I'll salute Canada Day with a drink at the Bacardi distillery in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Capitol Building viewed from the "Newseum" looking past the Canadian Embassy. I imagine the diplomats standing there, looking SE and thinking to themselves: "Never in the field of human governance was so little done by so many for so long."

Nicole, we spent a week one night in a mobile home in Estes Park. It was during a hail storm in early September. The noise of the hail on the roof of the mobile home and trying to navigate through the streets is firmly burned in our mostly pleasant memories of our first trip west to tour Colorado by motorcycle. Snow plows had to be brought in to plow up all that hail so traffic could move the next morning.

I've seen several monarch caterpillars this summer. Captured one and kept it in a covered vase until it went into a chrysalis. Then I took the lid off, and about 10 days later it had emerged and apparently flew away. (Sorry if photos are previously posted.) The gold trim around the chrysalis is beautiful. (Blurry in my poor photo, but it looks like little gold beads.)

Gazania, I laughed at loud at the picture of your granddog! Too cute. Jim, the first thought I had was "what kind of commute does THAT guy have that works at the top"!! Great pictures, everybody! Nicole, yours really is quite stunning. I hope someday I can see that in person!! Today is Fred's birthday. He is 12 today. What a clown he is. Such a good boy.
