AnnaKay - snakes and nest boxes

Hi AnnaKay!

Did not want to hijack the other thread and there may be others interested. You don't mention what kind of birds you have nesting or where they are placed. I am a Purple Martin landlord. We have snakes that will climb 10+ feet to get to the nests. Poles should have a baffle of some sort to prevent raccoons and critters from climbing up. Snakes can get around that but bird netting, like the kind used to cover blueberry bushes, can be used above the baffle to catch snakes. Take the netting and create a loose arrangement around the pole. Your snake will get caught up in it. Take it out and release it away from your property. You could use a similar arrangement for bluebird boxes on shorter poles but not if they are attached to a fence.

Let me know if you need more info.
