No help here, but I had to laugh at the title of your post.

I am sure help will be forthcoming from someone in this multi-talented group of people. Just not from me. My husband handles the grill hook ups. Sorry.

just read and follow the directions...we use a click stick starter on ours...(although we also have electric start) once you start using it, you'll love it.

Me too! DH uses the gas grill!
I *can* use the charcoal but prefer not to.
I leave grill cooking to DH I do all the inside cooking.

He can handle the outside!

I too am afraid to light gas grills.

Whenever my DH does it, I run for the house, which is what I did one Sunday afternoon when DH says "Let's have a BBQ." I'm sitting on the sofa in fetal position just waiting for the propane explosion I was certain would happen when all of a sudden there is a loud bang followed by my DH running into the house clutching his chest.

I uncurl and do a quick inventory ... ten fingers, ten toes, no burns or blood. So what was that explosion I heard, I ask. "There's a @!*%$! black snake in the grill." he gasps, and sure enough there was. The snakes ears were probably ringing from the bang the grill top made when DH dropped it.

Turned out to be the next door neighbor's escaped 5.5 foot black rat snake. Been missing a number of months. ... oh my.

Good luck on your endeavors, at least yours is new and not yet home to reptiles and the like. :-)

So, Jodi, what kind of wine did you have with the "roasted reptile"?

I've started and used them all my life, and not had any problems. Just read and follow the instructions and you will be fine. If it doesn't light the first time, just turn it off per the instructions, wait, and then try it again. You will soon get the hang of it and not fear it.

I grew up with gas cook stove burners often having to be lit with a match. I can read and follow the instructions to light the furnace, or a little gas heater I have.

Having lived alone for so long, I have managed to master quite a few things a lot of women would never think of trying to do themselves.

Congratulations on your assembly. That was harder than the actual lighting of it. You will be fine...just be sure your connections are as tight as they should be, without over tightening them.

Go for it! and come give us a report. You can do it and in time be comfortable with it.

One of the biggest things to remember. After you turn the gas/propane open, be ready immediately to to click the electronic starter. If you aren't, I suggest turn the propane tank off a minute and start again. The only times I ever got a big poof was being in slow to start. Now there sure would have been a really big poof if I ever opened the grill to a snake.

Jodi - I'm glad no one was near my desk! I had to laugh!!!! Still am when I think of it.....

I usually leave it to my husband to do the grill stuff...Once last summer the used my moms grill turned it on and had the top shut.(the one we have must be ventilated more)..so the gas built up inside before the he got it lit. Big POOF sound was heard from inside the house...he burned his eyebrows and one hand was a bit red...He was ok....don't have the lid down after turning on and lighting it...was kinda funny a few hours later (I didn't have to trim his eyebrows for a few months) but not when it happened.

No answers on how to assemble it or start it since we don't have one anymore. The last one had a big fireball around the top of the tank and Woody nearly blew my mom and me up as we were standing over it on the verandah. lol Seriously, it was too old and not safe, so we got rid of it and now we use charcoal when we grill, which is rare because charcoal isn't that convenient for us.

Marita, don't worry...follow directions. My DD and I put one together a few years ago, if you get your tank at Lowe's you may have to get it filled. I bought mine at Sam's club and took it over to our local U Haul store and had it filled for about 15 bucks. like everyone has said, be ready at the starter button or have your long lighther (i use a zippo) lighted BEFORE you turn the control to Light, the little flame on the dial. Having a DH and two sons, I've never had much chance to do the grilling (that's MAN'S cookin', ya know!) No, I get to do everything else while they sit out there and char the meat! lol I did grill some pork chops lately and they turned out great. Hopefully DH has learned that there is more than one setting (Low and Medium are ones he never used).

I will say, the electric start is probably the first thing to go out on a grill so I always have the long handled Aim & Flame handy to start our grill.

Jodi, I bet you about laughed yourself silly once you found out your DH wasn't blown up! That would be quite a surprise to find that snake in there! Whew Boy!!!

I have assembled one, and used one extensively. Never a problem.

Like others said, don't turn the gas on, till you are ready to light it.

Like Moni, I have assembled and used a gas grill and never had a problem. I always keep the gas turned off until I get ready to use it, because I don't want it to leak out.

I have used propane camp stoves and lanterns all the years I have camped. I remember one time a guy I was dating and I were on our way to the campground when we heard a hissing coming from the trunk of the car. DBF jumped out of the car and ran while I opened the trunk and turned the valve on the propane tank to shut it off. I have never let him live that down.

I'm a single woman who has always been courageous in doing many "guy" things myself -- I've restored several vintage homes, for example -- but for some reason I'm paralyzed at the moment thinking about hauling a propane tank home and lighting a gas grill I assembled myself. Plus now I have to worry about snakes in the grill! :) I actually bought this grill -- it is, by the way, really cute and small -- to use on my condo balcony. We don't have condo rules that forbid it, but it is also a condo of only three people, a big old house converted into units. I realized after I got it, however, that there is no way I'm going to use it on my second floor balcony -- far too close to the house for comfort. I may end up returning it, but I'll probably (briefly) feel like a wimp doing so. I'll just go back to the old familiar charcoal. . .

Add me to the list of those who are afraid of gas grills. One thing I really -- badly -- want to do is learn how to grill. I never have, and I love to cook!

I am afraid of them now, a couple of years ago, ours wouldnt light, i didnt wait long enough to try again apparently and when i did get it lit...it went poof! burning my arms, so i dont touch them now.
