Great shots-thanks for sharing. I live on the North Shore of Long Island (well. a couple of miles from the beach). We occasionally see Red Tailed Hawks circling.

There are a few that make their nests every year in Fargo, the paper and tv do big articles on them.

Great photos! I had a Red Tail Hawk sitting on my back fence a couple of years ago. He caught a rabbit for lunch in my neighbors yard. They said it was a mess to clean up. We have an abundance of rabbits here that destroy gardens and I wish we had more hawks. After all, we are the hawkeye state.

I was the only person out of about 20 that said it was a Peregrine Falcon. Everyone else claimed it was a hawk.

So, Jodi's are smart too. LOL Personally, I think the KT is chock full of smart people. :-)

Wow, what a stunning bird and wonderful pictures, Jodi! It's really special to see such a lovely animal in the wild, up close.

We occasionally have hawks around my school, and once a sharp-shinned hawk flew into my classroom chasing a small bird which flew in first,. The hawk panicked and finally bashed himself into a window trying to get out. I felt like I was in the movie The Birds! I've heard hawks around the school this summer as well, making that screeee noise.

Oh, OH! Can I be the first one to say "oh, that poor bunny, how could you sit there and let Mother Nature take its course like that, you mean horrible person!"??? Can I, can I, huh?

I find it amazing the falcon and bunny are in the city areas which is where I assume your office is, Jodi.

This falcon really is a beauty for sure..what a great chance for you to see it so close and to photograph it as well.

Granlan, our offices (a campus of 8 multi-story buildings) is at the top of a hill overlooking the University of Irvine campus and Newport Beach.

Behind my building is a hilly area that I hiked last week. Ten minutes into the hike I saw a gorgeous Bobcat.

A Mountain Lion had to be captured and relocated before we move into the company campus three years ago.

So, not really the city but a bit more developed than the country.

Flamey, the bunny was so buried in the hedge that not too many people actually saw it, so no big "poor bunny" outcry.

We have lots of hawks and falcons just south of you where so many of them hunt in the hills above Laguna Beach and the many natural parks in our area.

Was the bunny disabled? I'm not sure what you mean by "waiting for him to 'quiet down'". I'm just curious about these things... that's all.

Susan, the bunny was dead when I saw it. I think the falcon was just holding it down in a stable place until it died. I would imagine it would be tough to fly around with a bunny flailing its legs.

Why he chose a low hedge next to a busy building is beyond all of us but word got out quickly and people came from all around to see him.

I think he got more attention than when Prince Andrew came to visit a year or so ago. But not as much as when the Stanley Cup was here three years ago. LOL (our founder owns the Ducks hockey team)

He/she is beautiful. We had a Peregrine Falcon just like that one crash into our sliding glass doors in Ohio.....what a horrible noise and of course it killed the poor thing. It was the first one I had ever seen.

We have hawks here and I soooo dislike them for killing the little birds, but I do understand the food chain. However we will chase the hawk every chance we get.

According to my friend who is a licensed falconer and raptor rehabilitator, the hawk is a juvenile red-tail hawk. They don't get their red tail until they are 2 years of age. It isn't a peregrine, I didn't think it was but wanted to be sure.
