Wind that strong must be terrifying. I don't think we get anywhere near as much wind as you down in the plains.

About 4 this afternoon we were taking another load to the storage garage and the sky opened up. It came down in buckets! There were some real ugly clouds. About 6 miles away, at home, we didn't get nearly as much.

We had a heck of a storm last night here with winds and horrible rolling clouds and buckets of rain too, but no where near as bad as what you guys got.
We have a neice and DH in Omaha, hope they are ok too.

Allisande, they always say to get out of your car and lie down in a ditch AWAY from the car during a tornado. Cars can be picked up and blown around like little toy cars.

Some family in west Omaha went outside to check damage after it went past them and found a boat on their roof...lol

But they still say there were no tornadoes. Just wind.

Valley, where DD lives, is still without power. She helped evacuate all the elderly people in the assisted living place she works, that's 1/2 blk from her house. Her and the kids had gone to Omaha to get something to eat for supper because she'd lost power. She came back, about 7:30 or 8:00 and saw the fire trucks and rescue squads there at Orchard Gardens and went to see what was up. Then she volunteered to help. She called me about 10:15 last night to come get the kids, and bring them here. They were so tired, and no lights at home. When she got done, about 12:30AM she came here too and crashed. Can you believe that assisted living place doesn't have a back up generator? I can't. They had lights for 2 hours, until the batteries went out. Those poor people had to go to relatives homes, if they had anyone that could come get them. They brought 8 of them up here to Fremont's care center.
What really torks my jaws is the way people act like it's the staffs fault this happened, and beotch at the care takers because they had to "come get their parent when they have a house full of company".

OMG Leslie! That is horrible people complain about their family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sad and horrible, but I believe it.
Our nursing home has a generator, doesn't run everything but it helps. Uncle said power was off a few hours the other day because of a construction project at the home.
Hows your Mom Leslie, how far away does she live, did she lose power too?

I'll bet they get a generator now, for sure. I don't think anyone thought they didn't have one.
Mom's fine. She lives 1/2 block from me here in Fremont. My sister is without power too. She lives close to Valley, on a lake. There is 120,000 people without power, in the Omaha, Fremont, Valley area.

WOW!! What an awful storm, but what incredible pictures you got...Those are definitely worth blowing up and framing...

So sad people lost their lives...I'm glad everyone in your family is safe and glad you didn't have to sit in the dark to long...I'm always up for a game of rummy!! lights or not!

What nasty looking clouds Patti. They do look like they could form a tornado. What a tragedy about the people getting killed by the falling tree. Too sad when they thought they were doing the right thing.

I just noticed..the second picture, over the barn, looks like a big fat buda sitting up there...lol

We didn't get any major storm here. Although Kalie & DBF were heading to the Twin Cities and had to stop and wait a while on the roadside until they could see again!!

We had "straight line winds" come through here a few years ago! That is what they "officially" called the storm. We called it a small tornado!!!!! Looking from our 2nd story into the field across the road, you could see the whirling indents in the crop! We had a tree that was pulled out of the ground....not blown out!

I think we have been getting the same storms. Winds were really bad yesterday. I stood at the door watching what was going on outside. The skies were really black here yesterday afternoon. Rain came down really heavy.

Unlike the Detroit area that gets hit by the same storms we don't lose electricity like they do over there from falling trees and downed wires. We have just as many trees but our power company keeps the trees trimmed near the wires and come around twice a year to trim them.

My basement is flooded and we are expecting more torrential rains until Tuesday.
