Did I say Corn?? LOL

Along with the tomatos this morning, I managed to pickd a bushel basket filled with peaches n cream sweet corn... This is just from 3 rows... still got about 20 more rows to pick .... yikes !! Gonna make some home made creamed corn, and some yummy corn relish..... This corn tastes good even raw .... but we love oorn a lot... There are still peppers and okra to pick, but not till it cools down this evening...

We haven't had rain for a couple weeks, so God has indeed blessed us mightily with His wonderful blessings....

mmmm....can't wait till ours is ready,...can't wait for corn cakes with fresh sweet corn!

Our sweet corn isn't ripe yet. We too planted Peaches and Cream, Serendipity, Sugar Bun, Golden Bantum and Silver Queen. We will probably freeze ours. It is doing very well since we water our big garden. Field corn and some sweet corn in our area are tasseling.

Good buys, Jan. I am really anxious to see pics of Talladega from your garden - hopefully you will get blooms next summer. Lucky you that you have so much room to keep adding daylilies. I added about 50 this fall and transplanted about 45 seedlings into flower beds. I am quickly running out of room and NO I am not making any more beds. Note to self: No more flower beds, no more flower beds... Thanks to everyone for their daylily photos and comments last summer. They helped me make my choices this past fall.I have only added 4 for spring, but think I have room for about a half dozen more. From the Stamiles I am buying Sir Francis Drake. Yeah jim I used to tell her that now she "doesnt want to know". My wife is a nurse she hates palms and plants period. She tried once to get into in and killed everything so that was over very quick. If I make sure we go on spring vacations where she wants to go she doesnt bother me about bringing a trailer of palms back. I just found out we are going to miami and key west for two weeks at the end of march. I am still going to california just might have to move it to the first week of may.

regular corn meal or corn GLUTEN meal? That's too pricey for corn meal. it should be 7-10 dollars for 50lbs bag. For corn gluten meal, it's 20-50 dollars for 40 or 50lbs bag. That's at feed stores but the price tend to vary store to store. Corn meal isn't much of fertilizer. It's mainly to prevent/cure fungal disease. Corn gluten meal is very good fertilizer but expensive. I usually buy soybean meal because it's a lot cheaper and a lot less messy and easier to use with rotary spreader.

I apprecite the thoughts. What can I say? I can't wing Tex-Mex very well (grin!). Gotta step out sometime; I'll get the hange of it. Three things on the recipe you linked Ann, jalapeno (I'd already leaned towards this sub) instead of bell (another sweet ingredient, right?), cilantro, and lime juice. Actually, it makes total sense. That's as Tex-Mex as it comes. I left off the most important signature ingredients. Big duh on my part! HA! Now if I just had a fresh lime juice margarita I could get started...

I have been buying it fresh at the market and it has been the best sweetest corn we have had.
I started a while back doing the microwave method with all husks on, microwave for 8min cut off the bottom, grab hold of the top husks and shake the cob out. I swear I may never cook it any other way. I am also partial to it grilled in the husk too.
I can make a meal of corn, love it.

I am jealous of you with those gardens.
What a wonderful bounty.

My sister and her boys would eat out of the garden like we would cherry tomatoes. They at corn green beans, peas whatever they liked. it was a snack, can't get much healthier than that.

Looks like one ear is starting to dent - so get 'er done! LOL

Our sweet corn patch has about 36 looong rows! Yea - I am hoping for cooler weather soon when it is ready. Our patch is on the edge of our commercial corn field. Got the coon and deer fence up!

My corn won't be ready for a couple of months yet-around the first wknd of Sept.-IF I am lucky,"maybe" the last wk of August-Would you be able to post your corn relish recipe-please

I just use the Ball Blue Book recipe... and make sure I have enough brine to completely cover the mixture... if I run short..I just make up a small batch of brine in a seperate pan to add to them...
Iowagirl.. our corn is getting dented rather quickly since we have had NO rain in 3 weeks.. I am just totally amazed that the stalks are making corn at all.. but God in His infinite wisdom has limited each stalk to just one ear each..

Our garden well is currently a dry hole in the ground..which has Larry a bit bummed out.. I told him to get it drilled way deeper than it is... and he should have water... either that or pump in from the creek..
