We just hid our microwave in a tall cabinet. You can't see it & yet it's easily accessible. Just make a hole in the back for the cord. And it's not built in so if it breaks we can just replace it. LOVE IT TOO!

I can't seem to get Clare's photo up, but we live in similar terrain, maybe 20-25 miles apart, so I definitely can visualize the scenario. When my cats Bonnie and Clyde (siblings) were younger (they're 7 now), they would hunt anything that moved, including numerous shrew moles (tiny black moles, about the size of a mouse). They soon learned that the shrew moles weren't as tasty as birds or squirrels (sorry, city dwellers, just the facts re: rural pets), so we'd see/clean up/bury the uneaten remains. But we also had another visitor, a true mole, which DH and I never saw, just their subsurface tunnels (thanks goodness, no gophers, so much more destructive to landscaping.) Anyway, the dynamic duo's prior training meant that the mole only resided a few weeks in our yard, never to be seen again. I don't know if they drove away or killed that mole, but it's gone, at least until spring. The cats are getting lazier now, so coming upon a recently deceased critter is much less frequent, although Clyde did decimate a Varied Thrush (closely related to Robin) last week. BTW: Because they are indoor/outdoor cats, we accept that they are candidates for the food chain -- we do what we can (getting them inside from dusk til daylight), fencing our huge yard against predetors, etc. But we do have coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, owls, and raccoons in the broad vicinity, so we accept that nature may turn the tables. However, I think there is balance in the quality of life that B & C are experiencing as both indoor lap warmers and outdoor mousers/critter-management agents. BTW: I asked a neighbor if he minded B & C hanging out under his house so frequently, and he said H_ll, no! They haven't had any rodents since they've been a frequent visitors (frequent mousers?). So, B & C are in some ways providing a much needed public service.

Yeah, I can imagine it does. I want a better telephoto, but with my hand arthritis, I'm not sure I could hold it! Mine's a 70-300 and I have trouble with it. But man.....your pics are great! It would be worth the pain. :)

I'm bringing this thread back, because I mistakenly called one of my favorite things "lemon coral sedum". It is actually called "[Sedum japonicum Tokyo Sun[(https://www.houzz.com/products/sedum-japonicum-tokyo-sun-stonecrop-prvw-vr~30937770)", although my nursery labeled it "De Oro". It is a bright chartreuse color and has a low mounding habit. Unfortunately, it's more tender than other sedums. It did fine when temps reached 27 degrees Fahrenheit in my garden, but is listed as only hardy to zone 8. It has shallow roots that pull out of the ground easily, so I don't consider it "walk-able", but it seems to recover when I accidentally step on it.

Beautiful compositions, especially the last shot of the butterfly. How did you train that bee to pose directly in the center of the flower? lol

Getting the bee centered was easy, i just stood there and patiently waited as the bee worked his way over the flower.

Now for the hawk shot, as Paul Harvey used to say, "Now here is the rest of the story"

Jan and I were visiting Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass and I had set up my camera on a tripod near the lilly pond in hope of getting some pictures of frogs,,,as I sat there I kept hearing a whistling sound coming from a backyard that adjoined the park. Finally out of curiosity I walked over to the fence to see what was making the whistling sound and what do you suppose I saw? A man was standing there blowing a whistle and there was the hawk on a perch about 40ft away. Suddenly the hawk took flight and landed on his arm.

Quickly I grabbed my camera and began taking some pics of the man with the hawk and after about 15 minutes the man walked over and talked to me.

He told me that he was training the hawk in the art of Falconry (hunting with a bird).

He told me that it takes 5 years to get a license to practice Falconry in our state, and during that time you have to catch a hawk or falcon in the wild and train it. He also said that there are only 7 people in the entire state of Massachusetts who are licensed to practice falconry so I feel pretty proud to have happened upon the opportunity to see that activity.

Here is a picture of Matt with his bird; Note the heavy leather glove on his left hand, That glove is three layers of horsehide and he says that bird can penetrate through that with his talons.

When I took the previous picture I was about 20ft from the bird but I did not venture any closer because that is still a wild bird and I did not want to antagonize it.

Kathi mdgd,

Putting your name or any text on the photo is easy.

Download the free photo editing program called "Photoscape" which is put out by Google.

Open the program and select the editor, then open a photo file to the editor workspace.

On the lower left side just below the photo you will see four tabs: HOME, OBJECT, CROP & TOOLS.

Hit the "OBJECT" tab and some icons will appear, hit the "T" and a window will appear for text. You select the font and color but down worry about selecting the size at this time.

Now type your desired text in the box and hit OK and it will appear on the photo. You can then click and drag the text to where you want it, rotate it to any angle you want and you can click on a corner of that text box to enlarge or reduce the text however you want. If you don't like the color or font style double click on the text box on the photo and the window appears to change your selection.

I have about 8 different photo editing programs, some that were free and a couple that cost hundreds of dollars, but I find Photoscape to the most user friendly yet powerful enough to do all but the serious demanding edits of professional software.

I teach a photography course at our local senior center and I encourage all the students to get photoscape as thier first program.

In fact all the editing in the photos I posted was done with Photoscape, including the reflection effect in the butterfly shot.

To get Photoscape just input the name in your browser homepage and it will take you to free download sites.

OH Yes, and did I mention, PHOTOSCAPE is absolutely free of spam, spyware or those annoying pop ups asking you to buy another program.
