I did the speed test on my computer...need help interpreting

My download speed is 1.30 Kbps Barely in the green.

My upload speed is 314 Kbps Barely in the yellow.

We do not have a great service provider. On holidays, Sat. mornings and Sunday, our service will go down and will take awhile to come back up. But, we live in a rural area so could that be the problem? Or is it my computer?

This speed test address was provided on another thread here, but did not want to steal someones thread by asking these questions. Anyone know the reasons my computer is so slow? It is a new computer with good memory, or so we were told. Have had it since Dec. Thanks to anyone who can help me. My computer is a HP.

I clicked on your link which showed a bandwidth/internet speed test meaning the speed of your internet connection not your computer. It also showed a scale to help you interpret how your speed compares with what would be expected in a residential vs. business environment. If it's in the needs help category it's slow and so on.

Generally when any kind of a red, yellow, green scale is used green means good, yellow means so-so, red means poor.

Download is when you bring things from the internet to your computer such as streaming a you tube video adn upload is when you bring from your computer to an internet site - such as uploading photos to a photo site. Residential ISPs usually offer faster download speeds.

I'm not sure if this will help, but it might, so here goes. Not all metals found in soil are toxic. Here in Wisconsin, our native soil is high in iron and aluminum. We also have high levels of calcium and magnesium. There is a lot of limestone around here. Potassium and phosphorous are both metals, found in fertilizer. There are certain metals that are toxic, even in small amounts, and this list includes lead, mercury, and cadmium. There are several metals that are essential nutrients to certain plants, but toxic if present in high concentration, and this list includes copper, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, cobalt and vanadium. It helps to know the pH of the soil. Soils that are high in pH, 7.5 and up, tend to hold onto metals. Soils with a pH of 6.5 or below tend to release metals into solution, where they can be taken up by plant roots. This is a huge subject, and I'm sure that others will add more information.

There's often some variation in water hardness, as it is blended from differing sources, or as seasons and rainfall change. I'm inclined to trust your water district's numbers over a cheap and perhaps "stale" paper test strip. Two things confuse me: In your photo, the test strip is placed vertically; I'm guessing what you label the rightmost (darkest) square is the bottom one. Also, water hardness is sometimes given in grains/gallon (when it is higher), or in either milligrams/liter (or, equivalently, PPM). I'm not sure what "grams/gallon" means, exactly, in those terms; but since this will make a difference in your setting, its important to know. You might show the strip to the seller of your dishwasher; presumably others have taken these strips in and I'm guessing everyone in your area has water of similar hardness. Failing that, I'd rely on the 8-10 grains(?) measure from the people at your water district, and set the dishwasher for that level of hardness. The only one of these strips I've used was for a coffee machine; it didn't show anything at all, so I used our local water board's hardness estimate, which is very low.

My apologies. It was me, a very busy week, and 10 cubic yards of mulch on top of it. For folks who see this and have tests, I'll be catching up over the next day or two--if I miss you, send me mail. ME 15-ish: A nice soil, probably very silty, which is great. It holds lots of resources, but isn't hard to add to when we need to. pH 7.7: High, but there's not much you can do about it--and you don't need to. Grass won't object to this. OM 2.6%: Kind of low, but your ME is already quite high. I'd always mulch mow, but otherwise not do anything special to raise this. Sulfur 14: Normal. Phosphorus 99: A little low (lower than it looks due to the depth of sampling, actually). We use standard starter fertilizer (like 20-27-5 or 18-24-6) to fix this. Details below. Calcium 73.5%: Very high, but not a problem (which is good as you can't easily change this). None required or desired. Magnesium 21.1%: Very high, which might make your soil tight and hard to dig. We can't change it, so we live with it--but avoid all magnesium sources, which is generally pretty easy (no cheap lime or Epsom salt, in other words). Potassium: 1.0%: Not quite as bad as it looks, but I'd adjust this. We use potassium sulfate, which you can purchase at many garden or landscape stores, or they can order it for you. Minor Elements: Most are fine, but I did mention iron and boron below. Boron 0.29: Very low. We use Milorganite as a carrier and 20 Mule Team Borax as the boron source. You can purchase 20 Mules at the grocery store in the laundry section. In a wheelbarrow or the like, dump the Milo. Spraying very, very lightly with water (I use a spray bottle like the kind people use to damp their clothes when they iron) will help the boron stick. Add the recommended amount of 20 Mule Team Borax and stir, spraying occasionally to get the stuff to stick to the Milo. Then apply over the recommended area. So if going for bag rate Milorganite (1 bag per 2,500 square feet), you'd add 10 tablespoons of 20 Mule Team Borax. Iron 170: Fine, but it won't produce great color at your pH. Whenever you want, apply Milorganite to slowly raise this. Recommendations: April 15: Apply 4 tablespoons (not a misprint!) of 20 Mule Team Borax per thousand square feet. May 1: Apply 3 pounds per thousand square feet of potassium sulfate. Memorial Day: Apply starter fertilizer at bag rate. June 15: Apply 3 pounds per thousand square feet of potassium sulfate. Labor Day: Apply starter fertilizer at bag rate. October 1: Apply starter fertilizer at bag rate. October 15: Apply 3 pounds per thousand square feet of potassium sulfate.

It really depends on what speed you 'should' be getting, ie what speed you are paying to get.

What is available to me is through towers and the local electric company and what I am paying for is Up To 512kbps I just tested mine at that site ( had posted the link) and see I am getting
523 kbps download and
429 kbps upload.

The magic words here are 'up to' and I can't and don't expect to get the maximum very often. Sometimes it will slow though to 100 - 150 kbps, or less and that's when I give them a call and they usually do something like 'reset' the tower...they sort of explained it to me as being comparable to computers regularly slowing and needing defragging.

I'm confused that you got 1.3Kbps...was it maybe 1.3Mb?...or 1.300 kbps?

Do you know what speed you are supposed to be getting...like up to what max speed?

I would test several times during various times of the day to get an average of those. There are a few sites I like to test at.

Our service is through our telephone company. It is not dial up. I would hate to think it would get any slower than this. Thanks all I will give this info to my son who works for a computer company. He is coming for the 4th and he always check out our computer.

Well what I had 'meant' to post above was 1,300 or 1300kbps.

Thanks all I will give this info to my son who works for a computer company.
He won't be able to say there is a problem with the download and upload speeds unless he knows just what speed of service you are paying for. Does your phone bill show the speed you are 'supposed' to be getting?
