Water still in the yard not quite knee deep. At least out of the house. Jody got TueLo removed...managed to get her with a tow truck and got her placed in the woods across the road from where we live. Still our property. About 50 ft back. Not ideal but all we could do under the circumstances. It is a beautiful spot. When I die they can put me there too.

All animals were happy to see us.

Jody went to the barn. I couldn't stand to go. Hobo was dead but Moses wasn't there. Donkeys are good jumpers. I pray he got out before the current got so strong. I posted on FB in case someone finds him.

The house was totally filthy. However I was told to not clean it up before FEMA gets there.

I feel outwardly calm but every time I went in the house, my heart started racing. I thought I was having a panic attack.

I am not a person to ask for help of any kind and I am humbled by you wanting to do a gofundme.

My rehab partner, Nara, has a friend in Florida and she was going to donate to the Humane Soc. But said she decided she would rather donate to an individual and Nara told her about me. So that was very nice, if she decides to do it.

We had no flood insurance on the house and only liability on the trucks because they were both paid for. My truck is a 2002 and I think Jody's was older.

We couldn't have afforded flood insurance any way. Jody has been in the hospital 4 times and unable to work about 6 months following each operation.

Almost all of my pet food is donated so I don't have that expense and the shelters and rescues that donate to me will make sure I have food for the animals. I am only feeding hay to the horses right now because it is too hard to feed them all in one big pasture. I am super picky about the quality of hay and bought a $38 double bale of coastal for them. The man where I keeping them bought a truck load of hay and it is really crappy. I told him, please don't feed them but went by there today and he had put out hay for them. I know he means well. I had a bale of good hay and wanted to put it out for them, but Jody said I'd probably insult him. I am going to do it this evening any way.

Oh, Marilyn, it's just heart-rending, but I hope Moses is okay. Donkeys are pretty resourceful, so I hope you'll find him safe somewhere.

No, just the gardens yesterday but, there is so many different types of gardens to visit and look at that it took us a few hours to get through most of it. My daughter loved the Japanese garden with all the Koi fish which some were as big as catfish! I was looking at all the different plants and trees that were there. They also had a Herb garden that you can smell and feel all the different herbs-some of them smelled like chocolate! That place is so neat and there are so many different flowers and trees. If we had known up front it was a drug deal, we wouldn't have gone out, we would have called 9-1-1 immediately! No, we thought it was a couple of rednecks beating up a hispanic kid...not unheard of around here. It wasn't until we talked to the kid that we realized it was drug related. In any event, you all are right, it's not a safe thing to do, but DH (and to some degree, me) are not the type to stand back. I disagree about the sending a message...we've managed to keep our neighborhood safe for the families and kids that live here. Our crime rate is low, and it's usually minor issues...someone speeding, minor vandalism, etc. Our neighborhood watch has made it clear that keeping our presence known is important, punks & criminals don't want to mess with nosy neighbors. Plus, our community involvement DOES mean more police presence than in others, ironically enough. Thanks for shaking that young man's hand, Oakley. I tell you, since my son's incarceration, I've had a complete change of insight. He's told me stories of the people there who have no one to believe in them, and those guys have just given up and figured it wouldn't matter if they kept on this path. I think it DOES make a big difference, so maybe, just maybe, we made an impression on these kids. I can only hope so.

I too have a beautiful shepard-husky mix named Ebony who is 14 years old. I looked at your web site a story of Angel and Wolfy. Your wolfy looks so much like my Ebony (Ebby). I talked about putting my girl down 3 weeks ago but didn't/couldn't do it. I would look into her face with her beautiful brown eyes staring back at me and decided it still wasn't time yet. My neighbor would say' don't you think it's time? I thought, sure she is walking a little slower and doesn't eat that well but I don't think it is time yet. I took her to the vets the middle of May and she gave me medicines for her arthritis and also to stimulate her appetite but neither helped much at all. Over the past week and especially since yesterday I now know it is time. She can't stand up for long in one posistion. She has fallen over several times. Prior to that, the past several weeks she has aimlessly walked in circles not knowing what she is doing or where she is going. She has drank some water today but would not eat. She hasn't really eaten very much over the past 2 weeks. Her kidneys have shut down I know ,because she has hardly voided. She doesn't even bark to go outside. She is very listless. I am a hospice nurse. I've seen the same terminal restlessness in my poor Ebby as I have seen many times with my beloved pts. With hospice we have the medicines to help ease the terminal restlessness and the narcotics to ease the pain and/or to help with the shortness of breath. Wouldn't it be great if there were a pet hospice were our beloved pets could die painfree at home with the proper medications and not have to be euthanized. I had to put my cat Purrie down 2 years ago this month. It was very hard but like my Ebony it had to be done. I wouldn't want them to suffer. I hope that I will be okay because I am alreay very sad this week because yesterday was the 1st anniversay of my mothers death from cancer. I don't know why everything has happened in July. I believe that you will know when the time has come for your Wolfy and I pray for you. I am already sick to my stomach and I'm crying rivers knowing what I have to do tomorrow. I wish you the best and hope you will know when it is time so that they will not have to suffer.

Natural Gas Leak in Emergency Shut Off Valve?

Removed old emergency shut off valve and capped the pipe off outside the house. Repressurized the lines inside the house and they held at 15 psi. Replaced the emergency shut off valve and placed it in the off position. Repressurized the guest house lines and everything is holding at 15 psi. I had to get the 1-1/4" valve at a plumbing supply house as Home Depot does not carry them. Moral of the story is these emergency shut off valves can leak internally. As to the question of why I pressurized to 15 psi to test the lines is because most building codes require it or somewhere around this pressure. If it holds at the higher pressure then most likely if will never leak at less than 1 psi. My problem is fixed...I hope this post helps someone else in the future.

I'd really like to help you out to Marilyn. Animals mean absolutely everything to me and to see someone else willing to put them first just means so much to me. I know the pain of losing them too and if there's anything I can do to help make it easier for you to take care of your family just let me know.

I'm so sorry for the animals you lost. I'm at work trying not to cry cos I know how much it hurts. I will be thinking of and praying for you.

I hope so much that Moses got out. I know how much you love your animals and we all here on KT grieve your losses. I'd be having worse than panic attacks if I went thru what you all did. Stay strong and I hope everything can be cleaned up inside your house. We're all thinking of you.

Marilyn, I heard on the news yesterday to go ahead and start cleaning. Take pictures. That is your proof. You don't want mold to set in on things you still have a chance to save. Here is a LINK that says not to wait along with other advice on what to do to get started with FEMA.

I read your posts to my husband. Tried to read them. I started crying three times. I would have been frozen with terror. You and Jody are so brave and selfless. One of my biggest fears is that one of our four cats will get out of the house and get lost. Our animals depend on us for everything, and I have one I bottlefed, too. She is my baby as much as I'm her mama. I'm praying for you, and that your missing donkey shows up okay.

Yes, someone set me straight on cleaning up as quickly as possible. It is such a horrible mess. Jody turned the electric on to the pump (water well) and it started right up. I am going to start washing clothes non stop tomorrow.

Marilyn Lysol has a fairly new product on the market Lysol sanitizer...its basically for laundry that can't be bleached....smells light and fresh. Only problem is it must go in the final rinse and must have a 16 minute contact time. I thought I'd mention it as I understand flood victims are open to many bacterias.

Most people don't understand that horses need better hay than cattle and some others. I think at this point of time I would give them the poor hay, with some of the good stuff( as long as it is not moldy) that way you can keep them full, but also get some of the good stuff they need. That would also let the man not be hurt about his trying to help.

Here is the best info on clean up that I could find. Be sure the bleach is regular, not splashless or scented-only the regular actually disinfects.

As for cleaning, this is what we, as well as the CDC recommend for cleaning:
-Dealing with Flood Water Contamination-

Wear rubber boots, rubber gloves, face mask and goggles during cleanup of affected area if possible.

Remove and discard items that cannot be washed and disinfected (such as, mattresses, carpeting, carpet padding, rugs, upholstered furniture, cosmetics, stuffed animals, baby toys, pillows, foam-rubber items, books, wall coverings, and most paper products).

For contaminated clothing:
First, Wash with Hot Water & Detergent. Doing this will help release what is trapped within the fibers, and help remove most of the contaminants. Then, after the hot wash, follow with a Cold water wash with Detergent & 1/2 cup of Regular Disinfecting Bleach on the longest cycle possible for your machine.

Dishes, and other hard non-porous surfaces:
Dilute bleach 1:10 (or down to 1 cup/gallon with slightly longer soaks) and wipe down surfaces or soak dishes 5-10 minutes.

Soft surfaces:
Lysol disinfecting spray (less effective) or Clorox hydrogen peroxide disinfecting spray (more effective but spot test first).

Anything beyond the typical cleaning requires a professional. Please contact a Water Damage & Mold Remediation company such as ServPro.

My heart aches for what you are having to go through Marilyn. I have not been on here much but when I read about your loses, it made me cry. Growing up from time to time we would get flooded but nothing like you have had. We just went to the upper level and the things in the lower level were put on counter tops or raised and as the water started back down, they just swept the water and mud out the door, otherwise that mud is hard to remove. I know your situation is so much more than what we dealt with. Praying and thinking of you.
