Karen, I just love your colorful town.
This isn't a very clear picture, but it's what I could get after chasing this butterfly from one side of the yard to the other several times.

And it looks like that car is going "uptown". What a colorful place to live, Casey. AS always your pics are beautiful and show it off well.

$10 for the hike ... a steal! When we were on the cruise in Alaska last month one of the couples at our table partied a little too hard the night before we docked in Sitka and called at 7am to ask if we'd like to go on a hike while in town. We said sure. A 15 min bus ride to a national forest and a four mile hike cost them just under $90 each for the hike and a light snack (bottle of water and a chocolate bar)! Sake barrels at a Shinto shrine in Kobe, Japan. Good friends of mine got married there. I absolutely fell in love with the barrels and just recently, while looking for Japanese home decor on Craig's List, found an authentic barrel for $10. TEN DOLLARS! Others I've seen for sale ran between $300 and $800. I'll be posting a photo of mine some time in the future asking for help determining what I can spray or brush on it to preserve the rope and decorative cover. Great pictures,as usual! Beautiful sunset. Vala-I love the little people in the boat! Karenmay-I love the eggs too.My sister makes those using real eggs.Ostrich and emu mostly.She does the delicate cut-out stuff.She has done some really beautiful ones and won several awards at the fair.

Lots of places on campus are getting a face-lift this summer. Here the contractors are pressure washing the Ad-Min building...the oldest building on campus. When they are finished I'll try for a pic of the bright, new look....

Alisande, that butterfly is a Baltimore. Interesting info on it. My book says that they build communal webs around their food plant in which they overwinter. Unusual for butterflies. It would be easy to destroy them when cleaning up our gardens at the end of the growing season.

I think it is a Star of Persia Allium. What a coincident that it was taken in Lake Placid. I am going to Lake Placid, NY tomorrow night with some friends to an outdoor concert.
