Beautiful! When I was in college, a (female) friend nick-named me "Fawn" because of my brown eyes and hair. No one has ever called me that except her. Thanks for posting.

Fawns are just adorable. I'm always amazed at watching them jump over fallen trees on those spindly legs.

Does often leave their young in a "safe" spot while they feed. Most of the time a little fawn will just lay very quietly and not move...As they get a little older they get a little more adventurous.

Sadly often people will find the fawns and believe them to be deserted.....and take them....A really bad idea until you know absolutely that the mother isn't coming back...and if she doesn't come back. it is because she is injured or killed...they almost never desert a fawn.

Oh, she's a beautiful little mule deer fawn. She looks very healthy and well-fed, I'm sure mama isn't too far. The only time you should ever consider taking a fawn is if it's in obvious distress, bleating and wandering frantically. The one we raised had been stolen from the woods by school children and I still to this day feel badly for her mother, who must have been so upset to have her newborn go missing. Makes me so mad. I really wish we could have found out where they took her from because her mother would have taken back, human smell or not.

Good to know she probably had a mother nearby. I remember one year when my children were small, a fawn got stuck in old barbed wire in our woods. It was frantic and bleating. I put on thick leather gloves and freed it. The mother was not far away, equally frantic and pacing.

Susan, I used a Panasonic Lumix FZ35 superzoom. It's the current model in the FZ line, and I'm very happy with it. Previously I used the FZ5, the first version from 2005. My other current camera is an Olympus DSLR, the E-520.

I shot those pics through an open window. The fawn heard me open the window and was curious enough to look at me when I spoke.

I'm pretty sure Susan photographed a white tailed deer, also called a Virginia deer. We see lots of them in the early summer and sometimes a doe will have 2 and they really are so sweet to watch. Mule deer are in the western half of the US. I guess the fawns must look very similar.
