Feeling a little guilty....

Well, DSD14 is in NC to try out for the elite team at her dance studio. DH had to work, so I took her to the airport. One of her best friends (from here) went with her this trip, which was BM's idea (to prove the point to DSD that even though her best friends are here, she could still see them cuz it's so easy to fly there?). She is still very "on the fence" about high school (here or there?). She made the volleyball team here, and will probably make the elite dance team there. DH has drafted a letter to BM addressing all of the guilt-tripping, anxiety-producing crap that has gone on for the past 7 months, and will be sending it soon. We have decided (after feedback from this and other boards, as well as lots of other "research" and reading) to "take the bat out of her hands". DH is hoping to have a conference call with BM (and stepdad & me if they agree that's important) to discuss this and have the adults "make the decision". We are operating from the point that DSD came to us (unsolicited) with her wishes, and that she likely wouldn't be "on the fence" had her mom supported her, instead of guilt-tripping her into confusion. We'll see what happens...

I feel a little guilty, though....there's a part of me that hopes she doesn't make the elite team, because I know it will only add to her feelings of "letting her mom down" if she makes it, but doesn't stay in NC for it. Of course, there's the other part of me that hopes she does make it, because it will be such a confidence boost for her. And if she makes it there, I think she'll realize even more that she is good enough to dance anywhere, including the studio here.

I've shared all the feedback here with DH and we have both found most of it very helpful. Thanks to all of you....
