It looks like my car door..........

has been keyed. It is on the drivers side door, about the height of someone standing or walking by with a key or something in a hand hanging down along side of them, then they just used their wrist to move the scratching thing, up and down as they walked by. The last time I used the car was Friday evening when I went to visit a friend at the Hosp. It wasn't there then. This morning I took it to our car guy, for him to give it the once over...oil, water, fluid, as I am going to be driving it over a hundred miles tomorrow and wanted all to be OK. He took a look at the scratches and he too thought it was keyed. So it had to be someone who lives in our BLDG and I can't figure out who it would be and why. I've seen an, As Seen On TV, item for scratches on cars, and will ask in the auto dept. at Walmart tomorrow. Any suggestions from any of my KT friends?

File a police report and call your insurance agent. It's going to be a comprehensive claim, won't generally (depending on the company) affect your rates. Comprehensive deductibles are generally lower, atleast that's the way I suuggest them.

I'm so sorry Dotmom, what a pain. I wonder if it was the folks you had the pain pill issue with a couple months back?
Our local NBC affiliate does a Try It Thursday and they tested that product. It seemed to work on surface scratches that did not get thru to the base metal but it had to be used on a cool surface out of direct sunlight.

Sorry I see things different than you but then I was only going by several post you wrote. I don't doubt you run in to racism, in fact I see racism happening too damn often. I just found it sad that you seem to blame any negitive (or what you perceive as negitive)action toward you on someone being racist. The Apt living forum is full of posts complaining about rude and nasty neighbors. When you live in Apts you have a good chance of sharing your living space with creeps,idiots or some form of low lifes.These type of people bother everyone around them. You seem to think you are picked out because of your race first and always. I am not saying it hasn't happened, I am sure it has. After reading so many of your posts screaming racism I started seeing a pattern. Then when you wrote in asking if you had made a big mistake bringing up that your husband traveled to Cuba often. You made it sound as if saying such a thing was a big NO NO, living here? As if the average person in the US would have a problem with that? I can tell you that the average American could care less where you or your family travels.You seem to be first to seperate yourself as being different with anyone you come in contact with and if things don't go smoothly your first reaction is to blame "race" Your race, their race. People have run in's with weirdo's everyday as they go through life and race has nothing to do with it. Believe me you don't have to be of another race to be treated wrong by others. ***SIGH*** I hear you! Where I "used" to live in PA,we could go away for a week and let the door unlocked.Here...we had to put up locked gates because the freaks back the alley have teenagers that think it's ok to walk in my carport and take...my lawnmower and our tools when they need money.We learned the hard way that this isn't our small hometown....now we lock everything up.Wonder what the kids back the alley are doing for money these days? Brats! Then they come past and say"good Evening" real sweet! Grrrrr! The neighbor saw them taking my stuff ,I should have called the cops but he wasn't SURE which kid it was.There are about 5 of them back there.More on any given day. Cops are always back there.Only bad family on our street! (Of course there's only 5 houses here counting the one on the corner.)

Don'T do that since as you say you are not good at it. Just be sure to send a request for a price quote to two or three others (competitors) letting them have all the same information in writing. Then you'll get responses, which are a firm basis of facts from which you will take a non emotional next step. This is good for all regardless of anyone's perceived and self-described ability to haggle. Good hagglers can be had. It also ensures that what you thought you were buying is more likely to be what they tell you a month later was included in their quote. A thousand little things that they can or cannot charge you for... How many times have you bought this kind of thing? Never before? Just like every other buyer in this market. Or almost. So, I'm just back from HD where I was totally shut down. HD: Can't do anything for you. Contact the company. Me: Do you have their number? HD: No. Look it up online. Me: Do you think there is anywhere else in the city that I could buy garage door hardware? HD: No. Me: Don't you think they look like giant ...? HD: No. Okay, I made up that last line of dialogue, but I'm sure that would have been his response if I had asked. I am so personable that I get a bit hurt when someone completely ignores my charms. I might just try back tomorrow and see if someone else is working or go to another HD. Not a total loss though as he taught me a new strategy for dealing with people I want to get rid of - I think I'll call it, "The Deadpan No".

Dot, don't be too quick to blame building residents. Depending on the security of your parking, it could have been some random person just wandering around making trouble. So sorry and hope you can get it fixed without too much expense or inconvenience.

I guess I didn't think of filing a police report. As for the pill indecent, that gal did cross my mind, but i had put it behind me, and have had occasions where she and I have had civil conversations. Our Apt Bldg isn't in an area where people would be just randomly walking around I haven't spoken to any other resident, just Hubs and I don't intend to. It is sad, to me because my car, I call her Lucy, is a tomato red 1989 Dodge Colt in incredible condition, inside and out. The guy who does my detailing, always asks to buy it. I know it is silly, but I really like my car, it serves our purpose so well. I'll probably never know who ir why someone did this, but I will get Lucy's booboo fixed.

Sad to say, but sometimes when that happens, if you say nothing, someone will spill the beans, usually to someone else in the area. That would irritate me too.

I had a scratch on my 2 month old cardand the dealer was able to buff it out and reapply the top clear coat. It was under $100. Luckily it didn't go to the metal.

I would ask the guy who does your detailing what he thinks. As for claiming it on your insurance talk to your agent first before making a claim to see what they say.

Are you sure it wasn't there when you left the hospital? The problem with things like this is people walking next to a vehicle will rub with purses, keys clipped to the belt, strollers, carts, briefcases, backpacks, wheelchairs and any number of things. My poor van is getting more than its share of dings from parking lots. It's too bad when you have a vehicle in good shape and this stuff happens. Some are so oblivious to their surroundings they don't even know that they did it.

The police could take a report but it's only going to be a file it to make the complainant happy since there's not much they can do. Problem is you really can't prove when and where it happened so short of someone admitting they did it, it'll be like any number of other vandalism hits. And before calling your agent, check to see what it'd cost to fix to see if it's worth it considering the deductible.

Have a safe and happy trip. Much nicer weather for traveling now.

Last summer all the cars in the underground parking had to park outside because of high-pressure washing the underground.
3 cars were keyed! They were parked behind one another and it's thought that the kids going to school, just keyed them walking by.

Patti43, No It couldn't have been him. He is still gone. No one knows where the police took him, but he has been gone a week now. I wish I could post a picture, because it is hard to describe the marks. Like I said they are in the area where someones hand would be if the just hung their arm down, then just using their wrist, scratch the door. The marks are a lot of W's, like they just scratched up and down. I'll see what I can find at Walmart tomorrow, I have to make a stop there on my way to the town we used to live, to see some friends.

That "W" stuff is no accident, no "ding" or scratch from a too-close car door. Disgusting behavior. Sometimes people are jealous of other people's nice-looking cars.

So sorry that happened to you, and I hope it doesn't cost you big bucks or a lot of time to get your car back to normal.
