Yes I wish the peonies are heat tolerant but until then I will stick to roses.

Wanted too thank everyone again for the lovely photos. Has been a joy looking up all of these plants. Weather or not they would grow here.

Grapes, strawberries and figs oh my! Actually all three can grow here. My space is already taken though. The figs are different of course but have heard they are quite tasty.

I have a small covered balcony off the living room in my condo where I grow fuchsias and supertunias.

That is so sweet of you to say, Carol. Never thought of adding fairies but after I posted I did notice a little plastic bunny peaking out near the hummingbird feeder. My son gave him to me many years ago. Once the bunny tried to escape but landed on the sidewalk four floors down. We brought him back up and he's never tried to escape again:)

What frilly abundance. Those petunias make a wonderful hideaway. You have to plant them again. I know they can be a little high maintenance, but it's worth it to get your results. Diane

There are a bunch of fragrant Iris varieties out there, all smelling very similar to grape juice- there's a white that reblooms called Immortality. Careful though, it wants to eat the world.

I would love to try a few fragrant irises. Would you be able to name a few more so that I can hunt them down? I haven't seen too many of them where I am.

I like this tiny lemon coral sedum. It's roots are shallow, so it doesn't choke surrounding plants. It takes the heat well and has managed to survive several freezing temps that have killed larger succulents. It brightens up the garden.

I think you are referring to the mint, another favorite thing. I'm always pulling it to keep it in control, but we constantly eat it too. Also in the photo is the beginning of Sedum Autum Joy, coming back from winter. It will get a lot taller by Autumn. I like how it looks like pink broccoli and goes well with my Annie Laurie McDowell rose, also nearby.

Thanks Jasmine. Your mint looks nice and healthy, but I have to grow mine in a pot otherwise it would take over the garden. I love Autumn Joy, from the beginning of its growth season when it looks like a bunch of green roses, to the end for its seed heads.

Sometimes I wish that I had chosen to grow my mint in a pot. It certainly gets around. Still love it though. I moved my Sedum Autumn Joy and it showed up again in its old spot. Now I have it in two places in my garden :-)

I grow my mint in pots also. Put it in the ground one time only. Can't say it's the worst invasive but it only tool one season too know perhaps I should move it quickly.

fragrancenutter, I was just reading of an iris Alcazar on a Heritage Irises it smells like rootbeer. It was one of the first tetraploid irises. Not my favorite color but interesting.

Jasmine, there seems to be many sedum that use the name lemon coral. Some are hardy some aren't. By any chance do you have any more information on your sedum. Off to check around some more.

No, sorry. I plan to buy some more at a cactus nursery. I'll see if they have the latin name.

There are some smaller varieties that have varigated white and green foliage and also yellow and green foliage. I grow, and like them both. The yellow gets a little taller. I dont have a pic, but I did a google search and here's a link to buy the yellow. Can't vouch for this nursery though, as I know nothing about them

Thanks Jasmine, usually the short sedum with thick leaves tend not too survive are wet winters here. Theres always a pot laying around too grow it in.

Saw this idea on Pinterest. Is that Oxalis? Not one of my favorite things, ha ha. But this looks like a cute idea for getting young kids to garden.

Patty- The iris don't like to have wet feet.

Patty, if your soil is too wet for bearded irises, try Siberian irises and Sibtosa hybrids. They are a recent passion of mine, from the last few years only. The flowers are smaller but the foliage is quite elegant after the flowers are over. I have gotten several new varieties from Tambergs in Berlin I hope to see in bloom this summer, all in shades of blue. But there are many other colors. The first flower of my newest iris:

I'm bringing this thread back, because I mistakenly called one of my favorite things "lemon coral sedum". It is actually called "[Sedum japonicum Tokyo Sun[(https://www.houzz.com/products/sedum-japonicum-tokyo-sun-stonecrop-prvw-vr~30937770)", although my nursery labeled it "De Oro". It is a bright chartreuse color and has a low mounding habit. Unfortunately, it's more tender than other sedums. It did fine when temps reached 27 degrees Fahrenheit in my garden, but is listed as only hardy to zone 8. It has shallow roots that pull out of the ground easily, so I don't consider it "walk-able", but it seems to recover when I accidentally step on it.

Thanks for bringing this thread back Jasmine. I must have missed it before. After reading this I realized that I need to fill my garden with other plants beside roses.

I found out my volunteer (above) is "dove weed" or "turkey mullein". These wonderful gray puffs are a California annual and I love it. So do turkeys and doves.

Sheila, I've never noticed it before, even though this video says it's common in Southern California: Dove Weed. I bet I notice it all over the place now that I know about it.

I love it, Jasminerose. It is so pretty. I hope you find it too. It grows in barren dry areas which apparently is/was my property. I makes a good groundcover under roses. It volunteered there.

Loved looking at these photos again. I always see something that I failed to notice the first time around. Great gardens.
