That you had a beautiful bed and breakfast. And you were a simple, sensible, down to earth girl.

Then you had the inventor of the MRI, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner sitting at your dining room table.

Me -- I'm still freaking out. Thank God for my therapist. lol.

How would you deal? really. I mean THE INVENTOR OF THE MRI, here, in my home and I'm serving him breakfast ?!!

But here's the reality of this -- the reason they were here is because their daughter (who stayed with us last year) gave then a gift certif for their 50th anniversary. And she chose our place cause of the Saint Bernards. She knew her parents loved big dogs.

Sooo -- the inventor of the MRI stayed here with us cause of the Saint Bernards. bizzare.

How would you handle this?

What fun!!! Me? I'd treat him or her just like any other guest but I'd ask for a photo of myself with him or her.

Oh WOW! I'd probably be somewhat flustered, and need help to not spill the coffee, but would get it done and also ask for the photo shoot. With the Bernards!

Hello cottage friends. I'm back after losing power for a few days. Keesha, I think we must live close together. We had similar weather. I'm glad your daughter is OK. I hope the people across the street from her were fine as well. I'll skip the details of the experience here, but at least all is back to normal now. It is good to be able to visit again. Annette-I wish I could see your Gurnsey Cream Clematis. The name reminds me of my favorite creamery here in Michigan. Ice cream as smooth as butter. Mmmmmm. Your pond sounds lovely. I would love to have some fish to feed. Happy in Texas- I don't think I would get up from that purple swing. With the flowers and vines around, it is the perfect setting. I've been looking for oranges for my font bed. The Mexican Petunias would be fun there. I love the idea of a boy's themed garden. I bet it is fun coming up with plants for that garden. Thank you for lunch and the tour of Amy's bed. If you point me in the right direction, I'll do some digging for you while you plant. Lorna, Thank you for the rose. Maybe now the car dealership won't notice the spilled milk smell when I turn my lease in this month. On second thought, I'll put the rose by my bedside table. Maybe one day my garden will grow some roses as wonderful. I'm happy to just see your prickly pears. Those are not something that would do well with my snow. The herbs must be very happy at your house, because they have intense flavor. I'm glad I'm started some arugula for next summer. Maybe it is from your garden. I got it in the seed swap. It is Rocket Eruca. I've never seen hummingbird moths. I hope there are some waiting at the lilac bush. This has been a breath taking visit. Thank you. Primgal: I LOVE peony's. They are on the to plant list this year. After a trip through your garden, I am considering a few extra plants to attract the hummers. When you are done with your yard, will you come squish some of my creepie crawlies? I can't get over the ick factor of squishing bugs. Jap Beetles are monsters, not bugs. They get whacked or chopped with a shovel. It is wonderful that your garden enhances your spirituality. Flower lady- Would you share the senses of your winter garden with us? Now I know one of Libby's gardening secrets. I've not heard of the City of Gardens, so I will have to do some googling. Sierra, I'm going to your post next. Oh, I know what you mean. I'm simply craving color...inside my home and out. I do have fading hyacinths and full-bloom red tulips on the back porch to cheer me up, but there is still too much brown and gray outside. I've picked up a few plants this weekend. Some purple and white (each) wave petunias were the only things with blooms. It's just still too cold to get what I want. In order to satisfy that crazy color craving I hit the quilt shop, glass shop (I do stained glass) and took a long walk through a botanic garden. Happy projects to come! I LOVE spring!

Karen, your tables are great!!! I love the pitcher & the colors in picture 2, that tea pot or pitcher whatever it is, should not go on a garden totem, keep it for tablescapes, it's so pretty. Those napkins are gorgeous & both of your tablesettings are fab!!! Our DT had a lot of patriotic, but since I didn't do any at home this year, I passed on them, but you got some really cute things at your 99 cent store. I found a few things today, not waiting til Monday, may be busy with puppies. YES, I'm still waiting for our Shih Tzu to decide to have hers!!! She is as big as a whale, can't go much longer, but since she wasn't going into labor today, I ran to a few yard sales. There weren't too many, guess everyone is still on holiday from the 4th, but I got some cute things. The first is watermelons. There are 8 plastic placemats, 50 cents for all of them, a watermelon salt & pepper shaker for $1.00 and it's pictured together & apart & two plastic bowls, .25 each, and 4 costers .25 The second is sunflowers, two bunches for .50 each, a sunflower candle for $1, and the large rooster for $3.00 and there are two smaller ones together, they are a candle, think it was .25 or .50 can't remember. The next is red napkins 12 of them for $1.50, two boxes of (4 each) rhinestone napkin holders (new) for .50 each, and a burgundy & gold tablerunner for $1.00. Next are (4) palm placemats (new) for $2.00.

Thermapen is worth every penny. You can use it on meat, baked goods, whatever. It really reads in under three seconds. It was really hard for me not to order one of the splash-proof ones to replace my "ancient" one when I was buying them as Holiday gifts. Most "instant" read thermometers on the market don't cut it. 6-10 seconds isn't instant. I want to open the oven/grill - go in to two or three places, and get out. The CDN quick-read units are pretty good as well; 5 or 6 seconds, for about $20 for the DTQ450X -- look for the ones that have the "turned down" (smaller diameter) tips for the last 1/2" or so. Whole Foods sometimes has these, and I see them at Amazon as well. Mechanical dial thermometers don't ever fall in the "instant" category for me. (Baked goods will often hold at below 200 until done, then shoot up when the moisture starts leaving as steam.)

I'd treat them the same as anyone else.I would welcome Peter or Paul and his spouse to my establishment and tell them I hope they enjoy their stay. We would talk about dogs and family and favorite foods and places to visit. I would be full of questions about the process of inventing his widget but only if he were receptive to talking about it. It's his R&R time after all. The focus should be on making sure he and his wife enjoy their anniversary trip.

I don't get star struck. Most "stars" are like Mel Gibson....they have their own set of problems that I don't relate to. So I have to share what I care about....showing them around the flower garden, talking about sights to see, the weather.....

You have your own successes!

Trish, that's exciting. I agree with the others, treat him as you would anyone else, but if he has mentioned to you that he invented it please tell him you know of people who are very thsnkful for the MRI.

Well, as the innkeeper, it's my job to make their stay as pleasant as humanly possible...

And I really think that most 'famous' people are just people like everyone else and that they get very, very tired of being singled out for special treatment...

I wouldn't 'treat' them like regular people, I'd truly WOULD consider them just ordinarly people/guests like everyone else. And if you want an honest answer here? I definitely WOULD NOT in any way publicize that they were visiting my establishment. Not even on an 'annonymous' chat board. But that's just me

I have to ask, did he tell you who he is, or did it just come up in conversation?

I guess I would have just mentioned what a fantastic aid MRI has been to so many people and thank him for that.

Then let him enjoy his dinner.

I agree with what Azzalea said about maintaining privacy for ALL of your guests.

Since we already now know who it is and you ask for advice I would say to treat him just as any other guest. Doing that may of course include doing something special for any and all guests to make their stay more comfortable. I am sure you go out of your way for all your guests who may have different needs. That is one of the things that make a stay at a B&B so pleasant over a stay at a chain hotel. You may want to stock some typical British foods like jams and biscuits or make afternoon tea available for all guests during his stay. He may wish to enjoy the American experience but some things like afternoon teatime are hard to give up. One of the things that people miss when traveling is their favorite foods and they don't care to eat "strange" foods the whole vacations.

*If anyone has the chance read his autobiography. It is quite interesting. He actually failed his entrance exams to grammar school. He dropped out of high school at the age of 15y/o and went to work as a printer. Very similar to how Einstein failed math in third grade and was told he would never amount to anything by his teacher. Who's having the last laugh now? He has been knighted. And of course as we know, he jointly received (with Paul C. Lauterbur d. 2007) the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine.

Damidian never received the Nobel Prize although many feel it should have gone to him, or that at least he should have shared it with the other two who received it. He has received numerous other awards though and holds numerous patents.

There was a huge controversy when he did not get the Nobel prize since his work on NRI was the precursor for MRI. But there is always controversy with those Nobels prizes every single time isn't there?

He's on vacation: Let him BE on vacation.
And his wife is probably enormously glad that they are on vacation--she's probably sick of hearing about his work by now! Thankful and in awe, too, but sick of it and just wanting her alone time with him! (Spouses of doctors/medical researchers/etc. frequently don't get that 100% focused alone time.)

Just be the best B&B operator you have tried to be since you opened the place! Nothing above and beyond, just your everyday best! (Plus you don't want any of the other guests thinking poorly of you, that you didn't fawn over them or do something extra for them.)

No problem--I'd treat him exactly like any other guest. It'll be fine.

When I worked at Lincoln Center I got used to meeting famous people. The ones at the top seemed to be grateful to be treated like ordinary human beings. (It was the bottom feeders who wanted special treatment.)

Someone mentioned his autobiography but I couldn't find anything on it. I thought is was something my DH would like to read.
