, since she will be turning 19 tomorrow.

86 and windy here this afternoon.....this morning we had a quick little shower while the sun was shining! It's still very humid, though, so not comfortable yet.

Went out to lunch and stopped at the grocery store. I was feeling guilty about the lunch thing so I stopped at a chinese restaurant to pick up some chinese for DH. When I went to put it in the refrigerator, there was a bag of chinese food already in there! He did the same thing when he was out. It was only 88 when I was out but it was like an oven out there. Very, very humid.

I rode up to my daughters, to get my mail. Got 38 miles in. Glad I left before 7:00 AM, cause when I got back it was 95 degrees.

After I showered and got cleaned up I ran the rest of the errands. Sure wish, those places would have been open before 10:00 AM.

Had a nice lunch with Andy, and just finished reading my mail and need to do some paper work.

Tomorrow, back to work at Home Depot.

Grant was over all morning. He rode his bike over to the park then was so hot when we got home he went swimming. It's really hot here today so I just sat on the deck in the shade with my Ipad. I swear he would stay in the pool all day. He really does love it, but what kid doesn't.
Don't really have anything planned for the afternoon.

I've stayed home all day. The tech from Direct tv was supposed to be here between 12:00-4:00. He was running late and said he would be here at 5:00. So I'm waiting on him.

I went walking with my friend this morning for an hour. It was so hot and sticky when we left the mall at 9. At 1 I had a perm and a hair cut so I feel like a human being again.

Right now my new dryer is being installed so I will be doing laundry the rest of the afternoon.

I am staying indoors where it is cool. This evening I am watching Finn. He and I are going to a music jam at church that had been scheduled for the patio but was moved indoors where we are air conditioned. He is only 9 months old but he loves music, which is good, since he will be taking piano lessons when he is old enough.

I had to work and was hot and cold off and on all day, between the freezing cold air conditioning and hot flashes I didn't know what I wanted to do-lol. It was very hot and humid when I walked out tonight, though. Busy day today, two more to go.

I was at the office until after 7:30 pm. The heat was like a furnace when I stepped outside. The contractors ripped out the sidewalk yesterday and dumped the cement in the dumpster today. I don't know how they can stand the heat!

My boss wanted to give me Friday off, but I have too much work to do. If I skip a day, there will just be more work next week. I love my job, but it is demanding. I'm just glad for the AC!
