Who do you go to for eye care?

Sally Brownlee

I have been putting off going to the eye doctor for quite some time now.

And although I had in the past (15 yrs ago) gone to a local, private practice optometristthis time I was/am seriously considering a "big box" eye store. (Eyeland, Lenscrafters, Pearl Vision, etc). I do not have eye insurance

2 weeks ago, my 76 YO mother took a nasty fall. She hit her head and really mangled her glasses. While I was in the quick care waiting room, Dad came out holding her glasses and asked me to see what I can do about them. (she really needs them to see).

So at 4:30 in the afternoon I ran up to their doctors office, and the technician stopped what she was doingfound a pair of frames to fit her lenses, and somehow managed to shape them to the old ones. She immediately ordered new frames (came in 2 days later).
ButI left with replacements in hand that my mom could wear that night.
The tech never questioned who I was or asked for any money. She KNEW my parents.and that was good enough for her.

So I was curious.do you go to a big name eye care, or a private practice?
Do you get the level of care and service you want or need?

Is it worth it (like story above) to pay a private practice for the extra attention?

Are the quality of lenses and frames better at private practice?
