Hi rjinga the plants look like they would be fine in those containers for another season.

Keep in mind that Peat Moss and Sphagnum Peat Moss are two different things. What you need is Sphagnum Peat Moss.

Blueberries like soil to remain damp but not soaking wet so you need a soil that drains well. They also like full sun. It would be unusual for your soil conditions to be acidic enough without being amended. They also like lots of organic matter. In most cases its good to work in sand to aid in drainage and well composted leaves for additional organic matter. Plus lots of Sphagnum Peat Moss and Cotton seed meal and granulated sulfur to aid in lowering the PH.

From the looks of your plants it looks like you know all of that though as they all look healthy though a somewhat pale. The next next time you water them add some fertilizer and 1 Tablespoon of White Vinegar per gallon to it and I bet they will green right up.

It would be better to leave them in pots for the next few months, since they have already flowered. The planting bed can be prepared, & the blueberries can be set out in the fall, between September 15 and October 15.

Thanks ericwi, that's exactly what I'll do, I do need to replenish the pine bark fines and I'll keep fertilizing (diluted) every month? I can also add in some composted material if that will be beneficial. some of the smaller containers I think I will also bump them up to larger ones, as it seems the smallest containers dry out very quickly.

FYI, I meant spahagnum peat moss, that's what I had used.

I wondered about something else, as you can see in the pictures, these pots are all right up next to one another, is there any reason that they should be further apart from each other? obviously they will be once planted in the ground, but for now does it matter at all? I am counting on getting berries from them this year, so I didn't want to inadvertantly do something that would hinder that process.

And ONCE AGAIN on the fertilizing thing, I've read other posts on here that people fertilize weekly.

Is there a minimum/max way of thinking out there? And does that depend on what the goal is for the plants? I sure would not mind them growing bigger, that will make them more appealing to sell. since I'm not going to plant 40 blueberry plants around my house, I'm going to have to continue to sell them.

And what about repotting some of the smaller pots?

One advantage to having the pots close together is shading the sides. I've read blueberries do not like having their roots hot. I have a similar bunch started that will stay the year in only slightly larger pots than those. They are in partial shade now but I am going to paint the pots white before going into full southern sun (similar to middle GA).

From the photos, your blueberries look to me to be about as big as they can be, given the size of the pots they are in. I would be fertilizing them once a month, enough to support the leaves and fruit, but not enough to support maximum growth. Our shrubs are all planted in the ground. Each shrub gets one tablespoon of plant food, dissolved in 4 gallons of cold tap water, in April, and again in May. They are heavily mulched with shredded tree leaves, and the leaves do break down over time, so there must be some extra nutrient from that source, as well.

can't bluberries be planted in containers rest of their life, given the size of the containers is sufficient??
