It's the bread. I worked there and there is no added smells.

I agree it is the bread since it is fresh baked right there, I think it smells great too. We love subway every once in a while for dinner. My fave is the subway club with everything but the hot peppers.

My local Subway smells okay. But they've cut back on what they sell. No more salads or wraps. All you can buy is sandwiches. I get a Subway sandwich maybe once a month or less.

Love Subway's classic Italian sub. In fact, I think that's the only thing I've ever ordered there. DH switches it up.

Funny, you should mention that because I feel the same way....That good aroma lingers......We don't stop very often but just this past Monday, my hubby was having surgery and a grandson was waiting with me....The hospital has a cafeteria but there was also a Subway with the gift shop so we popped in there....It was delish and for the 2 of us, very reasonable.....

I used to work a couple days a week at an office that was in the same strip mall as a subway. I had always like the smell of their bread but after working in the same area, I grew to hate that small. Now that I don't work there any longer, I'm back to liking subway.

I like their subs, but not the ads. I have written about two--that whinny couple where the girl asks the boy if he wants to be her boyfriend, then snatches the item from his hand and the one where the guy jumps around and starts asking dumb questions from a girl (stranger) Not good examples for the young people.

Angelaid, Harry and I are just like you. We always say we'll try something new at Subway and then end up with the Italian. We know that one's good!

If you have Firehouse Subs in your area, give them a try - much better than Subway, IMHO.

Probably it's the yeast in the bread.

I think certain smell molecules may linger in the moist conditions inside a nose. :)

I was just in a Subway yesterday, and it does smell yummy in there. I've often thought I'd love to just eat some of their bread for dinner one night and nothing else. Probably never do it though :)

I love Subway, eat there several times a week, it's very close to work, now you can text your order so it's ready when you pick up.. sometimes I do sandwich, sometimes salad,they even have pizza, so alot of variety. I just tried the new bbq pulled pork, and it was very good.

Subway turns me off.
Can't eat those sandwiches...they always taste like the were made yesterday, and refrigerated overnight.

I wish it tasted as good as it smells. I think it's bottom of the barrel as far as Sub shops go. None of their veggies taste good to me.

My favorite sub chain is Jimmy Johns. Of course local delis are usually the best.

I think subway may have changed a bit because when DH & I would go near a subway we would almost gag! I think I have had maybwe 1 or 2 in the past 10 yrs.

I LOVE the roasted chicken breast, and their breakfast egg white flat-bread sandwich.

I do like Firehouse subs too the one here is not as close as the subway though.

Subway is just ok. Loved Port A Subs back in NV...and Jimmy Johns in Lexington. Love their subs, or did until I had my surgery. Can't eat all that bread now.

I've never noticed much of a smell in there, except a faint smell of cleaners when I've been there, and I was in there a few weeks ago for the first time in probably 2 years. They don't have a drive up window so I don't patronize them that much. I don't like standing that long and the walk is (literally) a pain for me these days so it's rare that I go to Subway. Last time I got one I stopped at Subway and at Jimmy John's. Had heard so much about Jimmy John's that I thought I'd try them. Not impressed at all. About the same as Subway. And Subway, to me is mediocre anyway. I really miss Clark's Submarine Shops. They didn't offer different types of bread like Subway, but their bread was fabulous. Much like my mother's homemade dinner rolls. Extremely tasty.

Used to be a Blimpie's Sub Shop near my husband's job, he swears they were better than Subway.

I love Firehouse Subs! Quality far surpasses that of Subway.

I would love to see more really good sandwich shops -- even for something as simple as a good turkey sandwich. Not that rolled processed stuff, but good fresh carved turkey on even better bread. Boston Market's OK, I guess.

But there are not a lot of Firehouse Subs around. (In my area, there are 2, and they are in very large strip malls, so even though I can plan to get a lot of shopping done in those places, much of the time I just don't want to be in very-busy strip malls--all the traffic and all the stores just become "sensory overload" and exhausting to be around. Hmm... never thought I'd ever write that! I must be getting old!)

I really don't care for Subway at all, nothing about it. I really liked Quizno but ours closed down due to a divorce. What a shame!

Another one around here is "Cousin's" Subs. Not impressive. I really miss Arby's turkey sandwich. They used to have a turkey sandwich with mayo and it was very good. Then they changed it to a warm turkey with Swiss that was OK. Now it's warm with that plastic cheese on it and it's not good.

A nearby diner has a weekend special of a turkey dinner. They use a roasted bird, chunked up, with potatoes, gravy, dressing and even a little paper cup with cranberry sauce. They did change to instant potatoes but at least they have pretty good ones and I think the gravy is still home made. I wish I could find more places with these kinds of foods.

I love subway. My all time favorite is the Italian combo. There is a new one on t.v. they have advertised. barbque something or other. Gotta try it.

I eat s Subway when I want fast food that is a bit healthier or low cal. My preference is Togos.

Togos has better quality meats. More like an old fashioned carvery deli used to be. Excellent pastrami and meatball subs too.

Subway uses that slimier deli meat which I really don't care for but will eat because it's fresh and I hide the texture by having them pile on veggies.

Never noticed the smell lingering after leaving. They (Subway) bake their own bread and cookies all day right behind the counter.

Jimmy John's would have my vote for best, freshest subs!
Subway bugs me because you say "I'll have the Club" (or whatever kind) and they ask what you want on it. Duh,I want what you advertise. Seems petty I know, but why have a big sign advertising it and then ask what I want on it????

I like Subway when I am taking a road trip. It has healthy, low-cal options. My favorite is a veggie special. I miss Togo's which was in CA.

I really really miss CityBites in Oklahoma that was one of our all time fave places for subs and sandwiches. Wish they would put in more locations especially one near me LOL

When we lived in Memphis and I worked in the Medical Center I loved the Overton Hero, they made amazing sandwiches, don't know if it still exists.

The best is from Primo Hoagies...any hoagie shop that does the business this company is doing, in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs (where we KNOW what a hoagie (Sub to the rest of you) should taste like...is going to be even more of a success as it's franchising reaches further outside of the tri-state area.
Real proscuitto, capacola, and Genoa salami, real provolone cheese. And real italian bread.

If you've been fortunate to eat a real hoagie, you know what I mean.
