So glad and now that his adopted son Matt has admitted he was also abused perhaps Mrs Sandusky will also be tried.
Both of them are monsters.

I raced home from the gym after seeing all my local stations cut to Bellefonte. You have to live here to know how big this was, and how long it's been in the news.He's been a pedophile all his adult life and hurt so many kids. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are ten more at least in case he got off in this trial. I guess they won't have another trial since he will get almost 500 years.

I know no one involved but I got very teary for the victims when the counts were read. Dottie should be indicted as well...the witch.

A pedophile has been convicted, and I wish his wife all that she deserves.
It also, hopefully, will bring down the worship of Joe Paterno's "legacy" - or, in other words, how he personally made millions on the side in his job...while ignoring what he was legitimately paid to do.

It's too bad his adopted son, Matt, didn't come forward sooner. I wondered what the purpose of him admitting Sandusky had abused him at that late stage of the trial was. In any event, Sandusky's wife will be living in her own prison of hell for the rest of her life, also.

Victims of sexual assault & incest & other abuse often keep quiet.

People often wonder why victims didn't 'come forward sooner', but actually in the case of this pedophile, we've heard why:

Victims often aren't believed (remember the mother who said the police advised her to "let it lie" or some such when her son was assaulted, because Sanduskey had a reputation as a pillar of the community, a man with a heart of gold, in other words, *her son would not be believed*),

their abusers have absolute power & their victims are terrified of them (remember the foster child who testified, "he told me I'd never see my family again").

& when women don't 'come forward' to report sexual assault-
they are afraid of being ridiculed, of being accused of participating willingly or even of inviting the attack, of 'asking for it' ('& you were wearing *what*???').

In instances of incest, other family members protect the assailant, ostracizing the victim, etc.
Whaddya bet Matt's mother would have denied that her husband could have assaulted him, would have said Matt was just a troublemaker, was angry with his father & made up the story as retaliation for..maybe having his car keys taken away?

Matt wasn't adopted until age 11 & he'd been in the Second Mile program. I think I read something about Matt's bio Mom knowing, yet not believing Matt.

I can also believe that Mrs. Sandusky may not have "known" in the sense that she was "consciously aware". She was married to a man who had 2 diametrically different sides to him and she turned a blind eye to the evil side. It would reflect on her own ego to comprehend that she had married a man who could do that evil to children... hence it is easier to go into denial... big time denial. I would think (hope) that Matt has shocked her right out of her denial with his revelation. It's not like she could use the excuse that she used for others.... he's not "out for money".

I think the wife had many personal reasons to cover up what she had to know.

Sad for Sandusky? I hope he gets raped in prison like he did to so many kids. He ruined so many lives, many more than these ten. They were going to come forth if this trial acquired him. He smirked and smiled like this whole trial was a joke. Our Pulitzer prize journalist for our local payer said he'd smile listening to the most graphic testimony.

Our attorney general said they are not pursuing Dottie. Let her live her life in hell contemplating the screams she heard from the basement and the 100's of times her husband was having sex with boys across the hall from her and down in the basement

Even when the kids would come forward , people would say..not Jerry, he has a heart of gold with his charity. He had the charity for ONE reason ..to groom these troubled kids for sex!!.

If nothing else, perhaps THIS will serve to bring more attention to this sick world of pedophilia and get MORE of them locked away.

I was amazed last night on our local news, Houston, that they were asking people what they thought of the verdict and one out of three had never heard of him. A friend was here and commented that they probably don't even know who the President is. I was shocked that so many aren't up on current events.

Chances are he will spend most of his time in solitary with perhaps an hour of sunshine a day. It's more than he deserves. A comment was made a couple of times last night by different people and that is that other people who have committed crimes and been found guilty, (murderers, robbers etc) will often admit to their guilt afterwards - pedophiles and child molesters never do. They never see that what they have done is wrong.

Let's not focus on this belatedly convicted 'coach'-- or the monsignor -- except as a reminder that this is HAPPENS.

Keep your eyes open. Report your own suspicions. A lot of people knew there was something 'off' about Sandusky and the priests. You know when something sets off your personal alarms. Don't 'turn a blind eye'. Don't think it's 'none of your business'. Don't point fingers and gossip. Report your suspicions to the police.

This restores my faith in the legal system. After the Casey Anthony verdict, I figured anyone could get away with anything.

Are there accusations that his wife was in on this or knew all along? Horrible.

My heart breaks for the children who have suffered.

This helps to restore my faith in the jury system.

Some of the recent "not guilty" decisions have been so wrong, IMO.

Don't confuse "Not Guilty" with "Innocent".
Guilt is a legal decision that has to be made according to strict rules - the burden of proof of the crime has to be presented "beyond a reasonable doubt" for this legal decision.
That's why the court uses the term "not guilty" instead of innocent. If innocence is proved, then the charges are dropped by the prosecution.

So much for the public trust of social services agencies to 'place' children. How many kids were put into the 'care' of this 'foster family'?

Thank goodness, now maybe I can go one day without turning on the radio and hearing about children being molested. I'm sick to death of hearing about this entire thing, every...single...day.

I am not up on what you call current events. I am up on things I am interested in, certainly not sports. We have a college in town and I could not tell you who the coach is or the name of the president of the college.

I can tell you I think all pedophiles should be put in with the rest of the prison population. From what I have read, he will be punished there.

I am glad he was found guilty.....the reason he showed no emotion when taken in handcuffs is because he still doesn't think he did anything wrong and he was in shock to be held accountable.
I was molested as a young child by a man and when I told my parents he told me I was just being silly because he was just tickling me. Or that he was just playing around or whatever their excuse was. He was a long time friend of my parents. I was so happy when he died!
So I quit telling them......when I read about JS calling himself the Tickle Monster, I got chills and relived all those years of being molested.
I had therapy and have pretty much put it in my past....until this trial.
God Bless those young boys.

I remember when this news first broke, I was driving home from my daughter's and listening to Michael Smircanish's radio show. He played an interview with Mrs. Sandusky, and it was unbelieveable. She knew. I don't know why they didn't use that tape in the trial.

Carol, I, too, was molested as a 4 or 5 year old by my teen age boy babysitter. My parents would go out drinking with his parents. I would get hysterical when my mom told me he would be babysitting me. She would say "Don't be silly". When I was grown I told my mom that it was really stupid of them to leave me with a teen boy and to ignore my hysteria.
I can't stand to see Sandusky on TV. Child molesters should be hung or go before a firing squad.

Carol..You're right. The reason his expression was finally shocked and serious was all along he thought he'd get off. He joked all thru the trial. All our local stations were there in Bellefonte for the past weeks in the courtroom every day. His behavior and demeanor were totally weird. He'd even smile when graphic testimony was being related.

It brings it all back if you were a victim as I also was. It can happen in a wonderful middle class neighborhood in a town like Mayberry. I had not one but two abusers and like Carol, I was so happy when they died, one just recently. I was 11 or 12 and one was a rich old neighbor man, the other a young son in law of our next door neighbors and my parents very good friends. Back in the day you just kept quiet. I wasn't the only one abused either in our neighborhood by the old guy. When the young guy told me to undress in front of my window, I told my mother. She was angry, and told me always to pull the shades down, but that was all. So I never told any more.

I was abused by my grandfather. I never told my Mom, she adores her father to this day. My sisters knew about it, but he never tried anything on them--he was focused on me. I hated him, hated going to their home, and was glad when he died. I hate him to this day, and I was 12 when he died.

See how all victims never forget, and this trial brought it all back so vividly for many. You are powerless as a child.

His wife is every bit as guilty as he is IMHO. She was the first line of defense between those poor kids and her husband. She chose to look the other way. I never understood the purpose of putting her on the stand - how much credibility would you give her? Did anyone actually think she was going to admit she knew something was wrong?

As for the late timing of the Matt thing. I think Sylvia brought up some good points. However, I also thought they intentionally kept him off the stand for another reason. Perhaps a reason he might have come forward so late might have been insurance.

If by any chance Jerry was aquitted (and who knows with juries - there have been some major miscarriages of justice), they could never re-try him on the original 48 counts. But they COULD try him on a new count - Matt. Perhaps they were holding one in reserve, just in case they needed to come back at him a second time.

Besides Matt, I read there were at least ten more in the wings.

A good thing that can come out of all of this is that maybe those who get abused will not be afraid to come forward. And, the adults in their lives will believe them.
It is mind boggling how sick this man is. But ,even worse that others knew or had suspicions and did not come forward.

An article in my morning paper has me boiling....It is titled, "Experts: PSU could have avoided fallout".....It seems a PS detective wanted to charge JS will abusing an 11 yr. old boy in May 1998.....
Ron Schreffler, a now retired university police detective who investigated the first formal complaint against JS, 14 years ago, told a Centre Country jury this month that then Centre Country DA, Ray Cricar overruled him when he wanted to charge JS with sexually abusing a State College boy in a university locker room shower.....
This was way back in 1998????? How many younsters would have been spared????At least 5 victims said he assulted them after 1998..........
Heaven forbid anything be done to put a bad name on PS football or their coaches....Happy Valley certainly isn't or wasn't a very happy place for these victims that were assulted by JS.....
Living in Pa., I have a son, and 2 grand sons that have graduated from PSU and each has gotten a very good education but it still leaves a very bitter taste.......
