Concerning the TurboChef, it is great! I have seen this unit in action several times, and it is such a time saver and tooooo cool. The interface was actually designed by the same people that designed the Ipod (Frog design, or something like that). You can cook a 12 lb. Turkey in 42 min. Fresh vegies in 2 min. Biscuts in 3 min.

Like anything else, it would take some getting used to, but this type of "speed oven" is certainly the future of cooking. TurboChef seems to have it's act together in more ways than, say, the GE Advantuim (too small!), or the Miele "MasterChef" lines. It's very large. There is also a USB type port that, when up-grades come out, you literally just plug it in. Wow!

I think the time saved and quality of food served is well worth the expense. $6K? You have already obviously selected your other appliances for function. This would be a great addition (and it looks cool too).

If you can, please find somewhere to see this unit in action.

Thanks footflash - I have been driving my husband crazy going back and forth on appliances so it's nice to get the thumbs up! I didn't know about the USB port - cool feature. I would love to see the ovens in action but there aren't too many people carrying it. I'm in Ontario, and there appears to be just one distributor with TurboChef. Where are you and where did you see the ovens "live"?

I've seen it work and it's extremely impressive because it's different than any other oven I've encountered. I feel it's the direction ovens will be taking in the future because it's menu driven, not heat driven. I posted and explained this previously. I don't know about service/support and I have absolutely no connection with anyone who advertises or sells it.

As a point of clarification, let's not confuse ovens which offer multi-heat combinations/convection/micro/steam/conventional) for faster/different cooking with European convection ovens which offer conventional and convection cooking only -- without either steam or microwaves just because they are wall oven, and not microwave oven, size. They are different.

To answer your question though, if I was doing a reno right now, and I had a family ahead of me I would go for the Turbochef. Their delivery system for the convection air is very different than other ovens, which seems to be the big factor.

Perhaps some of the appliance pros who know the oven will weigh in here and help you out. Antss? Weissman? Guadelupe?

Rococogurl - awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing. In my google searches I hadn't come across that one. It's actually more helpful than the Charlie Trotter ones on the TurboChef web site. Thanks also for the primer on the oven's technology. I will stay tuned for any more feedback but am definitely leaning towards the TC.

My wife was set on the thermador double oven and I have finally convinced her to look at the TC. She is worried that it will be complicated to get used to the different cooking times.

As a guy, I am sold on it after watching the videos available. The USB is another gadget loving plus.

I would also like to hear any feedback on the Turbochef, especially any negatives as I do not want to have regrets should we go with it.

I don't know if you have a 'Subway' sandwich shop where you live, but the newer stores seem to be using Turbo Chefs. Go in on a slow day and ask them about it.

My husband and I just built a house and we have installed a TurboChef oven. It is truly amazing! We can have dinner ready in no time.
