I have white, and though it may not be the latest look, there is no fear of it ever being dated like the popular Harvest Gold and Avocado Green became so many years ago.

Off white, it seems warm welcoming. I don't like a lot of contrast and I think black is depressing like a dark room. I am amazed at how many of neighbors live in a house never opening a window or blind. Their home feels like a cave.

I like what I have....a combo of brushed stainless and black....well, except for the almond freezer in the back corner...may it die quickly - then I will get black or stainless.

I like white ones, never have cared for the stainless steel ... I think it's because I'm not a contemporary kind of person.

Just had our kitchen remodeled and bought all new stainless steel appliances. The kitchen is so warm and earthy that the SS doesn't look overly industrial.

My folks had Avacado back in the 70's and I loved it. They even had our metal cabinets spray painted that color.

In my galley kitchen, white. Except for the dishwasher. It has a black panel (originally through my not ordering correctly, duh!) and I've come to like that.

In my galley kitchen, white. It matches the cupboards. The smooth top cooking surface on my stove is black. I wouldn't want stainless because I remember the avacado, turquoise, etc., etc., and how dated that looked after a number of years.

Some dishwashers have a front panel that can be flipped around and there is a different color on the back of the panel. Not all of them however.

We have black in the main kitchen and white in the second kitchen. I like the black better.

White. It's a clean timeless look. All large appliances are white and I wouldn't want anything else. I'm an appliance dept. junkie. Can't walk by without checking the new stuff out. Momentarily a color might grab me (washers and dryers mostly) but then reality hits and I realize I would tire of it soooo quickly.

Stainless is my least favorite except for small appliances which go well with white.

I'm the same with bathroom fixtures. Must be white. Worst is black for the ick factor but I did see a very expensive stainless toilet on display and it reminded me of a jail cell toilet. LOL

Stainless. I wanted stainless since the late 70's, when I saw it in architectural magazines, and finally got it about eight years ago. I don't worry it will be dated, since I see it in movies from the 60's and onward.

When we remodeled I chose all almond appliances to match the almond colored cabinets and beaded board walls. Nothing stands out and I like that.

White for frig and stove in kitchen, microwave off-white. Dishwasher was a bit off white in late winter, but has turned rather brown (with lighter striations when it moves in certain ways) more recently ... acquired when I was cultivating, seeding, weeding and staking in the garden.

White washer and dryer in basement, freezer originally white but a bit off-colour now.

My fridge/freezer and dishwashers have wood panels to match the cabinets. Since the cooktop is white, I used white on the built-in microwave/oven.

Had to call today to set up a service call. Would you believe it is to change the lightbulb in the microwave? Yup, you can't do that yourself. Has to be a tech. Bulb went yesterday. Putting food into the M/W now is like putting it into a safe -- a black hole. Guy can't come for a week. While he's here he can remove the oven door, separate the glass front from the rest and clean in between. DH spilled milk down through the vents at the top of the door -- impossible to clean without taking the door apart. What a *clever* design!

My early 70's kitchen had all metal St. Charles cabinets. They were a faded red when we bought the house. I had them sprayed ORANGE. It did cheer up the place. The countertops and sinks were stainless steel and there was stainless on the backsplashes. (Think 'dirty grey' color.) We remodeldd again later. No more orange. (What was I thinking?)

My appliances are all black...with a touch of stainless. When we remodeled our first house, we went with stainless and black. I am not fond of black. I am not fond of my countertops, which are ivory and icky. I am not fond of my kitchen sink. Small on one side, larger than normal on the other side.

White for me; Stainless was very much "in" the last time I went to buy new appliances. But I walk through an industrial kitchen at the University every school day and it truly doesn't look "homey" to me.

Dated almond in my house. I do think that the stainless steel will get dated in time too. Everything does - just call it a consumerism challenge.

My favorite is still the 1960s "coppertone" brown. That still is classy looking. Following that I like black, then almond. I like red too but hard to find but you could paint most appliances easily. A lot depends on how the room is decorated.

What is "dated"? Well, white for one thing - it's hardly "timeless" as fans claim. It's certainly as dated as any though it hasn't been as maligned as other colors. White has been the major fad 3 times that I can think of, the 1940s, a stint in the late 80s & early 90s and of course today, along with oak cabinets screams HABITAT FOR HUMANITY! To me, unless you have an all-white kitchen, (ick!) they stick out like a sore thumb. I thought the idea was that appliances should either match or blend in with the surrounding area and not draw attention that they were slapped in there nilly-willy. (Now THERE'S a term I don't recall ever using! LOL)

Stainless isn't as obnoxious, but I sure wouldn't pay hundreds extra just for a look. And it doesn't really impress me that much anyway.

I enjoy looking through some of the retro appliance sites and see some of the old appliances. Anyone remember the wallmount refrigerator/freezer? The slide out drawer stovetop? The lift up door oven?

I had a slide-out drawer stovetop in the first apartment I rented (back in the late 70's). It was cool to recess it when I wasn't using it....which back then was all the time!
