He is so handsome and looks so much like my Beeswax. I hope the surgery went well and that he heals up fast and completely. Our collie Shanzie had a toe removed ( its a big deal, like taking off your little finger up to the wrist) and she came home from the vet the same day and acted perfectly normal, it didn't bother her a single bit. I will hope it's like that for Rocky!

He'll do fine;
in fact, his personality may change a bit for the better.

I once found a Doberman who was skittish & a little on the hysterical side;
he was carrying his left hind leg, & the toes on the foot were swollen so badly that they were freakishly deformed-looking.

Vet tried everything & finally amputated the toe & biopsied it & found that a crushing injury had damaged the nerve.

From the minute that he was no longer in pain, that dog became the most friendly, amusing, enjoyable little feller you could hope to meet.

The "recovery" was over, all but the bandages & hydrogen peroxide, as soon as the hurt was gone.

I betcha Rocky's in a very similar boat.

Were you able to bring Rocky home yesterday - how's he doing?

Yes, I brought him home yesterday, and he's ensconced in the guest room, a.k.a. the Cat Motel. I wonder if he remembers it from the two weeks he spent there in April, following his neutering surgery.

He's wearing a cone collar to prevent him from licking the paw. He's being good about it (really, he is one of the best. cats. ever.), and I take it off twice a day to make sure he gets enough to eat and drink. I'm feeding him more canned food than usual because the collar probably somewhat limits his access to water.

I bring a book in and lie down with him a couple of times a day. He loves this. So do I.

He's on Clavimox twice a day (antibiotic), and for the first time in quite awhile his right foot doesn't smell infected. Fingers crossed!

I'll tell him he has many friends at the KT.
