Greetings, everyone, from the Prairies.

I enjoyed my Mom's family reunion over the weekend, including visit with my daughter, who flew up from AZ.

I am planning to travel to Saskatoon and Edmonton just now and wonder whether it would be possible for us to get together?

I would like to send a message to Danielle H AB, should she not see this but don't have an address and haven't seen a post from her for a time, so would appreciate it if you can help me find a link.

Hi Ed, I'm glad the family reunion turned out well and that you had a good time and a chance to spend time with your daughter.
It was great to see those pictures of you last week.

I did a search for Danielle's name and found a post from May when her grandfather passed away. Here's a link to her " my page ". I hope the e-mail will go through for you from that link.

Yep..it's a great course. Both DH and I take the course every 2 years so that we can get the discount and because it helps us keep up with the ever-changing "rules of the road". It's a nominal fee and you can take the course over 1 or 2 days (2 four-hour days or 1 eight-hour day).

Hi Jannie, If one of your daughters, at age 15, invests One Whole Dollar ... ... and manages to have it earn 5% rate of return throughout ... ... through 50 years of time ... ... when she hits the ripe old age of 65 ... that dollar will have multiplied 2-1/2 times - it'll be worth $11.00 and change. If she can manage a 10% return, it'll grow to $117.00 and change. No allowance in either case for the erosion of annual income by income tax, and of the value of one's dollar-denominated assets due to inflation. And when she buys a pack of cigarettes - she pays a lot more than a Buck for each one of them. Most of which goes up in smoke - though some stays in her lungs. And the residue can cause a lot of trouble. Can she imagine what people would think of her were she to stand on a main street corner in town and set on fire as many dollars as she spent on smokes that week? And do that at that street corner - every week? People would say that she was nuts. But - that would do her a lot less harm than using those dollars to buy smokes. Trouble is, though - in the U.S., I think that she'd go to jail: it's a Federal offence to destroy money, as it is Federal property. I do hope that your daughters decide that it is a destructive habit - and one of the worst addictions. I don't want to be a slave to a person - much less to a white paper tube filled with dead leaves!! That sounds some stupid, to me. Hi Lindy Lu Who ... ... well, a WA-HO-O-O (not a boo-hoo) about that one! Thank you for making such a wonderful addition to this discussion! I have some Hanes ... and they're blue, too! But ... I've never seen them configured like that! Or ... so occupied, either, for that matter. Also, with elastic still intact - so they're not available for this purpose. Yet. Isn't this a wonderful idea? No more worries about the shortcomings (or, more accurately, long goings) of the elastic: in fact, if it were even somewhat tight, it might cause a problem. If any of you would like to use my old undies in such a fashion, I'd be glad to spring for the postage, even trans-border, to help the ancient briefs find some useful things to do throughout their retirement! Or, more accurately, delay their retirement! I can guaratee that I'll not send holey ones ... and you don't need to worry about the "baggy" that someone referred to, as the only part that's stretched is the elastic (possibly due to not having large body parts to ride herd on). And no stained or dirty ones, either ... solely ones that look to be only in slightly used condition. Then, with these still-useful things having their remaining useful life taken care of, I can go buy new ones with a happy heart!! Adding it as an extra errand when going to town to take care of several needs at a time ... ... and turning off the engine and coasting downhill, and as approaching signal lights when they turn yellow, half a block away ... to be passed by people pushing the gas pedal ... then hitting the brakes about a hundred feet before the "Stop" line. I staked a couple of rows of peas and picked some of the regular and of the edible pod kind. Took them to a nighbour who treats me well, and their daughter and SIL were there, playing cards. Daughter loves peas, I gave her several of the edible pod kind ... and she shelled them and ate them. En route home, I thought that I should have taken the edible pod ones back and given her some of the regular kind ... if she was going to shell them, anyway. Had some of each kind for supper - second picking - delicious! I hope that you had an enjoyable weekend ... and are looking forward to the coming week with anticipation. ole joyful

Just spent part of the afternoon arranging with stockbroker to make a gift of stocks that have gone up in value to a major charity, to distribute to a number of others. When I cash the stock, put the proceeds in the bank and write cheques to the charities, come tax time I have to deduct the purchase price from the sale price and pay income tax at regular rate on half of the difference. But when I donate them to a charity, I avoid paying income tax on the capital gain. For the past couple of years I've been able to avoid federal income tax ... largely by gifts to charities, churches and making political contributions. We had both federal and provincial elections last year, so larger political contributions, and larger charitable contributions, helped avoid tax on an increase in income, last year. I like them apples better! ole joyful.

Oh Oh YAY! I was just wondering how I was going to get a hold of you Ed! I saw the other day on here that you were coming here and I was sad because I was sure I'd miss you! Please send me an email and I'll do my best to make sure that we can meet. :) Let me make sure that my email address is changed on here now! LOL

Hi Danielle,

I followed Linda's link before I read all of the messages, and just sent you a message through it.

I'll be going through the Rosetown area after midnight, through North Battleford, but want to meet someone in Alberta on the southern route on my return, so it would be easier to come to Rosetown via that way - probably Thursday, possibly Friday.

I think that a friend from my days in Korea has moved, following the death of her husband, and don't know where she is now, but think that I can find it from her daughter in Edmonton.

Good wishes and hoping that we can meet.

I had a lovely meeting with Caroline and Wes near Grand Forks last Fri. ... haven't seen her report ... but they say that there are pictures.

Quite a few have been wondering what old joyful looked like ... well, now you know (I assume).

Had a slight fender-bender in the early morning of Wed. at Lloydminster, an oil town on the Sask.-Alberta border - a van made a slight scrape on the front of the car while I was feeding my face ... pulling the bumper partly off, but it's stable and not a lot of damage.

Had a good visit with sis-in-law and nurse niece (plus nephew that was at the reunion) in Edmonton, now bound back toward my brother's near Regina
via a more southerly route, am to visit former colleague from Korea days in seniors' home in the village where she's sold her house, then back into Saskatchewan to visit Danielle and family.

Had better get moving, so that I can see them after her driving lesson ...

... and before I deprive them of too much beauty sleep.

P.S. Danielle not only told me where to go ...

... but how to get there!

Lots of people tell us where to go ... but few give directions (maybe they haven't been over that road themselves).
