gonna make for my potluck luncheon this coming Monday.

DID NOT like this growing up, but I so enjoy, now, especially, with it being so hot.

MUST HAVE A DOLLOP OF mayo :o)

tomato aspic

1 (3 oz.) pkg. lemon Jello, 2 c. tomato juice, Juice of 1 lemon, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 c. chopped celery, 1 tsp. chopped onion, Sliced stuffed olives I like a dash of hot sauce

PLUS I'm gonna add some baby shrimp cause I want to :o)

/steps

Heat 1 cup tomato juice to dissolve Jello. Add remaining liquid. When partially set, add other ingredients and pour into a small mold.

I don't like tomato juice, olives, tomato soup, tomato aspic.

Aspic may possibly be the only way I DON'T like tomatoes!
Then again I haven't tried it since I was a child and tastes change. I like cooked carrots now and I couldn't eat them as a child. Hope you enjoy your potluck Glenda :)

I tried to return a pair of shoes I bought at Famous Footware originally paid for using my Visa card. The store manager refused to process the credit unless I let her scan the barcode on my drivers license. Store - company policy. Her computer won't let her!!! All returns, exchanges for size - everything - requires the Official Gov't issued pictured ID to be scanned, even if you originally paid cash! I am furious - I have never been in that store before, and won't ever go in there again. I am stuck with these shoes, because I refuse to let them scan the barcode. I spent time finding out if this is leagal - in this state it is - what may be illegal is what is done with the data they capture - like we really know! Between the "secret data" on that drivers license barcode (MVA couldn't tell me all that was on there) and your credit card # and profile - does anyone else see the potential for Identity theft or worse? It is easier to shop online, and becoming safer.

jem -- I thought about some of the typical older home 'faults' you detail when we built new in 2001. We have a 10/12 roof to shed snow -- and to provide a 'second story' for some future owner who wants to add some dormers -- yet the gutters are only nine feet above the ground. (Building such an 'attic' would seem a waste, but our lot is zoned for a 6,000 sq ft home, while we wanted half of that and one story. The taller profile fits better in our neighborhood.) Our north-facing 42" entry door is wood, with sidelights and no storm door, yet it looks like new because it's protected by a roofed six foot deep stoop, with arched openings front and east. We are also a single step above ground level at every entry point. Single story is nice, but you have to get *into* the house easily too. Having endured aluminum-frame windows, I appreciate tight, efficient doors and windows. Casements lock at two points; French doors lock at three. I have to look out to know if a car is driving up to the house; can't hear it. A mistake I made was having a row of French doors on the south with inadequate overhang. I must close the doors if there's any wind with a rain. I bet you could replace your picture windows with same size more efficient ones without alterations. The new glass and frames are *tight*. You would have less re-structuring and painting to do, and wouldn't throw off the exterior symmetry.

Michoumonster, the corbels are 41 1/4" tall, about 7 1/2" deep and 7" wide. I'm not losing any cabinet space because they are supporting a raised granite bar. They're taking up leg/seating space. Well worth it to me. I wanted room to seat three people at the bar and should be able to fit four. Very excited to see things coming together. Especially happy at the moment because I just found a backsplash tile that is less than a 1/3 the price of the tile I was planning on using. Plus it is IN STOCK instead of a three week lead time. Oh happy day! About 8 years ago I experienced a nightmare of a kitchen remodel. An absolute nightmare. I must have paid my dues because my contractor now has been a dream come true. Love everything about him. Great guy, great ideas, patient, totally listens to me and pleasant to have around. We're on schedule, on budget (the budget we agreed to after I busted my original budget lol) and my dog likes him. What more can I ask for. :)

I have a 50's ranch and about the only thing i would change is the layout of the kitchen.I'd like to have a big window in the kitchen with the sink below it,and have the kitchen be one big room instead of kitchen and dinette area.We do have a formal DR though. I don't like the popcorn ceilings either,but like the op said,that's an easy fix. I have and will take shower curtains over shower doors any time,hate the doors,and my shower curtains don't cling.They have magnets on the liner,and the outer curtain is soft and flowy,but not into the tub. I'm so glad when we got this house,that we got a ranch and not a 2 story,they're (2 story or more) aare the pits as we age. I need and have garden space also,so you may want to consider the yard size. We have 1 bathroom also and it's served us well all these 46 years with the 4 kids and others. Don't get wrapped up in the unecessary things,look for good bones,and keep in mind what it is you want,cosmetics VS needs etc. Good luck Kathi

I developed a taste for it in my 40's. Cafeteria used to have it weekly and I would always get it and eat with crackers. Cafeteria has long been closed.

Funny--I was just thinking about you and aspic :-) I was looking through a cookbook for salad ideas and came across several aspics. The one I was thinking of making doesn't sound nearly as good as yours. It called for tomato juice, plain gelatin, lemon juice, celery, bell pepper and olives, salt and red pepper to taste. Let us know how it turned out. It sounds cool and refreshing and something different from the same old, same old.

patti, mother used to make it for her "parties" and the one I found seems closest to hers. I don't want bell papper in mine, but I do enjoy chopped green olives.

I've never had it, but it doesn't sound horrible! LOL
By that I mean I like all ingredients, but never ate this. I'd try it for sure if I had a chance. But let me try it without the shrimp the first time.

My Mom used to make us tomato aspic with celery and canned drained shrimp. Thaks for the memory! I like it!

I am not crazy about it ...something about the "aspic" I don't really like gazpacho either and everyone I know loves it.......I don't hate it, just always think how much better it would be if someone cooked the rawness out.

I bought a small pkg of shrimp and crab meat. won't use it all.

friend always brings Costco shrimp salad, and won't be at the luncheon, so I'm gonna make up for the missed shrimp :o)

think it will be a good combination

Love it! I use my mother's recipe.. boil celery, onion, 5 cloves, 1 bayleaf, lemon juice, dash of tabasco and worchestershire with tomato (or V8) juice, strain it, toss cooked veggies, and mix seasoned juice with plain gelatin. Sometimes she added artichoke hearts or avocado when it was partially set. Like Glenda said, you've gotta serve it with a dollop of mayo. I have to add a caper or three on top of the mayo.
