I live in LA, 550 miles north lives one of my sons with 2 grand children. San Francisco is 2/3 the way up. Once every two month the 'Pleurothallis Alliance' meets Sat midday in SF. I go to their meeting, then head north to spend the rest of the weekend with my family. At their meeting I get to hear the opinions of some of the best cool growers in the US. Only one of them flushes after watering, most think of it as unnecessary. One comment was that this method duplicates what happens in nature as, at the beginning of a period of rain, the nutrients are brought to the plants initially, then the plants get flushed with nutrient free rain water. I guess the only way to find out is to run a one year study which I am planning to set up one of these days. For nearly 2 month now I have had identical twin plants in SM vs redwood chips and for my type of watering, the redwood chips seem to work a little better. Need to do something similar with the flush concept. There are 2 benches on either side of an aisle. Could flush one side only and set up a group of 'identical twins', one on each side, then compare their growth in a year. Since the light, air movement, even temperature is not exactly the same on each side one would have to flip them after a year and see if the findings hold on both sides of the isle. They should do something similar with the boneheads we have in congress. Should be obvious that I'm retired with plenty of time on my hands. Love it! Nick

If you're referring to Robyn's offer to be a surrogate mother?.... nothing was mentioned at all about that. Good heavens I don't know why they would even consider it... they mentioned that Kody is father to like... 17?... kids already! I don't know if that includes Robyn's first 3 or not, but still.... That's a lotta kids!! So last night they showed this swanky new convertible that Kody got as a bonus for some marketing (?) he did. They called it the perfect "date car". Kody took each of his wives on a date. Meri skiing, Jonelle hiking @ Red Rock Canyon, Christine paint balling & a helicopter ride, Robyn dinner & a movie. Each date they reminisced about how they met/married. He & Meri were only like 20 & 19 when they married (or was it met?) & discussed having plural wives even when they were engaged. They've been married 22 yrs. They talked about Christine & Kody having some issues, & C is probably somewhat jealous of Robyn. And it is not easy being a sister wife,,,, it's hard... blah, blah. TLC must be paying them a mint? I'm not sure Kody has a real "job" but they make reference to "some of their ventures".... But to keep 4 houses & all those kids & now be talking about buying land & building 4 houses close to each other... surely must take a LOT of coin?

coffeemom!!! LOL Good one! I watched the show. I love to see how different people live their lives. I think firemans wife had a good term "morbid curiousity"! Frankly, despite their "weird" situation, they mostly seemed happy. Are the wives fooling themselves? Probably? What will all those kids grow up to become?? Who knows? There seemed to be an inordinate number of girl children in that family or maybe it's because there is really only 1 older boy, who seemed to shoulder a BIG responsibility, taking care of all his siblings, because his mom worked all day 6am-7pm. So she works, the husband works. Thought the 3 different apartments in the house was an interesting idea. Wonder where #4 will go?? 2 of the 3 women grew up in polygamist (sp?) families, so it probably seems "normal" to them. Had to laugh when they said "having the one husband spend time with the other wives a few nights a week, really frees up time for me!" But how could there not be jealousy of knowing your hubby is sleeping with other women each night? In this particular case, it's not a dirty old man preying on young teen girls. He did seem like he was on uppers the way he was bouncing around all the time. The husband is around 40's and the 3 wives are just 2-3 years younger and it sounded like they all met when they were 19-20s. His 4th wife is in her 30's. Guess it's the perfect life for him? They don't "appear" to be in a cult like the families that were found in Texas. They weren't wearing the amish-like outfits. They seemed fairly normal. If you can call that normal. The kids were homeschooled then went to a "church" school where everyone has multiple wives. Weird, but I'll probably watch another episode, until the morbid curiousity is gone!

That was one crowded house, filled with women and children. I would go nuts surrounded by that many people all day and all night. And the husband still had the energy to cheat on them with a hooker, and flirt on-line, looking for more? Ick. Those woman had misplaced loyalties, for sure. It's so odd to think that this kind of thing really does happen. That husband shot the wrong guy. He should have been aiming at the mastermind, the "prophet". What a hypocrite he was. "Do what I say or I'll kill your loved one." Nice.
