Do you have a certain day of the week you buy your groceries and do your shopping? Amber and I usually go on Wednesday, however there are times when other things come up and we go another day. We only shop once a week usually. So how often do you shop for your groceries? I'm on my way to shop now!

No. I go to the grocery store when I need things. It could be once a week, three times a week or once every 12 days.

Nah. In the suburbs, there are a half dozen major supermarkets within 3 miles of our front door (and a gazillion smaller places to shop), so we tend to just run out as needed for stuff. At the country house, we have 2 supermarkets within about 1.5 miles, as well as: several fresh pasta 'factories', fresh sausage and perogi places and a lot of produce stands, so same applies.

I imagine people's answer to this will depend upon how close they live to a grocery store.

Yes. My living/family room in our 60's ranch style house that we recently purchased. It is very tiny and narrow with a large bay window and a bar that separates the living room from the kitchen. Of course, the wall that the bar is on, runs all the way down the middle of the house to create the hallway to the bedrooms making picking a paint color a challenge. Ideally I would reconfigure the entire house, but that kind of work is not in the budget right now so I have been struggling with making it look nice the way it is. My latest dilema has been trying to find a paint color that works in the tiny living room area, and down the hallway, and to the back of the living room area where we have some bookcases. Oh, and to make it a bit more complicated, I have a chair rail all the way through this area, and my bay window is a 5-part window which I am having the hardest time finding window hardware for since it all has to be top-mount. I am not quite sure I want window shades, so I now have paper across the window since I pulled the ugly vertical blinds down about three weeks ago. I am still trying to find a solution that I like for the window. Needless to say, there are lots of design challenges in my living room. I wish I had a fairy goddesigner to help me make this room work. I am certain it keeps me up at night - ugh - Ok, enough of my ranting.

I think it'll be fine, especially if you're careful about the finish. Your house is pretty much now, and so is the style kitchen you've pictured, and the wide arch. The word "transitional" is overworked, but generally fits anything that has past elements in today's design framework, and that's really what you have pictured. The word "Shaker" applies to the simple recessed panel, not the minimalist design philosophy here. The woods in your picture of the stairs are honey colored (medium golden brown) and in your kitchen drawing they're more spice (medium-dark orange brown). Since you're opening up your house rather than separating off the kitchen, I'd be more concerned with making the woods work together than the cabinet style (which by being so simple should go with anything). Just make sure you're happy with the choice you make! There's no point starting otherwise.

Poor Carol--I had that the first part of the month and I hate to tell you but it lasted for what seemed like forever. Then Harry got it :( That coughing was terrible. I've been making endless lists and firming up the TG menu. Today we did all the grocery shopping and found room for all the extra stuff holidays call for. Glad that's over. Other than that it's just the ususal cleaning, laundry, bill paying and meal fixing. Can't wait to see my "baby" grandson for Thanksgiving--yeah, right. He's 14 and 5'll". But he's still my baby!

Eam, beachem, cpartist, and all who gave recipes for purée ing turkey, thank you! I didn't see them till now, but I know the caregiver made purée with the leftovers. Mom's sister popped in on the way to her son's, just as we eer sitting down, so she helped Mom while DH and I oversaw things (and ate!). The carrots, Cook's Magazines boiled carrot recipe (I know, I know, who needs a recipe for boiled carrots? I do.) came out soft enough that she could manage them just fine, yet just firm enough for everyone else. I passed on the sweet potatoes, it was one too many things. I used Mom's wedding china, her gorgeous silver, and the damask napkins. She didn't recognize any of it, but it color-matched the family room where we ate better than their dining room :) Dad was in tears at the table, it was his first time home since August. The house is his baby, he designed it with an architect, his own company built it, on family land. Probably our last Thanksgiving in that house. Time for new traditions.

No scheduled time - Walmart super center is only 4 miles from me, and I spend way too much time and money there.

I usually go only once a week. Since our kids are on their own and hubby is retired I am a little more organized about all of it. I stock up for the winter and buy when on sale. Rarely do I have to run in to get something.

Thursday nights I do my main shopping. I usually pick a few things up on the weekends too but I spend less money if I buy most of it in one shot. The grocery store is very close and I pass it on my way home but it's a pain dragging two kids in the store with me so I only stop with them when absolutely necessary.

it used to be after the ads came out. now, with just 2 of us, it's sat am for sam's and sunday am for costco...in the bad weather months we go just once on the best day...

I go only when I need something, or if I've run out of my Stash cat's favorite foods.

Since retiring, I don't do anything on a regular schedule..not sure if that's a good or bad thing. :)

But...when I do go, I make it in the late afternoon in the middle of the week.

The grocery ads come out on Wed. so I shop on Thursdays. Fridays are just too crowded for me. When I worked in town I shopped every night after work, I loved that. Now its a once a week and I HATE it. Too much stuff in the heat of the day.

Hubby and I go on Sunday, usually every other Sunday after we do breakfast out.. I really try to keep stocked up so I don"t have to go to the grocery store between these shopping trips.. I used to be one of those that was in our local Wal-Mart every day. I am now more organized, plan my meals ahead of time.. cook extra and freeze for later use, we do some shopping at Costco, and another discount food market, We have cut our grocery bill consiterably since doing this.. the least amount of visits to the store, the less likly to spend on impluse.
I am now big on making lists and menu planning, at first it was a hassel, but now I enjoy knowing what is for dinner, and enjoy the fact all the items needed for that meal are at hand.. once in a while I have to make a quick run to the store but not too often.
Another tip is i freeze milk, since that is one item than tends to run out..

I shop anytime I need to, or want to, I'm lucky I have a good grocery within walking distance. I can get there in 5 minutes walking or one minute driving.
My DH reads the ads on Thursday and makes lists of things for me to buy. He's a true cherry picker. Last week we got fillet mignon for $2.99 a pound and Hawaiian punch half price.

DH does 98% of the shopping,started doing it when i had knee surgery last year,and i let him keep it up.He loves to shop,i hate it.I only go and buy the fresh fruit and veggies,he does everything else,commissary once a month and the local stores in between.Works for me.

He also does all the laundry,and i fold and put away,and he does almost all of the cooking.LOve it!!!
