File a police report and call your insurance agent. It's going to be a comprehensive claim, won't generally (depending on the company) affect your rates. Comprehensive deductibles are generally lower, atleast that's the way I suuggest them.

I'm so sorry Dotmom, what a pain. I wonder if it was the folks you had the pain pill issue with a couple months back?
Our local NBC affiliate does a Try It Thursday and they tested that product. It seemed to work on surface scratches that did not get thru to the base metal but it had to be used on a cool surface out of direct sunlight.

Dot, don't be too quick to blame building residents. Depending on the security of your parking, it could have been some random person just wandering around making trouble. So sorry and hope you can get it fixed without too much expense or inconvenience.

I guess I didn't think of filing a police report. As for the pill indecent, that gal did cross my mind, but i had put it behind me, and have had occasions where she and I have had civil conversations. Our Apt Bldg isn't in an area where people would be just randomly walking around I haven't spoken to any other resident, just Hubs and I don't intend to. It is sad, to me because my car, I call her Lucy, is a tomato red 1989 Dodge Colt in incredible condition, inside and out. The guy who does my detailing, always asks to buy it. I know it is silly, but I really like my car, it serves our purpose so well. I'll probably never know who ir why someone did this, but I will get Lucy's booboo fixed.

Sad to say, but sometimes when that happens, if you say nothing, someone will spill the beans, usually to someone else in the area. That would irritate me too.

I had a scratch on my 2 month old cardand the dealer was able to buff it out and reapply the top clear coat. It was under $100. Luckily it didn't go to the metal.

I would ask the guy who does your detailing what he thinks. As for claiming it on your insurance talk to your agent first before making a claim to see what they say.

Are you sure it wasn't there when you left the hospital? The problem with things like this is people walking next to a vehicle will rub with purses, keys clipped to the belt, strollers, carts, briefcases, backpacks, wheelchairs and any number of things. My poor van is getting more than its share of dings from parking lots. It's too bad when you have a vehicle in good shape and this stuff happens. Some are so oblivious to their surroundings they don't even know that they did it.

The police could take a report but it's only going to be a file it to make the complainant happy since there's not much they can do. Problem is you really can't prove when and where it happened so short of someone admitting they did it, it'll be like any number of other vandalism hits. And before calling your agent, check to see what it'd cost to fix to see if it's worth it considering the deductible.

Last summer all the cars in the underground parking had to park outside because of high-pressure washing the underground.
3 cars were keyed! They were parked behind one another and it's thought that the kids going to school, just keyed them walking by.

Patti43, No It couldn't have been him. He is still gone. No one knows where the police took him, but he has been gone a week now. I wish I could post a picture, because it is hard to describe the marks. Like I said they are in the area where someones hand would be if the just hung their arm down, then just using their wrist, scratch the door. The marks are a lot of W's, like they just scratched up and down. I'll see what I can find at Walmart tomorrow, I have to make a stop there on my way to the town we used to live, to see some friends.

That "W" stuff is no accident, no "ding" or scratch from a too-close car door. Disgusting behavior. Sometimes people are jealous of other people's nice-looking cars.
