I for one am glad this week is coming to an end. Plus it's a celebration weekend!! Not that I'll be doing anything with any "Sparks" to it! LOL Gonna take Shultz to the barber shop in the am, then visit the library. Sunday he and I will be home alone, as daughter and granddaughter have plans that don't include us. Oh well, maybe we can just hang-out and enjoy the quiet. Did I say quiet? Prolly won't be too much of that with firecrackers going off. What are your weekend plans?

Tomorrow's the start of my work week. ) : Have to go grocery shopping and guess I'll just go to Wal-Mart so I can try and find some earplugs so I can sleep.

DD and family were going to try to get up but DSIL has to work, as usual. :-( So it'll just be us. Don't plan to fight the crowds for the fireworks so I'll probably do something on the grill sometime this weekend. We've finally been getting rain, for which I'm grateful.

So far, we're all having quiet weekends. Hope somebody posts something fun. LOL!

Pea soup and ham sounds good, but I've been eating a lot of soup lately, as I have been under the weather since Wednesday of last week, which is why I did not post under TGIF last week. I'm much better now, probably at 95%, but I will still take it easy this week-end. It's gotten cool here (mid 60s) and I think we may have had rain last night, which might happen again this week-end, which would be wonderful. If I'm up to it, I will make tamales. I found corn husks at Sprout's, but they cost $5, which I found to be expensive. Last Saturday (when I should have stayed home), we went to what I thought was a Von's close to our house, but it is now a dollar (or 99 cent) store, and I guess corn husks are too expensive for them to carry! Before that we went to a grocery/liquor store that is even closer to our house, and its doors had been chained, as it is going through a change of ownership. The large recycling center in its parking lot was still open, however, but that was all that was going on. Kevin said that he had seen people who collect bottles and cans get vouchers for what they had collected and then used those vouchers to buy lottery tickets! I think they should have given them food stamps instead. There are too many dollar stores now, I think. The fruit and vegetable market that we used to go to is also now a dollar store. I will say that the dollar store that used to be a Von's is much cleaner than the Von's was, and I did not shop at the Von's because it was not very nice. It would be nice if a dollar store would reopen as a vegetable market. Maybe I'll make pizzas this week-end and put some of my Roma tomatoes on them. I've been mostly avoiding cheese while I was sick, as I think it makes congestion worse. I think I'll be fully recovered by tomorrow. I want to make something besides soup. I did make some very good cabbage soup while I was sick, and it was quick and easy and much better than I expected, although it did not have much of a cabbage flavor. I had Kimchee flavored soup yesterday. I turn the TV off whenever anything Superbowl comes on - it's just a lot of annoying noise as far as I'm concerned. First time poster on these threads but read them all the time. Annie, I feel your pain! Hubby retired 9/1 of last year, we put our old home on the market 10/4, moved and arrived at our new home the night before Thanksgiving (dinner last Turkey day was hot dogs and mac&cheese). We knew that we were going to be downsizing drastically when we were house hunting down here so the fixing, tossing, donating, going thru everything, yard sales, getting the house ready for listing, packing and dealing with the moving company almost did us in. Dinner last night (Friday) was ribeyes, twiced baked potatoes and brussel sprouts with garlic and bacon, roasted in butter and a little bacon grease. The best part was that hubby did all the cooking, which is very unusual (but much appreciated). Ate in the living room while watching the latest Star Trek movie that is now on DVD. Tonight we're having a very simple dinner. With my new found skills with making a good meatloaf, we're having meatloaf sandwiches, which we both prefer over a meatloaf dinner. Meatloaf is in the oven right now. Hubby had wanted to go out in the boat today but I nixed that idea as I'm feeling really lazy today. Mainly because the lake is always crowded with out of towners during the weekends. Most of whom think drinking and boating are one and the same. So we're going out tomorrow as most of the boaters will have left or will be working. A late lunch or early dinner will be at a restaurant that faces the London Bridge after we get back. Haven't been out on the lake since August when we had a large almost two week long get-together with very dear friends and family. When we moved here we were told that there were a few months when it's actually too hot to be boating (unless you spend all of your time IN the water instead of on it) and that even swimming pools often get too hot to be enjoyable during the heat. We scoffed....but found out how true that was. Went thru our first monsoon season here and boy was that interesting. Now that the temps have cooled off somewhat we want to take advantage of it. TGIF indeed, I'm clinking with a cup of peppermint tea. Johnliu, I really like turkey, although I'm not a fan of stuffing. In fact, we had smoked turkey for supper and will have turkey again next week. Are you having visitors, or only the family? I say make whatever they like best and they'll be thankful! Rob, that IS exciting, mostly the visitor, I'll be watching to see who it is. I had to smile at the thought of The Boy, dropping parachutes off the deck. Ashley climbed up onto the roof and dropped eggs, her project was to make something that would protect the egg from breaking when dropped from varying heights. Yeah. Bubble wrap worked really well when I sent that dozen farm eggs to dishesdone in New York, and it worked pretty well for the project, but she eventually made a foam rubber "nerf" type container. What will that contribute to her knowledge as an adult? Darned if I know, LOL. Dedtired, good luck on those walks. Of course, walking in snow up to your armpits does burn a lot more calories. (grin) Lars, I'd definitely go for the free fish. I thought my herbs were finished here, we've had snow a couple of times. I knew the sage would grow through the snow and I'll have rosemary for some time, but parsley and thyme are both green and growing too, I didn't realize they were that cold tolerant. Diane, the second week of deer camp is the most wonderful time of year. (With a big nod to Da Yoopers, LOL) It's cold here and we're supposed to get anything from an inch to 9 inches of snow this weekend. A woodstove would feel good. Alexa is probably partying right now, I live a boring life... Today we raked the yard and cleaned the house well, we have our first potential buyer looking at the house tomorrow. I have all my fingers and pretty much everything else crossed. So, we're going to the farm to check on the calves in the barn that are being weaned and we'll insulate the pump house before it gets too cold. I'm hoping to negate the problem of the pump freezing if it gets more than 20 below zero without running a drop light out there. I don't know if it will work, but if nothing else the insulation will help the light keep it a bit warmer. It's completely underground, it'd make an awesome root cellar if I didn't have a well in there. Tomorrow we are projected to have a high of 24 and a low of 18, plus snow. I guess it's time to break out the hats and gloves... Annie

I am ready for a nap just reading of all your plans. My weekend so far has been quite glamorous. I dropped Mom at the hairdresser. Today was Perm Day so I had a couple extra hours. I went through the car wash, got gas and returned a pan to BB&B. Then I came home and continued the ultra-glam job of scrubbing the kitchen floor. The grout was filthy. God, I hate that floor with a red hot passion.Then back to retrieve Mom. She smelled like ammonia. I swear I am going to start a blog about that hairdresser and all the riotous elderly patrons. Since the Californians are coming to visit soon, (bro and DS #1), I am trying to get the place straightened up. Never ends. Jakabedy, sounds like we are having the same sort of day. I also bought some tickets on a whim, to hear Mika Brzezinski and her mother, who is a noted sculptor, speak. I have to give the plants a good soak. My grass is now crunchy, it has been so dry. I even watered a young tree the other day. It's a Redbud and I don't want to lose it. And the rest of the weekend is pretty much the same. My two closest friends are away so I have no playmates. Earlier this week I made the drive from Philadelphia, to Portsmoth NH for the night, then Boothbay Harbor Maine. The return trip was Boothbay to Andover MA for the night, then home. My eyes felt like two burned cigarette holes when I pulled in my driveway. Saw one bad accident that put the fear of God in me, although there are still the idiots out there. Lots of backups along the way, too. I could not believe the traffic trying to get on the Tappan Zee going the opposite way from me. I'd have turned around and gone home.

Our annual rodeo is the weekend of the 4th. Started last night thru Saturday night. I am going tonight to watch my 67 year old brother and his 15 year old granddaughter team rope. Should be fun!

I plan on fixing ribs, beans, potato salad and slaw on the 4th.

When I was a kid I loved fireworks, but since I came home from Viet Nam,,,they seem to resurrect to many memories.

I'll be running my errands on Saturday. On Sunday, I'll be working and probably very frustrated by the noise the neighbors will be making (same as every weekend LOL).

Today it was getting my boss off to his holiday weekend, making sure the car and driver met his flight and got him to the harbor.....that accomplished I can get ready for my weekend!

Getting the pool cleaned up for Sunday and Monday, and finishing up on the house redecorating, at least as far as we have gotten! Monday I plan on laying in the pool all day!

Aunty, I couldn't change the pedals on my bike, so I stayed home. Vacuumed, am taking a cleaning break right now in the middle of cleaning the chairs and the table I scored Thursday, and then will hang some pictures.

My boxes are all gone.

Tomorrow and Monday I have to work. Sunday inside, Monday outside... it'll be hot.

I think I will just hang out in my apartment Monday evening and soak up the ac.

I hate July 4th, mostly because everyone around here shoots off fireworks and my dog gets panicky. Last night I walked into the bathroom and felt a sudden thump in the backs of my legs. It was my dog Molly, who was afraid of the firecrackers outside. She wouldn't let me out of her sight. Luckily we have AC, so we went in the bedroom, me DH and Molly, shut the door, and she slept through the night.

Tomorrow is a big day. Finn is getting baptized and I am the sponsor. After church there will be a luncheon for the family and I am invited. Monday is the parade here and that evening is the fireworks. July 4 is my favorite holiday. I love the big fireworks display.

I have been busy today. Went with Amber and Alyssa to some rummage sales. Alyssa got some of the cutest things for when she is older to play with. I got a few cookbooks and some dried fruit. I came home and have been baking my sweet potato casserole and black raspberry pies for tomorrow. I am going to put some beans in the oven to bake soon. Tomorrow is our first Sunday of the month meal at our church. After the meal they are having a patriot concert then we will go back down to the basement and they will have homemade ice cream. The Fourth of July we will go to Amber and Mike's for a pitch in and cook out. I will work on my food for then on Monday. It is a busy week end for me it seems.
