My daughter had knee surgery today

Today my daughter had knee surgery to have her meniscus
repaired from a soccer injury. All went well and she is home with a Polar Pack and Loritab. On Wednesday we make a visit to her physical therapist and then in two weeks back to her surgeon. I got a little teary eyed when we went in to see her after the surgery, but she did really well. We will have some fun memories of her coming out of the anesthesia.
Tomorrow we are going to go to the grocery store and she wants to ride in one of the electric carts.

Sounds like a successful surgery and your daughter seems to have a good attitude! I hope she has fun with her grocery store cart ride!

The girls are soon to be 7 months old and my son moved over to Poland before Thanksgiving. He comes back here every few months but plans to stay there until the immigration applications for his wife and babies are processed so they can all move here. He's quite the Mr. Mom now that his wife has gone back to work. Of course he has his mother in law and a twice a week nanny to help but he's falling into the routine rather effortlessly. Something about this younger generation of parents..the Mom's expecting full participation by the Dad's. Weird. I couldn't wait for my husband to go back to work after we brought the baby home.

He did this in his office? Sounds like a need to have something like this done in a hospital. I do hope you will recover and your troubles will be over. If PT is recommended, be sure you do your exercises. I know what you mean about surgeries every year...in the last four years, I have had two hips, one knee completely replaced and a torn menscis repaired....can't have anymore, my "buddy" is not here to help me anymore. He was so good to take care of my needs and get me to my PT appointments, etc. Good luck and take care, Mary (Phoggie)

(((Springer Mom and Baby))) Good advice from Laurie, as always! When going thru similar situations, I've always marveled at how our furbabies seem to handle these things better than we could. Our cat Nikita came home after a week-long stay in the hospital (she burst her bladder after slipping and falling from the top of the wardrobe, and it was sewn together and some ugly stitches lined her tummy) - I was going crazy with worry, and the first thing she did when we reached home, was to coolly walk over to her PinkPanther, snatch him up in her mouth and hide with him in the bathroom. The vet did tell us to keep her confined to a small area for a couple of days, and then to allow her to just 'be a cat' later. She was zipping around the house at full speed in no time. You'd never know she had been thru major surgery (it was terribly 'major' for me!) I know waiting for results is really hard. Hope everything works out well. ALLEUIA,this is the first i've been able to get on here in several days,since i posted that question about the security alert.After i posted that,i could never get back here til now.I was having severe withdrawl symptoms!!LOL Anyway,i need to have knee surgery,and have needed it for the past few years.Dr has suggested that i wait awhile as it really doesn't last for the rest of your life.So i have done that,but am seriously considering having it done this spring.I too have arthritis in my knees,and i'll be 70 in March. My ds had it maybe 5 years ago,but his knees were worse than mine due to motorcycle/dirtbike racing.He got the knees from a cadaver and is doing very well.His recovery was super fast,He had it done on a thursday and went back to work on Monday,at first in a wheel chair for a couple days,then on crutches.He never went to rehab,instead he had some contraption set up in his bedroom at home as he told his dr,i have a businees to run,and don't have time to be running to someplace for therapy,so they got him set up and he did very well.Now you would never know he had knee problems. My sons dr and my dr both told me i should start exercising my legs now to get them strong before the surgery as that will make the recovery shorter and less painful.So ds is going to bring me his stationary bike and set it up in my sewing room.Yipee!! I had that same surgery about a year ago. I know she will do well as she is young and strong. It is a tough surgery for those of us who are older (much older). Satine

Sending a prayer that all goes well. My first knee operation was on both knees at the same time (not a smart move, as I didn't have a leg to stand on!), but I was in my early 30's, so it went well.

The problem was the therapy that followed. They were too aggressive and I ended up re-tearing the meniscus in one knee. Therapy is critical, but it shouldn't be done to the point where it really hurts.

I had three surgeries on one knee and if it hadn't been for those grocery store carts and the kindness of strangers, I would have had quite a time. Hope your daughter has a speedy recovery! I didn't have much pain after my meniscus surgery, as I recall.

Hope it goes well for her. I'm middle-aged and had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus last March, and was back to work five days later. Not completely well, but functional.

Hope your daughter gets well soon. Just had a torn meniscus fixed in Dec, second one in that knee. Now in Aug it will be a total knee replacement. Tell her to just take it easy on that knee.

ohhhh, of course the first thing that caught my eye was soccer...love it to pieces, but my kids and grands have a few misshaps...not surgery! hope her recovery goes well..if she still plays remind her warm-ups are a must!!

Thanks for all the comments. She is doing good and handling the pain pretty well. I keep putting ice into the Polar Pack. I am looking forward to her PT visit tomorrow so we can see her knee unwrapped. She will be playing soccer as soon as she is well and also running in cross country. She is a very strong athlete.

I had the same surgery two years ago. Might a make a suggestion to also place an ice pack behind her knee. It really helps to keep the swelling down. It sounds like she is in great shape! She will recover in no time!
