When trying to find a thread that is less than a month old I just use the *find* feature [ctrl+f]. Pick a word or two and it will go to that title with that word in it on each page. It is easier on the eyes and less stress.

Google search also works better for me than the Gardenweb search. Gardenweb search is awful :)

I use quotes when I search and also the term gardenweb.

To quickly find the detergent post I searched for:

"laundry detergent" "kitchen table" gardenweb

and it quickly found the post.

When I've tried Gardenweb "Search" a few times in the past ...

... it's given me a number of messages that had nothing to do with the situation that I'd asked for.

I long ago gave up on it.

This message board has it's own Search function at the bottom of the page. Type in the words and it will search The Kitchen Table website for you.

Tally - the search function here is notoriously bad - that is why most try an alternate way.

It works somewhat - but posts are not in order and sometimes it doesn't even find them at all. Google is a much easier option.

Dilly's way also works good for finding a term or keyword on the main pages with the thread listings.

Iowagirl, I use the KT earch function all the time. Google is fine too, but I always use the search function here first. If you use very specific words you aren't likely to get a ton of hits.

The "Laundry detergent" recipe was the first hit up on the KT Search.

I googled gardenweb and "laundry detergent" and I got two hits from the money saving tips forum and one hit each from the frugal gardening and orchids forum. I had to hit the "More results from Gardenweb" to find the KT post.

I don't like the GW search engine either but still use it first before I go anywhere else. If a post you're looking for is still on the first page and I think the even second page, the GW search tool will not find it for some reason. That's when I would go to Google, or use the browser Find tool (CTRL F) on the first and second page. That only works though if you use a word from the post title.

When I do a GW search, especially if I have posted a lot and want to check to see if anyone has asked me a question do a search for "Jodi" and always include the month and year. So my search would look like this: Jodi Jun 09. A search for homemade laundry detergent Jun 09 came up with two hits at the KT.

Thanks again everyone. I think the problem with the search here was that I used the word detergent and should have used soap I guess. Also I couldn't remember who had started the thread so I couldn't put that name in. I wanted to use the recipe here because so many thought the recipe was great. I have learned so much here at KT ((thanks)), diffrent things people will say where did you hear that and I tell them the KT haha!!
