Door Draftstoppers I've been making

I've started on my Christmas gifts for our family and for a start decided to make each of the grandkids and our daughter a door draftstopper, since they live up north. They are standard door size, 36 inches, and inside is a swimming pool foam noodle cut to length.

Then because I always spoil my daughter the most, she also gets a "special" one. This one is stuffed with polyfill.

Those are cute Linda. I used to use some, but the dogs thought they were play toys so I put them away.

I managed to get the side panels and the panels on both sides of the doors back into place early this afternoon, before we left for the MIL's. Also discovered today that the middle piece above the door (the 3 that form the pitch) blew out too, and I have yet to find it. Tonight after we got home, I came back to find one of the side panels had stripped out the tape I used and was hanging by a screw at the bottom, and the front door side panels were loose again too. So in the dark I repaired the back 3 upper pieces, with them out the vents were popping up even with them taped. I was able to straighten out the vertical frame piece (the one the connects together to fit those pieces in) and reattach the bolts/nuts, then I duct taped them to the frame!!! I only wish I could have gotten to the inside area too (big heavy 4 shelve bench in front of that wall)...I would have reinforced more from the inside too. But I think it's going to hold up. Blocking that wind should keep the rest from popping back out again. UGH... Well I will tell you this makes me re-think the reinforcement issues...and all the while when building this thing, I was thinking of cosmetic/asthetics...well that's out the door, I'll duct tape the whole darn thing if I need too ;) The areas that were affected were in my opinion the most poorly designed and I knew this and could easily see this as it was going up...And We INTENDED to put up EMT across the back wall, but didn't get around to it. and the section at the top of the door level those side panels, like I said before, have nothing for the top of the panel to adhere to no clips can fit there, nothing. as soon as the back or side panels blew, those 2 were easy targets. So I"m thinking, we screwed these all into the frame but why not also glue them into place? I'd even consider some kind of a mitered frame to fit each panel section. That actually might be the easiest (and the best looks wise). I'm going to explore that and see what can be done. A wood frame to fit on the edge of the entire panel, screwed into the metal frame.....any thoughts on that idea????

Went to the ER and it is broke. Doctor was very nice and told me I did the right thing attempting to tape them together. X-ray showed it is broke and because of where the break is the doctor wants me to wear one of those lovely "shoes" for a couple weeks. That way my foot will sit right and hopefully the break will heal properly. They all know me in the ER and know what I am dealing with so all were very nice and got me taken care of right away. Now, on the way in the door of the ER my dad stepped the wrong way and pulled a muscle in his calf! I ran in to a PT guy we know and he said that if it continues to bother him I should get him checked out because of his age but more than likely it is just a pull so he showed me some exercises he can do to make it better. Dear Lord I hope this is it for a while! We did go see mom and she is being released back to the nursing home today. The doctor called me this morning and said her liver and kidney functions, still has "rattle" in her chest but that is better also. She looks and sounds much better. Doctor said he thinks some of the throwing up comes from her shoving too much food in her mouth at one time, so he is ordering speech therapy to work with her more at the home so she gets in the habit of smaller bites. Dad and I just came home as there was no need for us to sit there and wait for transport for her. Mom was not too happy but that is just too bad, my toe hurts right now and is all swollen. I know in a day or so it will not be so tender but right now I am going to baby ME! How's that for a self centered attitude? LOL!

Here's what I would do w/them. Can't quite get a feeling for this flue tile yet, so have drawn out the diamond shapes. I was thinking of filling it in w/mirror, then putting a big flower in each of the negative corners, and filling in w/high-contrast shards, but that's not what REALLY strikes my fancy right now, so I'm gonna take a rest/nap maybe to "dream" up an idea. Something like those glass flowers w/be great for those negative spaces outside the diamonds. Why don't you build yourself a column and put them in it, for a really cool 3-D piece?

Pleasant looking room. Liking all the natural light potential. You might consider wood or faux wood vertical blinds for the window wall. Would add more wood vibe to the room and offer more options for light and privacy control . https://www.blindster.com/vertical-blinds/faux-wood-vertical-blinds/ Plants give a farmhouse vibe. You'd have more room for plants if your loveseat were not backed up to the window -- not just plant shelf/stand sitting on the floor but brackets with hanging baskets of the plants you really like that will get enough sunlight from your windows. Having your loveseats facing one another set at each long end of the rug with only a table and lamp between the one side and the exterior wall would be worth trying ... setting the front feet of the loveseats on the edge of the rug. If you draw, to scale, on graph paper the size/shape of the room with all its fixed features (windows, doors, fireplace, etc.) indicated, you can draw and cut out the size/shape of the furnishings you have and and see what works without moving the actual furniture. Taller thinner wood or metal post table lamps with medium/large white shades could help lighten the room ... and have a less formal vibe than the ones you are now using. An "industrial" style could work.

Now to figure out HOW I am going to mail all of these up to Michigan. I was told that UPS carries large tubes. I hope they have ones these will fit in or I will have to make my own box of some kind.

These tubes can also be made using the foam pipe insulators but they are skinnier and I wanted fatter tubes. Luckily our dog won't bother them but our daughter's dogs might. Hope not.

Could I ask how you finished the ends of them? They look very neat. Was the snowman your own pattern? Cute idea.

Donner, I folded in the ends of the material and then gathered like you would when making a yo yo.

Yes, I made my own snowman pattern on newspaper sheets taped together to get the 36 inch length, then folded in half, drawing half of my snowman. I wanted the bottom long parts to be at least 3 inches tall.

They have long mailing tubes for mailing plans, etc.

Thanks Sheila, that is what I heard. I will get to UPS and another mail place I was told about to see what is available.

Donner, you are most welcome. I cut my material at 9 and a half inches wide to allow for a half inch seam if that helps and my material was 40 inches in length, allowing me plenty of material at both ends of the 36 inch noodle to tuck in before gathering.

A couple of years ago, I saw a draft stopper advertised in a gadget catalog. It had the face of Bill Clinton on one end and was named, "draft dodger". LOL. Too bad you can't use this idea; its probably copyrighted,
